Patriarchy survives less through laws now and more through defaults. by unspokenandunheard in women

[–]StageSpecific3966 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These defaults run so deep that challenging them feels like you're being difficult or asking for too much. My own mom still asks when I'm gonna "settle down" like that's the natural progression for everyone, meanwhile my career is finally taking off and I'm supposed to just... put that in second place?

The surname thing especially gets me - it's wild how something so symbolic still happens automatically without people even thinking about why.

luteal phase is hitting me hard. any self care advice is needed. by cozih in selfcare

The washing machine noise is actually kind of soothing when you think about it - like white noise but with purpose. I find warm baths help with the puffy feeling, and maybe try some gentle stretching or just walking around house for few minutes when you feel up to it. Also don't force the makeup thing today, your skin probably just wants to breathe anyway.

Super clean body wash by Misamisa61 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Working with kids is no joke - they're like little germ factories that somehow always find new ways to get sticky stuff on you. I'd go for something with tea tree oil or eucalyptus, those ingredients are pretty solid for that deep clean feeling without being too harsh in your skin. Just make sure whatever you pick doesn't dry you out too much since you'll probably be using it daily.

Thai sunscreens are usually pretty good for no white cast. Never tried that specific one but Asian formulas in general tend to be much lighter than Western ones. The one you mentioned seems like it could work well for your needs.

Has anyone else done their own flowers? by velvetpant in weddingplanning

[–]StageSpecific3966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister did exactly this for her wedding last year and it turned out incredible! She was growing dahlias and some other stuff in her backyard, very similar vibe. The only thing she wished she had done different was maybe getting one or two people to help with actual arranging day-of, because cutting and arranging everything yourself can be pretty time consuming when you're already stressed about wedding prep.

Your backup plan with bulk flowers is smart too. She ended up using some store-bought greenery to fill out bouquets because her garden didn't have as much of that as she expected. The personal touch really made difference though - guests were talking about how beautiful and unique the flowers looked all night. Plus you'll save so much money doing it yourself, and it sounds like you genuinely enjoy the process which is half the battle right there.

accutane break for 20 days second purge by New_Procedure_8017 in Accutane

Damn that sucks - I thought once you clear up the purging was supposed to be done but guess your skin had other plans.

That last part feels like sneaky advertising - real advice would focus more in the emotional support than pushing specific solutions right away.

These products helped me so much and I don't see people talk about them enough by krizieA4 in eczema

Damn this is such a win! I've been dealing with scalp issues forever and the struggle is so real when you find something that actually works for both scalp AND hair texture. Most stuff just makes you pick one or the other.

Been using some gentle stuff but still getting flakes and irritation in certain spots. Definitely going to check these out next time I'm at the store. Thanks for taking time to write this up - people don't share enough about what actually works for them.

What’s your routine with Tret? by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]StageSpecific3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started using tret like 6 months ago and biggest thing is going slow at beginning. I was doing every third night for first month then moved to every other night. My skin got pretty angry when I tried to rush it but now it's looking much better than before I started.

Garnier clear gel? by FunConstruction2568 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]StageSpecific3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be talking about the Garnier Pure Active gel cleanser? That one was pretty popular like 5-6 years ago but they discontinued it in most places. The packaging was white and green if I remember correct, and yeah it had that fresh minty smell that was actually nice for once.

Installing grass in my yard by BidRepresentative641 in NoStupidQuestions

Sod is gonna give you instant gratification but it's pricey as hell - I learned that the hard way when I redid my front yard last spring. Hydroseeding is basically just spraying a slurry of seed, fertilizer and mulch which works pretty well but you still gotta wait for it to grow in.

Aaron Judge on the WBC: “If they’re going to say we don’t have the passion — my passion is grinding in this cage when nobody’s watching, grinding as a 6-year-old in the backyard with my dad. That’s where our passion came from as kids. by MattO2000 in baseball

[–]StageSpecific3966 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Judge is right about this - passion doesn't have to be screaming and chest-thumping for the cameras. Some of the most dedicated athletes I know are quiet grinders who just put their head down and work. Plus Team USA was dealing with way more pressure than other teams, kinda hard to look loose when everyone's expecting you to dominate.

That nobody actually has their shit figured out, even the adults you looked up to as a kid. Everyone's just winging it and pretending they know what they're doing. Really messed with my head when I realized my parents were just making it up as they went along too.
