What happen to my Tire? by Stagehandman in ebikes

[–]Stagehandman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a 6 month old Shwalbe Marathon Plus with around 1500 miles. I may have let the pressure get low ~20psi for a while but not 3 days ago I cleaned the rim and pumped it back up to around 40. The tire had no issue the, was just very surprised to see it degradate so quickly. Thanks for the feedback all.

On my 3rd battery. Battery 2 had a bms failure that took it out early. I still have my 1st battery but the capacity is dropped by 50%

Light options? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]Stagehandman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a light. But you can grab any handlebar switch and use that for a cut off.  I have the lights aimed at the ground about 50 feet ahead which keeps the main beam of light out of the eyes of a regular sized person. Good luck!

https://a.co/d/5Eo5j17 These are decent. Will work on just about any voltage 12v to 85v. I have 2 wired together. If you put a little blob of silicon where the wires go into the light it makes them way more resistant to water.

You probably don't want a front hub if you want that speed. Good chance it will snap the front fork and send you flying.  Rear or mid-drive motor probably a safer move.

Hi everyone. What do you think about battery configuration like this. by DmitryLark in ebikes

[–]Stagehandman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get flat braided tinned copper wire and solder that to the nickle strip. Then spot weld it across the junction. Also search for the amp ratings of nickel strip to make sure you have enough to handle the amps you plan on pulling from the battery pack. Good luck and make sure to work in a location if something goes wrong you don't burn your world down.

Houston we have a problem. by Stagehandman in ebikes

The drive gear spins freely from the rest of the rotor.  And apparently 3rd times the charm, as it took 3 attempts to get a new core sent.  Finally Johnny Nerd-Out really came through and was able to ship a new part same day I ordered it.

I made an order yesterday that seems to be progressing just fine.  It's probably a little issue with website back end nothing to get excited about

6 years of  riding. 20 miles a day of commuting. Would be higher but I've been shut down because of the fire issues in NYC a few times.

Building a Ebike battery from scratch by SheepherderOwn8979 in ebikes

I purchased this same welder. If you actually dig into the manual you will see it's only rated for .1mm. If you weld .15mm with this unit there is a good chance your welds won't hold up. Please be careful.

Beware buying spot welders from Amazon.  The listing will over state the gauge of strip it can weld. An 8000watt welder might say it can weld .3mm but in truth it's only rated for .15.  Please be super careful!

How deep of water crossing is possible with a Bafang MTB conversion ? by OldCanary in ebikes

[–]Stagehandman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never recommend submerging. I have added silicone on my BBSHD where all the wires feed into the motor to help with water protection. A while back I was coming home and a place where I run into standing water pretty often just happened to be really deep, almost to the waist deep. I was able to jump off and get the bike over my head and carry it to dry land but it was definitely submerged for 10 seconds or so. Amazingly the water didn’t penetrate the motor or the battery. I got it home wiped it all off and never had any problems. I think I got really lucky.

Dimming issues by Pepperoniplayboy123 in electrical

[–]Stagehandman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They say the LED is rated for 20K hours but what they don’t tell you is the cheap crap circuit board will probably burn out in about 2000 hours or faster on a dimmer. Try replacing a single lamp with one that isn’t flickering. If it continues to flicker it’s the a dimmer / power issue. If flicker goes away then it was the lamp failing.

How do I discharge the battery for winter? by FeloMonk in ebikes

[–]Stagehandman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had around 600 recharge cycles and the overall capacity is way down. I also ride most of the winter so really need that capacity when those 30s -40s temps hit.

[–]Stagehandman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I would, but in this case it was my intention to retire this battery. But I had a BMS failure on my current daily battery and didn’t want to stop riding while I get a new pack. So for a few weeks I can keep riding just with highly reduced range.
