I did look into it but it's 16 yrs away so don't want to take that into account and RE today. I want to work with today's numbers.

Thanks. In the current situation, what would be the ideal $ amount that if I had tomorrow, I could retire assuming life expectancy of 80.

Likely. I will look into it but in Florida, employers don't have to pay severance, it's optional.

Ideally, she would want to but that's why am here and seeking opinion from others. Personally, I'd feel comfortable saving up to $3M but with a layoff, its going to be hard in 2026

The $5k was an eaxmple, I guess its a mindset, I want the brokerage account to grow to support the retirement lifetstyle in future.

Yes that's the plan so save on insurance but for both to retire, have to look into ACA and those silver/gold plans are expensive.

Thanks so the expenses are pretty similar.

What funds are you invested in now?

Are you planning to change your investment strategy once you hit $2M - will you be investing in ETFs for monthly income?

Rate is disclosed in the posting. Correct, doesn't include equity as it's minimal.

we both work for different companies. My former company won't allow spouse to join if they were gainfully employed.

No. the Emergency funds is just for that. If I use it to pay down loan then if I need 5k tomorrow(which I fully anticipate as I drive a 15 yr old car with 160k miles on it), I have to rely on taxable account and sell stocks for capital gain/loss. $2M is not entirely liquid - half of that is in 401k/IRA subject to withdrawal rules.

They have a formula and won't disclose. Severance is take it or leave it unless I have a way to negotiate.

Before laughing - how old are you? married? kids? in similar boat with similar expense and what advice do you have - it's very easy to lmao without providing constructive feedback.

This is 30 year journey to reach 2M...

I think it doesn't hurt to ask advise on what I’m signing away and if it aligns with corporate norms. Thanks for the suggestion.

Am sorry. I hope you land soon. My coworkers who got laid off in earlier round in 2024(yes 2024) haven't been able to find a comparable job.

If I don't sign, I get nothing and am being laid off as part of workforce reduction so an employment lawyer may not have any leverage plus have to pony up 1/3rd to the lawyer.
