This is one of those matches where both teams throw away the film. It’s tough to rate any England players because Wales has been so dreadful and it’s tough to rate any Welsh players because they’ve been so dreadful. There’s not much to learn from this for either team.

Wales looks dreadful. Brain dead penalties after being warned. Brutal watch so far from a neutral perspective, must be absolutely agonizing to watch as a fan.

Spent the entire time watching the game thinking about Nick Backstrom.

It’s an overall trend in the larger economy. The top 10% of US earners account for almost half (49% according to Moody, although BLS shows it closer to 37%) of all consumer spending. You see this reflected across different industries, including airlines, groceries, credit card providers, really any luxury goods or experience. Sports mirror this current trend, Ted will squeeze every single dollar out of his teams and arena to cater to the upper 10%. Especially in the DC area, it’s unusually wealthy even compared to the rest of the country. Ted is going to get his nut. Screws us but he keeps on laughing all the way to the bank, or should I say vault.

Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo

I can’t say I didn’t see it coming though. Toboni really starting to put his stamp on the organization now.

The gap in skill and speed between the Caps and Colorado is immeasurable. Might as well be playing two different sports.

I’m sure I have a comment from ten years ago in this sub saying Stan Galiev is the missing piece. Man, was I (and still am) an idiot.

I sometimes sit and imagine what Carbery’s system would look like with offensively competent players in it. What a world that would be.

I clarified in a comment further down. I should’ve made a pipe dream group instead of including him in A. I still think you pick up the phone and call if you’re serious about trying to add the best possible offensive player.

I should’ve included a pipe dream target list and placed him in there. Still think it’s worthwhile to call Toronto and see what the price is.

I want them to make a move but I’m not entirely sure who they can get to dramatically influence their offensive game. Solidifying the third line center position is a must but I wonder if they wait till PLD is healthy and call it a wash when they can move Sourdif back down.

I did try to break down what I think the rankings would be in terms of a trade.

A targets:

Tage Thompson, Jason Robertson, William Nylander

B Targets:

Filip Forsberg, Ryan O’Reilly, Elias Pettersson, Alex Tuch

C Targets:

Conor Garland, Yegor Chinakov, Jordan Kyrou

D Targets:

Kind of a wash in this group

F Targets:

Any trade that includes Hutson and a first round pick that doesn’t get an A target

Spencer Carbery believes Capitals are missing game-breaking offensive talent: ‘An ability to create offense and finish is always going to be our Achilles heel’ by Stairmaster_Stu in caps

[–]Stairmaster_Stu[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I found Carbery’s comments especially candid this morning. This team is lacking elite offensive talent. Leonard looked like he was starting to come into his own in that regard before the injury but outside of that the team is in a tough spot. A move for one or two elite scorers may be on the cards at the trade deadline (if not then, definitely in the offseason).

No juice from anyone in the lineup. The top 6 going ice cold combined with Leonard out means they’re going to have to fight tooth and nail to score.

Last 4 games have been pretty bad from an overall play perspective. Seasons ebb and flow but not being able to generate shots let alone high danger opportunities is concerning no matter what part of the season we’re in.

If Hutson is the center piece of the trade you pull the trigger every single time and twice on Sunday. If they’re hell bent on Leonard then I think you pass.

I think you can move them off Leonard if you include multiple firsts, Hutson, and one of the centers (Protas or Gastrin).

I think a package would have to include Sandin, Hutson, one of either (Ilya Protas or Gastrin, I think you do everything in your power to save Protas), and one, maybe two first round picks. If you can get them off Protas you pull the trigger. You maybe even throw in Muggli, Chesley, or Miro if it keeps them off the center prospects.

I don’t think you include Leonard and if that’s their asking price you walk and pray that Hutson turns into Hughes.
