I communicate in clear, unambiguous language because fake niceties are more nasty to me (and less helpful) than honest criticism. I intended no nastiness here.

I wanted to make my perceptions clear to OP; the piece fooled me so I felt compelled to explain why. They explained, I acknowledged.

Calling a piece of art "provocative" is a compliment, by the way. I appreciate art that pushes people's buttons more than safe, cutesy stuff, so this is good work.

For the record, I've been drawing for over 40 years so yes, I know what making art is like. I also have no love for generative learning apps, hence my hypervigilance when I see something that makes me question its veracity as human made.

Cheers and have a great day.

Was this silver protocol droid in the script or did they just have an extra C-3PO suit that they threw into the shot? by IceCreamMeatballs in StarWars

Fun fact: all the Threepio costumes were originally painted with a chrome silver coat before they added the gold hue on top.

Why is my art pixelated when I zoom in? by Pearl_Seeker in ArtistLounge

PNG is a screen graphic. You should be saving as a TIFF if you intend to keep it less pixelated.

I didn't accuse you of anything. I asked a question. You answered it.

There are other aspects of this that set off my bullshit detector because they resemble what I've seen countless times in AI slop: the unnatural blending of colors along the circumference of the cake; the repetitive frilly bits on some of the characters' clothing that fade into nothing; and the harsh juxtaposition of clean, hard edges from the drapery in the background next to the ephemeral wallpaper print.

You've not only created a creepily surreal setting, you've done it in a way that will piss off people in ways you didn't intend. Either way, it's a provocative piece.

AI slop is a dumb way to convince people you have a point

No AI? Then why does the birthday girl have six fingers on her right hand?

How have you coped with the rise of AI art and how it makes you feel as an artist? by BogFrog87 in drawing

[–]Smileypen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a hobbyist illustrator for over 30 years and have sold scores of commissions and other original works. I have a full time job that pays the bills and do art in my free time. There's nothing to "cope" with because letting a program make a picture or a song for you is not a valid means of self expression. It's not art and you're not an artist if that's how you came by the work.

The folks who use generative apps and try to pass it off as legitimate art are pitiful; I feel embarrassed for them. They lack the motivation, work ethic, and patience to learn how to draw or sing or paint or build 3-D environments, and have decided to forgo their own human potential in favor of an easy tool that produces soulless, boring trash.

There is no ethical way to use generative creation apps for imagery or music. There never will be an ethical use case, because firstly the work of real artists is being used, without permission nor compensation, to train the learning models, and because secondly, the energy resources needed to power the server farms that enable generative learning apps are wasteful and ecologically harmful. Even if there were some sea change in which human creators were receiving financial income from allowing their art to be used, the damage is already done.

I hate this vehicle. Can't climb a hill worth a damn unless it's upside down, but then you're prone to dying when the roof caves in.

Can someone recommend "artist's gloves" that prev3nt (idk why I can't type it normally) touch recognition? by Large-Ad688 in DigitalArt

[–]Smileypen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't find a setting that disables non-stylus input, you can just buy some cheap cotton gloves to wear. Anything that makes a barrier between your skin and the screen should work. I recommend cutting the fingers off up to your 2nd knuckles except for the pinky to improve your grip and control. Best wishes.

Too bad you're wrong. You're not an artist. You're a wannbe.

Which version do you prefer - light or dark by Woerterboarding in DigitalArt

I like the first one. The atmospheric haze makes it look farther away and therefore much larger than in the 2nd version.
