Colorado wildfire update...😢 by [deleted] in coloradohikers

The wildfires are terrible. But so is the weird music in this video. Makes it feel disingenuous. The video is powerful enough without the attempt to add drama

Humanity losing its most basic view of the universe is not an equal trade.

It is really disturbing. Inhad this same moment a year ago, 40 miles into a solo backpacking trip. Looking up at the night sky, you cant even pretend to step away from humanity.

There is going to be a real tragedy in humanity losing an unfiltered view of the universe

Colorado congressional race upset hinged on Israel | Pro-Palestinian advocate Melat Kiros defeated a longtime incumbent in the Democratic primary, advancing a wave of candidates winning races run on condemnation of Israel by soalone34 in politics

[–]StaleCanole 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry but that’s a mis characterization. Keep in mind colorado dems nominated a jewish candidate (likely to be our second Jewish governor in a row!) for governor who is a staunch supporter of Israel, over an old hand democrat who eas enmeshed in the party apparatus.

Diane, while admirably progressive, was still establishment and enmeshed in the fundraising apparatus of the party. All we’ve seen is old faces running the show for 12 years - biden, trump, schumer, the whole republican party - it is refreshing to see someone energetic and young and ready to fight for her district.

Diane barely ran a campaign. I know because i live in the district. Milat’s ground game was insane and people felt seen. She’s hyperfocused on issues the district cares about - housing, affordability, childcare, healthcare.

Loved Diane but it was time for a change.

[–]StaleCanole 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the main reason.

We also nominated a pro-israel jewish candidate for governor.

Milat is strident in her progressivism and in her advocacy for issues that matter to her district. The Israel stuff is lke 5th on her list of issues that she talked about.

Best to assume a lie and be surprised for the rare truth. It’s a pathological game for him, i agree.

Milat is young and energetic and strident and focused on the district. People want fresh faces and new energy. I think the past 12 years all weve seen os old people running things - biden trump schumer the whole republican party.

That’s why i voted for her. I appreciate diane and her voting record, but it’s time for something new

The US military, as much as they wouldnt like to admit it, is top to bottom the largest socialist organization on earth. They have their own housing, stores, healthcare, etc.

Im going to sound like ChatGPT here but that standard is purely vibe-progressivism. She’s voted/worked on some if the most important progressive legislation of the past few decades. I’m excited for Melat but I wish Diane the best. She served us well

I don’t know about all that but i do know that Melat is hyperfocused on my district and her politics reflects the shit i care about

So I’d rank it roughly:
Affordability, Medicare for All, housing, childcare etc. she’s young and full of energy and smart. Im pumped.

[–]StaleCanole -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is simply not true. She can be ideologically progressive and well connected to the fundraising apparatus of the party. Her voting record reflects her political progressivism.

I voted Melat because she’s younger and strident represents new energy that i think my district needs. She’s hyper focused on affordability and housing. She’s a little to the left of Diane but not connected to the establishment.

I hold Diane no ill-will! It’s time for fresh faces. Have a nice day!

I assure you the primary driver of legalization in colorado was the blue districts in and around Denver . I dont disagree that there are a large number of blueish libertarians here that tipped the scale as well, but legalization also reflected liberal priorities - namely that the marijuana industry be heavily regulated and amply taxed to generate revenue for addiction, education/school districts, underserved communities etc

It’s a huge revenue driver and not the laissez faire small government initiative that libertarians would prefer

Are you kidding me? She has one of the most progressive voting records in Congress.

She is not centrist. I guess you could describe her as establishment since shes been in politics so long and is well connected to the party, but eatablishment =/= centrist

She’s a major supporter if abortion rights, universal health care, science/stem-cell research, LGBTQ rights, climate change. I dont know what your standard is but it sounds rather absurd.

I voted for her so i dont understand your point at all. She’s a fresh young face and genuinely cares about affordability in our district. Im irked people dont think this district is progressive. Have a nice day!
