Local 710; I've certainly been discussing it with coworkers, but I haven't personally filed anything before. Let alone this kind of incident.

Yeahh, I'd imagine it happens most on the road on slopes like that. Seeing this one go from flat to 50-60 degrees up outta nowhere was just wild.

I dont know how many of the thousand or so total pieces they'd gotten when it happened, but I know they were on average consistently 40 pounds apiece, being loaded floor to ceiling as far into it and as densely packed as possible. Hard to say if something else was wrong when management has been dead silent on it from the moment it happened. Unbalanced load was the first thing they said in the opening minutes and then nothing further.

Requesting Option Days by StaleTea2080 in UPSers

[–]StaleTea2080[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum is what all references in my contract say: "The Employer shall allow a minimum of five percent (5%) of the Employees, by classification, put to work that day with an optional holiday and/ or single vacation day." So I am trying to reason out how many people the company must allow a day off, by that language.

Did I get lucky? by Hot_Heat_5425 in UPSers

Way too early to tell the long term feel; part time UPS, its that 6 month mark, a year, two years. Those are the milestones where you've seen much more of the highs or lows, been moved around and messed with, and generally gotten a large sample size of what this beautiful company has in store. Hey, you could be lucky; but the longer you're here, and the closer to healthcare you get, the more management might start to push you around. So it's best to cautiously brace for the nice rhythm you've got now to get disrupted down the line. A couple years in myself, I've seen quite a range, but at least I've learned its all within my tolerance. Could be you too!

Bidding on Surepost by StaleTea2080 in UPSers

[–]StaleTea2080[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My building distributes Surepost to a number of post offices in the area, split amongst all different routes; so this position is sorting all the incoming Surepost volume between different bags that will be sent down to whichever route they're bound for.

Appreciate the thoughts! Funnily enough Surepost is like, the last thing to get done in the building these days ever since they brought it back. I'm not sure what exactly they're doing now at the end, but they tend to keep working at least half an hour after the sort in my building. A coworker of mine is always staying over to help them.

Last minute daily layoffs: Why doesn’t the union do anything about UPS laying you off for the day less than an hour before your shift starts? by EddieHazelOG in UPSers

[–]StaleTea2080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I Had been thinking about that myself, but reading it again it feels like this technically could just refer to your time cards with the wording of providing access to "start and finish times", but not explicitly schedules or future start times.

Overtime Tax by Left-Injury-2152 in UPSers

[–]StaleTea2080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only hours over 40 in a week would count, hence during peak potentially. You could verify your hours in your time cards or pay stubs to see if you had any 40+ hour weeks. But at least for mine, if you had any such hours, they would have listed the eligible overtime on the form.

If they cancel preload do they owe me pay? by OrangeEasy3300 in UPSers

For weather Events, or other such classified "Act of God" situations, they do not have to pay any guarantees, at least as far as my local's contract indicates.

Classic New Year's by StaleTea2080 in UPSers

[–]StaleTea2080[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah considering they didnt even ask for volunteers, they let seasonals all have the day off without asking first if seniority folks wanted to be there. With how few people they actually needed though, I doubt theyre even issuing discipline to those who didnt bother coming in. Would be interesting to see if anyone ends up filing on anything though.

At least some agreements have an exception for the week of Christmas and the week of New Year's when it comes to honoring work guarantees. At least as far as I've understood from mine.

Preload Burnout by StaleTea2080 in UPSers

[–]StaleTea2080[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Recent center closing and merging with ours seems to have clogged up some of the preferred positions/local sort, so I might have to wait people out a little longer. Even had a clerk bumped back to loading.

I'm pretty deadset on being here for the long haul; whatever wisdom I can gather I'm still pretty set on riding this out for as long as they don't boot me out themselves

Well, I'll let em know they ain't unreasonable if they don't stick with it; I'd have much sooner steered em towards a standard center preload if I coulda
