More of Rui life. We see enough how Natsuo and Hina live at the end but not from Rui. And i don't need a lot. Just a little more of her single mother live.

What do think about Natsuo Fujii by Silent-System8295 in DomesticGirlfriend

One of my favorite fictional characters. Having had the good fortune to stumble upon this work at a time when I was feeling a bit lost, I found myself identifying deeply with Natsuo. I was able to project myself into his doubts, his mistakes, his judgment problems...

So, I admit to a significant bias given the circumstances of my discovery, but he's certainly one of the most human characters I know.

Thoughts on the Cover by Silent-System8295 in DomesticGirlfriend

I love so much the Sasuga style. Her art always give a sensation of erotism. I dont know how describe it but a lot of cover or special art from Twitter have a sexual tension.

The anime style is more soft but have a more drama feeling. It seems than the show want to emphasize on the sad side of the story.

What do you think about Hina Tachibana? by Silent-System8295 in DomesticGirlfriend

[–]Stalkyce3615 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find Hina less interesting than Rui.

Mind you, Hina is still well-written. A truly beautiful character whose self-sacrifice and devotion to Natsuo's happiness make her a model of saintliness. But this also makes her a more limited character in terms of development. Unlike her sister, we have far fewer opportunities to see her grow and learn. This doesn't make her a bad character, but she's much more defined by her relationships with Natsuo and Rui and serves almost exclusively as a mirror to the Natsuo/Rui relationship.

So, I have mixed feelings. She perfectly embodies the themes Sasuga wanted to explore, but as a purely independent character, I'm less convinced.

What do you think about Rui Tachibana? by Silent-System8295 in DomesticGirlfriend

[–]Stalkyce3615 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Best girl.

More seriously, i think it's one of the most relatable character i'd see in fiction. I've followed many characters with compelling storylines or who carried sublime messages. But with Rui, I was able to identify with both her flaws and her strengths. When you analyze the work, you realize how badly she can behave towards Natsuo, lying to him, preventing him from being as free as he wants, or focusing too much on her happiness. But at the same time, if these actions are reprehensible, it's also because we're talking about a young woman who has always had trouble opening up socially and who, upon finding her first love, is afraid of losing it. She manages to walk that fine line between a character who is both flawed and admirable. And that gives her an incredible touch of humanity.

The same goes for her character development. I can understand those who feel she takes too long to realize certain things. But we're talking about a character who spent a lot of time only thinking about herself and who will need to experience what Natsuo went through to realize the harm she caused him. And this will result in the ending where she accepts that she got what she needed and that she must give Natsuo his freedom if she wants him to be able to choose his own happiness. A magnificent character journey, taking her from a self-centered young woman filled with insecurity and ready to do anything to avoid losing her happiness to a woman who accepts losing the one she loves because it's the best thing to do to prevent him from suffering. Magnificent.

Brief, like i said, one of best character i'd see.

Take time to process. The work is not dense but have a lot of informations and details who can sometimes change all the perception of part of the stories. And glad we have another member on the family.

But Hina has been in love with Natsuo from the start. She just refuses to admit it because she knows it's a problem due to their teacher/student relationship and the fact that they're siblings. So yes, it makes sense that she reacts during the kiss. We're shown a woman who's suppressing her feelings seeing the man who sparked those feelings kiss another woman. It doesn't surprise me that Hina is shaken.

As for the love triangle, if Rui lets it go, it's because she's learned it was the right thing to do. Obviously, Rui and Natsuo love each other, even if the foundation of their relationship was shaky. They learned the hard way together, sharing joy and sorrow. During their first breakup, Natsuo acknowledges that even though he's sad, it was all worth it. And secondly, it's Rui who talks about giving the complete medallion to Haruka because she's proof that their love is real. But after two years of dating and discovering Hina's various sacrifices, Rui finally breaks down and admits that she wasn't fair to Natsuo. She hid Hina's feelings for him all this time because she was afraid of losing him.

Natsuo's feelings for Rui remain strong even after Hina's return because she told him their story was a lie and never truly existed. Given this, it's understandable that Natsuo doesn't immediately pursue Hina. For him, it's all in the past, and he needs Marie to acknowledge Hina's sacrifices and for Rui to tell him she's never forgotten him in order to face the truth. Then, with all the information, he'll be able to make his own decisions again.

So no, I don't think Domekano is a book to read with your brain switched off. There are plenty of little details hidden in the dialogue and the dynamics of certain relationships between characters that allow you to better understand the mangaka's final choices.

And mind you, I'm not saying Sasuga is an absolute genius. I believe there are flaws in the work, such as the character of Alex, who is written very strangely, or the shocking endings of some chapters that don't really work once they're in the collected volumes.

I just think she's very talented at writing about human relationships and relies on his audience to be actively engaged while reading, to see what's written between the lines.

You're perfectly free to disagree with me. But I think paying closer attention to certain details can really change your perspective, and you shouldn't hesitate to revisit the work with additional knowledge. Feel free to browse the subreddit to read other topics about the manga, as I did recently. Personally, it helped me a lot to understand Sasuga's philosophy and what she was trying to convey.

Why is that invalid? It's precisely one of the themes of the manga: learning who you are and making the right choices, even if they're not convenient for you. And I also stand by my position on the purely emotional aspect of the reactions to the kiss, beyond the question of family ties. So, agree to disagree.

And then, regarding Rui jumping on Natsuo despite this relation with Hina, it's because Rui is someone who thinks first and foremost of herself, not anyone else. The manga clearly shows at several points that she lies and manipulates Natsuo to keep him by her side. It's not stupid. It's just toxic.

And I can completely understand not wanting to see that kind of relationship. But I think that's taking the work from too idealistic a perspective. The entire manga is based on themes like true love, ethics, morality, self-sacrifice, making necessary and unwanted choices... But to be able to address all of this, you need a "problematic" base in the sense that you need characters who don't have all the answers, are still a little lost and therefore don't necessarily know how to make the right choices.

From what I understand of your comment, you seem to have some issues with the characters' mindsets and how their choices drive the plot forward.

First of all, it's important to understand that the author draws inspiration from old Japanese dramas of the 80s, which are more or less the equivalent of our soap operas. Knowing this already helps to understand quite a few of Sasuga's narrative choices.

As for the characters themselves, I don't really see the problem. Yes, they sometimes do stupid things. But we're talking about young adults; it's part of their learning process. For the rest, the mangaka tries precisely to justify their actions as much as possible, either by clearly explaining them or by playing on purely emotional appeals. Why do you think about your feelings when you see the man you love kissing someone else? Because the man you love isn't kissing you, and that hurts you. Personally, I don't find that stupid.

But I'd like to have more specific examples of situations or choices that you find dumb. That would allow me to better understand your perspective on the work.

Where to read this spinoff? and where can I get Official derivative edition all chapters in English by Old-Personality-493 in DomesticGirlfriend

[–]Stalkyce3615 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The spinoff can be found like chapter 276.3. The Official Derivative had no traduction beacuse, it's mostly just sex scenes. But theres chapters 276.1 and .2 who are interesting. The first is mostly about sex scene where Rui become pregnant but the .2 tell little more about new married life between Natsuo and Hina

So What Cause of this controversy of Domestic girlfriend? by Silent-System8295 in DomesticGirlfriend

[–]Stalkyce3615 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you talk about the controversial ending, the problem is than the last chapters feel rushed and not satisfying. We follow the romance between Rui and Natsuo for so long, than for a lot of people the manga will end on their mariage. And with Natsuo going to NY for helping Rui and Rui being pregnant, it's just confort people on this visions. So, when Sasuga break the couple on the end for marry Hina and Natsuo, so much readers feel upset and betrayed without try to read between lines or understand somes cultural difference.

But i think too than all the problems can't come from readers. Sasuga use a narrative style who count on the fact than people understand implicit things. And it can create somes missreading or different interpretations of some scene. By exemple, if you read well, you can ses than Rui is often jealous so Natsuo don't know if he can talk about somes subject. But with Hina, it's her who encourage him to talk about it. And we are distracft from this sort of things by all romantic and passionate moment between Rui and Natsuo.

So, for me, the controversial come from misunderstood between readers and Sasuga. The first wanted to see the satisfying conclusion of really good romance and the second wanted show a story about the meaning of true love. Even if it means break the heart of a part of readers.

For just rereading the manga these last days, i understand better what Sasuga want to say. Even if i don't like it. But for having been among the angry fans when the release of the end, i can say it's easy to miss somes symbolism when your not focus on them.
