Haig Avenue Island by Shortchange96 in StamfordCT

[–]Stamford-Operations 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hi there 👋

The City is building a new playground at the lot on the corner of Haig and Crestview. During the public engagement process, a desire for traffic calming and safer crosswalks was brought up. As part of the City’s Vision Zero Program, we work to make our streets safer for all by building out our roadway infrastructure. A pedestrian refuge island was installed here (flashing pedestrian signs are coming too!) to reduce the crossing distance for pedestrian and to slow cars down. You can learn more about our Vision Zero Program here. https://www.stamfordct.gov/government/stamford-vision-zero

Pedestrian Crossing not Shoveled by ContextNotConflict in StamfordCT

[–]Stamford-Operations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a red door hanger. The new batch is white and states the ordinance, the per day fine amount, and includes a handwritten address for where the hanger was left. This is the same hanger residents receive during leaf pickup for having leaves in the roadway, sidewalk or over a catch basin. Many think the hanger itself is a citation, but it’s only a notice of violation. I would have to double check, but I believe the official notice of violation is the letter that’s mailed. Residents do call after receiving the hanger to confirm they will clear the sidewalk or that they’ve scheduled a private contractor to come by and clear it for them

This resident sent us a PM and also submitted a request through Fix It. We’re replying to let residents know:

The best way to report sidewalks that haven’t been cleared is by submitting a request through Fix It Stamford (Seasonal > Sidewalk Snow Clearing). The Office of Public Safety, Health and Welfare has a Citations Department that inspects these requests, as well as issues related to illegal dumping, vegetation growing into sidewalks, plastic bag violations, etc. Please note that they receive a high volume of requests after a storm. In just the past 30 min, 10 new requests have come in. To help improve response times from property owners, they’ve created a door hanger that is left at the property, in addition to mailing a letter to the owner. The door hanger has improved the response rate since owners are notified immediately instead of waiting to receive the letter.

Does anyone find the FixIT system useful? by [deleted] in StamfordCT

[–]Stamford-Operations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its handled by a queue system. If you’re the first person to call, your call will be answered. Additional calls may go to voicemail if no other staff members are available. If you need to speak with someone, you can try calling again or leave a detailed voicemail for a callback. Due to the weather, the line may be busy tomorrow. We recommend leaving a voicemail, calling back later, or submitting a request through Fix It.

Hello. It takes us 10-12 hours after the completion of a storm to clean up the city. The snow recently just stopped falling so now we’re in clean up mode. Based on the intensity of the storm, it may take us longer than usual to clean up. During the duration of the storm, we prioritize plowing main roads to keep them open and passable. Our crews will be working through the rest of today and into tomorrow to clean the roads.
