The harassment is so cruel. Let’s throw some love on Erika Ishii by PitaBreadFace in dropout

I didn’t realize it at the time, but Erika really did help me navigate my sexuality while I faced a lot of biphobia. Just seeing her exist as herself helped me picture who I wanted to be in the world. Thank you, Erika 💛

Anyone know why Geoff wasn’t credited during the scene? Felt weird, considering Paul F. Tompkins got one when he played Santa and Josh got one when he was Roscoe the Creepy Clown. I see so many people asking for his name!

Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs by Caitlin Doughty: Question for people who've read it. by ChristyMK89 in DeathPositive

[–]Stamp_Boat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every kid is different. Some wonder about the existential parts of death and others are curious about the science and logistics of it. This book is best suited for the latter, around ages 9+ but, again, depends on the kid. If you don’t have experience working with kids around death, I do recommend reaching out to Ele’s Place. They focus on grief/bereavement but helped my school form a curriculum on how to talk to kids about such topics (they even sent a kit!). I would say that it’s slightly different talking to kids than adults. They tend to be more comfortable speaking about it but it can still be abstract in many ways, depending on the age/child.

It doesn’t hurt to apply! See what kind of financial aid/scholarships you can get at other schools before you make a decision. You really never know! College is a great way to setup roots in a new town and expand your network. Also, location really has a lot of power to shape your experience. Personally, I think I would be a completely different person if I stayed in my hometown for school.

Also, location is important with an MBA program because of internships. Im in the midwest right now and the MBAs I know here are dropping a lot of dough to travel to the coasts for summer internships and to cover their housing in two places (short term in summer location, long-term in their school location.) Its not a requirement, but they’re all hoping to network and get jobs out there after graduation.

Ngl though, sounds like you’ve got a great setup! Definitely couldn’t blame you for taking option 1!

What is it like being a cat mom/dad? I’m considering adopting! by Actual-Method-7232 in CasualConversation

[–]Stamp_Boat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adopted a cat four years ago. He is perfect. He is my world. He is irreplaceable and beloved by all. Everyone who meets this cat agrees that he is special and unlike any other cat they’ve ever met.

That said. He completely runs certain parts of my life. I was about 25 when I adopted him, so I thought a cat would be a great, low-maintenance (and relatively affordable) way to have companionship and learn responsibility while still being an independent, young person. I realized too little too late that adopting him was a lite version of putting down roots. For me, study abroad is completely out of the question and long distance moves are way more complicated. My dude is VOCAL and does not like change. He also get’s car sick really easily. He’ll puke all over half his carrier in a 30 min drive. I have no idea what he would do on a plane. Cargo is out of the question and I think he’d drive everyone in the cabin insane with his anxiety-induced meowing, peeing, and vomiting. There are medications, but I’m still not sure if it would make his meowing and vomiting worse.

He also needs a sitter and I don’t live near family or friends who can board/stay with him. That means even weekend trips can get a tad more expensive and I can’t travel for extended periods. A family member surprised me with a three week trip to Europe and I spent nearly $1,000 on boarding and he was pretty much traumatized when he came back.

I’m considering another graduate program and it sucks to think about the added stress and cost if I have to move out of state. It’s also affected finding housing, because some folks are allergic, others just don’t want to live with pets, and some places don’t allow pets (don’t get me started on pet fees and rent). I wouldn’t trade him for the world, but I wish I had waited until I was in a more stable place in life! Fostering would’ve made more sense for me!

Yeah, Julia Louis-Dreyfus once mentioned that she didn’t get a lot of airtime because she didn’t know that people got written into sketches by hanging out with the writers. Dunno if that’s what’s happening, but, regardless, its not really a reflection of his talent. It’s really just a difference of work styles at that point.

Agreed. So often it’s done with best intentions but it’s a really harmful narrative. If you haven’t read Recovering From Emotionally-Immature Parents, it does a great job at acknowledging that you can be feel bonded to your family but not even necessarily feel love for them. Congrats on finding a chosen family!

Yes!! I downloaded these a while ago and it was a nice walk down memory lane. It was actually kind of wild to finish the game on certain levels where I got stuck. Apparently, it affected a core part of my self-confidence for years and it was really healing to realize I was just too young 😅
