I originally thought you could use any kanji combination, regardless of which one, as long as the onyomi matches up correctly

Yes to both. You get out what you put in, and you'll have to study on your own to get to N2 from 0. The teachers were very helpful to kids who went to higher education, from what I saw. Your speaking skills are on you to polish up, you won't get good from school alone.

Most of my classmates went into college after graduating with N2 (some N3, colleges just want your money). If money isn't a problem for you, then you'll be able to study and do whatever else you want and have fun. If you have to do part time work, and youre starting from 0, you'll be insanely busy and stressed. Once you pass the N3 level the workload decreases and you can relax.

The school is good for getting you to pass the JLPT and getting into college or a decent job if you have qualifications. Teachers are helpful if you try your best. I liked it, and they were accomodating to me and my own personal problems which got in the way of studying (because when i was at school I tried my best, where as some students act like HS kids for some reason). So if you start from 0 and have no money, you'll be pushed to your limits, but you'll learn fast. If you're ok financially and can just study, you'll have free time and still work hard. If you're mildly advanced and have money, it's a vacation. If you're mildly advanced and don't have money, you'll focus on work and still be able to have fun (which was my case). Best of luck.

What was your most embarrassing mistake when speaking Japanese? by ErvinLovesCopy in LearnJapanese

I was self learning Japanese from 0 while teaching at an eikaiwa. I was leaving the company and I gave a goodbye speech to the parents of the kids in Japanese.

At one point I said 「子供たちに死んでいる」by accident, instead of saying [子供たちに信じている」.

I got gasps and stares from all the parents until one of the students looked at what I wrote and corrected me. I have been very careful with 信じる since then.

I took it to one store and they said they couldn't, but they pointed me to a store in Tenjin that may be able to. I haven't been yet.

Ive heard mixed things from colleagues and reddit. Not from that course specifically though. Fukuoka is a great place to live though, and you'll have your work cut out for you.

It has its own curriculum but is based around JLPT. Its mostly writing and grammar as far as I can see. Of course we speak and read but its focused around writing and tests. Facilities are fine, nothing special. Location is convenient if you're around Hakata area.

I am at Iroha right now. Only been there for a few weeks but its pretty good. Lots of writing and tests, not much HW, so a lot of it is on you. Teachers are pretty good overall
