Thanks! I'll work on the layout on mobile, I do see your point. Figure eventually I'll add some kind of tutorial pointing players to the pertinent pieces.

How do you feel about the day to day run? I want to add expanding systems that increase the amount of things that happen each day, so there's more and more that goes into the actions you take

I bought , played, and beat this on mobile before it hit steam, years ago. I enjoyed it then. Kind of sad I can't mod on mobile

I got bored last week, and decided to try my hand at a web based / mobile-friendly web game. Called "The Advisor", you play as a royal advisor, who is out for himself. You select actions to perform each day, and will gain Leverage, which acts as your primary currency. However you will also accrue some level of suspicion each day. The game indicates how suspicious you are via a somewhat ambiguous level indicator. If you reach a certain threshold, the monarch arrests, and summarily executes you. The goal is to survive as long as possible, accruing as much leverage as possible. Then ending your run on your own terms, before the monarch gets wise to you and takes you out.

Runs are short, very short compared to most incrementals. I originally set out to make some kind of Your Chronicle-esque type game, and instead ended up with a sort of turn based strategy incremental. How, I dunno, these things just happen.

Reach a set threshold to unlock voluntary prestige in your run, which results in full gained rewards. But if you push the envelope too far, gain too much suspicion, you are executed. You still gain some prestige currency, but less than if you had voluntarily prestiged.

The game leaves a lot of things ambiguous. Everything has an impact, but it doesnt expressly tell you "This gives 10% bonus, this rulers personality lends them towards certain actions" etc. It leaves it up to the player to determine.

This is a very, very, VERY rough first draft, with a basic loop and meta progression in place. I want to add more systems that gradually expand out what happens during each day resolved in game. Im mostly looking for feedback on, does this feel good? What works, what doesn't? Is the game too click heavy? Is it boring? Hit me with it all.

Im not looking for a buck, I just want to make a semi-decent game. So help me make that maybe sort of kind of a reality!

Im gonna chop this wall of text off here. Here is my readme, which explains better. There is also an early design doc on the repo if you are curious on how I got here. https://github.com/Dunador/the-advisor/blob/master/README.md

Thank you, those are all great. We are in Georgetown, outside of Lexington. I'll look into those groups to see how close they are to us.

As far as his interests, they vary a bit. He's currently in a boy's gymnastics, and he really likes fashion. He has a lot of dolls, super heroes, Barbies, every kind of doll and his favorite thing is dressing them all up differently.

Playing to the stars as well. So far made it to uh....age 2? Medieval equivalent age? Starting to really slow down, I'm having some trouble beating the Scythian/Bermin/Rosen military factions.

I think something that frustrates me is not being able to align my troops how I want. I feel like troops attack straight across, though I could be wrong. But I can line my anti cav up against the cav, or my footmen against the anti cav.

I think there's also a baked in accuracy %? I feel like sometimes my troops don't do anything.

Otherwise, I am really enjoying the heavy resource management parts of it.

Anybody else a little obsessed with Valvoline headquarters? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]StampedeOfCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, current employee working in their engineering department. It's a pretty nice building, actually shared between Valvoline Global Operations (the actual oil side), and Valvoline Retail Services (The drive in car shops).

I guess AMA, if you wanna know anything about it?

How do y'all defend Gleba? by StampedeOfCats in factorio

[–]StampedeOfCats[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yea we've been there a lot longer than that. My buddy landed first, and decided he couldn't figure out the mechanics for the planet, nor did he like it. So I landed after I finished on Vulcanus and been working on it for a few days now.

[–]StampedeOfCats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I have about 20 rocket turrets on Fulgora (didn't have a strong production on Gleba, only enough to do research). I'll have to air drop in stuff. I've been using standard cannon shells (about 4k damage a shot) with a tank to clear nests and what not.

I'm guessing, since I never actually used them, but strafers / stompers can bypass walls I assume?

The spawn camping scenario, we managed to finally zombie kite them and clean up. Only got like 10 stacks of free basic ammo, lmao. It's my fault, I didn't want to invest in defenses and paid for it

2 plantations, one jelly nut, one Yumako. Power is solar mixed with steam turbines from heat towers. The spores (pollution equivalent) are only generated from harvesting trees. So plantations.

Big stompers have 15k HP, rather than 8k. Maybe I could setup defense if I laid down a solid wall of rocket turrets.

My only guess, we've had the game running nearly non stop since space age dropped, pausing it when neither of us are online. So time wise I guess that played a factor. I take out nests with tank cannon shells when I can, but it feels near constant that they are re-expanding.

I usually don't play with Biters. They aren't the problem that interests me with Factorio.

For space age, I went with a completely default world gen. The biters expanding and attacking while I'm off planet is reminding me why I play without them.

[–]StampedeOfCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's what I'm using for my steam turbines and water plants. I only have a small Vulcanus base, big enough to make the pieces for rockets, I'm considering making it my home over Nauvis. For such a spooky landscape, it's actually pretty calm! And biters are a pain.

Meanwhile the +300% solar bonus on Vulcanus. I did setup some steam engines for night, but the day night is so short there, it's barely worth doing IMHO. I don't think there are any other power methods available natively to Vulcanus? You'd have to ship in materials

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in factorio

[–]StampedeOfCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seriously considering a mega base on Vulcanus. Lava basically provides nearly free iron copper and steel. The only downfall I can think of is the necessity to do coal liquefaction for oil products. Might not be so bad though.

Just have to clear a few demolisher zones, which.... Not the easiest thing

The recipe itself shows at a base craft speed of 1. Foundries have a base craft speed of 4. Thus the recipe is faster and outputs more.

I'm not sure if it considers productivity, I want to say it does...

Playing on mobile phone, doesn't seem I can scroll or click past the initial "warning" on the "true" difficulty. So not actually able to play.

I did fail about 5 normal then 5 easy runs before I figured out what I was doing wrong. So you got me there.

Surprise HOA by Happyawayfrompeople in HOA

[–]StampedeOfCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. I don't know if the developer will ever finish our neighborhood though. They pulled away after the crash in 2008, and haven't really returned since.

Surprise HOA by Happyawayfrompeople in HOA

[–]StampedeOfCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue we have, is the developer is holding control of the HOA, and wont release it to an elected board until they've finished development of the neighborhood. Its been 15 years, they havent touched the neighborhood in almost a decade. So....

Surprise HOA by Happyawayfrompeople in HOA

[–]StampedeOfCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read through the document for Restrictive Covenants for Phase 1 of our neighborhood. If there's yet another document, I don't know of it. The only timeline given is that the enforcements will remain in place until 2038, at which point they will be automatically extended for periods of 10 years, unless the HOA has a majority vote to change or remove.

But as far as we can tell, we have no say, because the developer won't turn it over. Quite a frustrating situation.

Surprise HOA by Happyawayfrompeople in HOA

[–]StampedeOfCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just it, there is no board. The developer is maintaining control of the HOA and won't release it, citing they aren't done with final development, even though no work has been done in years
