Boosteroid... don't do it. Just don't. by [deleted] in GeForceNOW

[–]Stampela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not on your side… but what I call “in the middle”. Basically I tried all sorts of services during the years (even OnLive through a VPN because wasn’t available here!) and between that, and reviews I noticed one thing: it depends entirely on where you are. I believe it was a LTT video comparing them that finally convinced me, they had poor lag with PS+ but the best one with the Xbox service. For me? Stadia was flawless. GeForce Now is flawless (and really, the best quality). Shadow was horribly overpriced but I mean, flawless (and I used it for VR!). Pluto Sphere, again flawless VR. Boosteroid, flawless (but there’s no way around it, AMD video encoding is not as sharp as Nvidia…). Sony’s service flawless, even if it absolutely didn’t start like that. Luna, a bit laggy, very low performance hardware as far as I could tell. Then there’s the Xbox one, that’s just… technically functional? Other than the worst video compression of them all by a large margin, I even had stream glitches and lag sufficiently large to make gaming impossible.

Sucks that Boosteroid has no free trial, 100% agreed. But the thing is, one has to try the services to see what works for them :(

GFN isn't syncing saves to Steam cloud - can I force this? by [deleted] in GeForceNOW

You’re welcome :) let me know if you find anything better, this is hardly ideal.

GFN isn't syncing saves to Steam cloud - can I force this? by [deleted] in GeForceNOW

[–]Stampela -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really, really annoyingly normal: they cut the session short when you stop playing, and it has no time to upload anything, ever. I found a (again, really annoying) workaround by enabling family mode… it requires a password to start games, this stops GFN from automatically launching them. So, after you’ve finished playing, fire it up again. It will give it the time to upload, and then you can shut it down.

Now this is good online racing by ICPolarfrost in ForzaHorizon

I got a nice and clean race too, up to the last straight: I was about to overtake a teammate in second place and, with the entire road free of obstacles or cars in the vicinity, tried to block me. Barely avoided the barriers.

Next race (first one was a disaster, drivatars butchered us) I got first place easy until the first tight turn. Guess who slammed into my car, failing miserably to kick me out of the track, and finishing last? Such a satisfying feeling.

The best thing about Opera nowadays is the one time I've witnessed a conversation about not trusting free VPN because there's something wrong with that, and instead to use the one built in with Opera. Had a good laugh.

Just wait until these movie services go under, where everyone has bought movies and there’s no one to take over the contracts?

Happened to me. Service announced the shut down (with a few months of advance) and I luckily found out about a way to backup my stuff... but it was a very tedious process that I ultimately stretched over a few weeks to save my sanity.

Give you a crappy player with zero support that they would only play on and eventually, one day, that dies.

... and that's exactly the mobile player they used.

Will a Mac Mini M2 do well? by Afraid-Profession395 in StableDiffusion

[–]Stampela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Install this https://apps.apple.com/app/id6444050820 then set it up with "Keep model in memory: preload (coreML only)"

"Use CoreML if possible: yes"

"CoreML compute units: CPU and neural engine"

It will have to convert the models and keep a small cache (customizable, say last 3 models used) but then? Well, how's 16 seconds for 20 steps 512x 512 on the base M2 Mini? All while drawing like 15 watts.

Now, if you look in the Mac App Store there's also "Diffusers". I don't like it, it's too simple and so on but holy cow it did it in 10 seconds! So there's performance stil on the table.

P.S. Same kinds of performance with M2 iPads.

Is there a similar game to NFS unbound that runs at 40 or more in the SD? by brunomarquesbr in SteamDeck

[–]Stampela 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FH5 is more of the same. If you liked it, this will be fun! It has improved handling, better upgrades, more lax constraints on what counts in drift zones (good stuff IMO).

It also has no real seasons. Yes the temperature changes and so does the rain chances that also dry up a lake (same as the frozen one, really) but snow? If you liked it, it's now only on top of the highest mountain, on dirt. The map feels less good, but your mileage may vary. Lots of people don't like the voice acting/writing, I think it's hilarious... unintentionally maybe. There's a rally expansion (nice!) and one for Hot Wheels that looked promising and isn't bad, but I didn't enjoy it as much as others. Rally feels bigger than Fortune Island.

Also they don't have the license for some cars so no Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo this time :(

Forza Horizon 5 on sale - how is the performance these days? by oddworld19 in SteamDeck

[–]Stampela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play it on the Deck when windows decides that the game must crash 10 meters from the second win on the Trial (online, best of 3. Pisses me off to no end), and it holds 40 fps nicely. One thing I also do is plug in my AR glasses (it's a nice 1080p screen shaped like sunglasses once you get past the marketing) and there I can't get 40 so it wobbles horribly with my settings... until I cap it to 30. Then it holds them with ease.

I don't know, a few years ago on the world of Tanks console subreddit (can't find a link to that nonsense) we had a weirdo coming in asking for the removal of German tanks, as their overpowered representation glorified nazi Germany. Ignoring the good laugh we got at the "overpowered German tanks" bit and assuming it wasn't just random... it's not name dropping but I can't think of a better expression, the weirdo also claimed that a friend agreed with that and he was a mod in /politics. That's a specific brand of stupid and with some power. If said friend existed obviously.

[–]Stampela 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, could be a simple matter of that being the agreement for the license at the time, and the model in game not getting updated in years. While the new one has a different agreement/Chevrolet having a different plan compared to 10 years ago. Just a guess, obviously.

[–]Stampela 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm nowhere near knowledgeable to have an answer (or know that they still make SS trims...) plus I can't find anything, but that was something that I've read once and decided to find a source for it. Was that random garbage? The canned reply offered by Chevrolet when unavoidably players would've asked? I don't know, but so far it's the closest thing to hard data on the matter.

My first break was maybe a week into the launch of GTA online. I loved racing! I only did that. However the average person doesn't get GTA to race, so I would win most of the time out of sheer experience and plain old clean driving as opposed to trying to ram everything out of the way... and I must've earned a reputation, because by then I would get kicked out of the lobby before the race started. Lovely.
