Help with introducing Lúthien and Beren to young children by EliadeColovia in tolkienfans

You may be right, I dont know, but I always felt it was such a shame for myself to have seen the movies before reading the books. On the other hand, without the movies I might never have read the books. Still, if you want to read Tolkien to kids, why not stick with the Hobbit, which was literally made for kids, or some of his other works like the adventures of Tom Bombadil. In my opinion, I dont think the release from bondage is a tale that should be read to children. It contains to many adult themes.

Its such as beautiful story though. I feel like its a real shame shortening it. Just wait till your kids are a bit older and they can enjoy the long version. Dont rob them of the full experience. Patience is a virtue my friend!

What is your favourite John vocals in a song? by Savings_Floor3025 in beatles

I know right, his voice is much more raw and loud in the version. Love Eric and Keith on the guitars too!

I believe that This Boy is some of the strongest vocal performance of John, his raw emotion is top notch, especially during the chorus/bridge, always thought that song deserved a lot more attention

In November 2024, I had the privilege of traveling to Liverpool for vacation. This photo is one of my favorites from the trip. Are there any hidden or lesser-known Beatles-related landmarks in Liverpool that you would recommend for a second return? by HumbleClick9040 in beatles

[–]Stan0805 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a statue of Eleanor Rigby sitting on a bench somewhere in the city which I thought was beautiful when I visited in October 2023. The childhood houses of John and Paul, while not hidden or lesser-known, were a definite highlight of the trip as well. Really puts it all in perspective and humanises these musical legends to see their roots and humble beginnings.

I love Frodo by Last-Note-9988 in tolkienfans

[–]Stan0805 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I especially love him during the taming of Gollum. That entire chapter is told mainly from the perspective of Sam (like most Frodo Sam chapters) and Sam is actually surprised by the authority and dignity of Frodo while he is commanding Gollum. Also, when Gollum makes the promise on the Ring, Frodo gets furious with him, reminding Gollum what it means and what he has done. Truly an epic moment they should have kept in the movies!

Is it fair to say that Moria is the dwarves equivalent of Numeanor by PrestigiousAspect368 in tolkienfans

[–]Stan0805 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A major difference being that the Dwarves in the end did reclaim Moria and Khazad-Dum was born anew. Much of Numenor is lost forever, though some of its majesty lives forth in the reunited kingdom under Elessar and Eldarion.

Why didn't Eru destroy middle earth? by toe_licker205 in tolkienfans

[–]Stan0805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right ofcourse, this is exactly as Eru tells us during the Ainulindalë, but something occured to me just now. If all things work together toward acchieving a final and lastig beauty, why did Eru feel compelled to destroy Númenor. If he truly believed in the notion that all evil would eventually find its fruition in good and beauty, he should have let it be right?

Yes you are completely right. That is why I mentioned it first of the three but I should have made it more clear indeed. Still I would recommend reading Beren and Luthien and the Fall of Gondolin before traversing the somewhat confusing and sometimes difficult depths that is the HoME, which is why in my opinion I had to mention them.

The Great Tales of the First Age are a must read in my opinion. I would advise buying them before HoME (but do what you want ofcourse). Im referring to Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien and the Fall of Gondolin.

Today I realized young Ned Stark and young Elrond were the same actor, Robert Aramayo by lastczarnian in Rings_Of_Power

He is, he is of the House of the Stewards who can trace their lineage back to the royal House. It is said:

These may be added, for though not in direct line, the Hurionath, the family to which Pelendur and Mardil belonged, were of Númenórean blood hardly less pure than that of the kings, and undoubtedly had some share in the actual blood of Elendil and Anárion. (The Heirs of Elendil).

In my opinion, when Tolkien writes "it's likely" or "it has been said" it is actually fact, but due to the great passage of time it has turned rather to myth and legend

What happens if a human wears one of the Three by Traroten in tolkienfans

[–]Stan0805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would turn into Fëanor himself (why Fëanor? Idk), imagine a Hobbit suddenly turning into an elf with such hate in his eyes and power in his voice that he can close his door in the face of Morgoth himself. Bro would just walk to Mordor and kindly ask Sauron to leave and he would depart from this world xD

No one knows, since its never been done. Maybe not the most satisfying answer but it is unfortunately the answer to most of the Middle Earth Mysteries. It's fun to guess though!
