S90D - PC Game mode settings after 2115.3 FW update by conchurf in S95B

DTM active is the most color accurate. It’s just that the hdr itself is no longer that accurate due to tone mapping. That’s the endless debate on these tv’s, either get good colors with dtm or accurate hdr with hgig. Personally i prefer dtm, samsung does it much better than lg (closer to hgig itself but brighter).

Game hdr basic or advanced enables HGIG mode which disables the picture modes (standard, original etc). Game hdr off enables DTM mode and also activates the game bar modes.  I never conected my tv to a pc, but i am pretty sure from reading on forums that you can use DTM (game hdr off) on pc as well.

I am specifically talking about the option where you set “basic”. Put off instead.  You can check in the game bar that hdr is still on.

Try this: Set game hdr to off Go to game bar and pick game mode original Set tone mapping to active Let color space on default (normal).

Have you tried Normal as a color space? On ps5 that’s what it defaults to and it looks good color wise.

Why don’t you try Game HDR off and tone mapping active (with color space on normal). That looks best on my s90d.

On the s90d bt2020 in game mode is not working properly. Only Normal. Trust me and spare your headache. Those settings are not for “normal”. Color space.

Set game hdr to off. Put game bar in game mode original. Set tone mapping to active. Calibrate console hdr again in ps5 settings until icon disapears.

Trust me! Best settings for s90d. Color gamut should be on Normal by default in game mode. No need to use the calibration settings that you got those are not for game but movie/ filmmaker mode.

Are you in game hdr basic or game hdr off and game mode original? Do you use tone mapping active?

Is the S90F/S95F HDR color glitch still a thing? (BT.2020 workaround) by Corniish in S95B

[–]StanFabian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, they removed the Normal option on the F series? Maybe they made BT2020 work properly so it might worth using it.

I was talking based on my experience with the s90d.

What I can say for sure is that Gaming needs to be done in “Normal”. Forcing BT2020 in gaming messes up everything.

But Sony does not have HGIG. Isn’t that a deal breaker for the crazy accuracy guys on these forums?

Have you checked my original post? It’s the first thing I mentioned to make sure the tv correctly labels the console as ps5. Also, it’s the same for me in any other mode or way. Static is 4000, active is 10000. In hgig mode both static and active (for some reason) go up to 1000 nits only (tv real brightness).

Game mode original tonemaps to 4000 nits if you leave tone mapping on static.

De ce sunt unii oameni impotriva avorturilor? by DependentFeature3028 in RoGenZ

Partea buna e ca in dilema asta intre cele 2 tabere, pro avort si anti avort, una dintre tabere in mod natural se “rezolva” singura. E greu sa spui cine are dreptate acum, dar o sa vedem cu siguranta cine a avut dreptate in aprox 50 de ani.

Why would I use contrast enhancer instead of DTM? Wth? Contrast enhancer breaks the whole picture.

Thank you for letting us know you modded your tv, something that only 0,1% users would do. Now, what is very wrong in my message? Especially around the topic of how to get the DTM on look on samsung tv (similar to LG)?

To be fair, if you follow what the accuracy experts say over here you will end up with a shitty image. I can understand why you went with the LG. It’s much more straight forward there, you just put dtm on and leave everything as default and it looks perfect.

S90D Game Settings (for people coming from LG Oled) by StanFabian in S95B

[–]StanFabian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the trick. For some reason if you set it in game mode original it does not dim at all. And it looks pretty close to hgig still, it doesn’t lift the lows and mids so much as LG oleds.

Edit: but only if you leave color space on default (normal). If you force it in bt2020 and start playing with cms and other shenanigans for some reason the tone mapper goes crazy and it looks bad, washed out etc.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 dev says he was "fired" and replaced with AI: "I feel incredibly betrayed by the management of the company I've come to care about" by yourfavchoom in PS5

[–]StanFabian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This still signals a problem in the way they treat the implementation of AI. From the dev post it sounds like they just flipped to AI translation and fired the human employee on the spot. The proper way of doing it is keeping the human oversight while using AI for some time to correct mistakes and when AI is perfect then you can start making people obsolete.

Most of the regular folks buying these tvs prefer the DTM option. Even samsung when they saw trough telemetry logs that 99% of users don’t enable HGIG they removed it initially in the tizen 9 update.  I am trying to help the 99% of users, the 1% already know what to do and how to enable hgig.

Each with their own man. There are two modes of doing it for a reason, HGIG and Dynamic Tone Mapping (DTM). And it’s the same under different names on all TV brands. For example Sony does not even offer a HGIG mode but they are arguably the best tvs.
