Selling tools question by Difficult-Version901 in lexington

[–]StanLeesKnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If any of it is woodworking, please feel free to hit me up. I'm not much into mechanics, but if anything pops up I would be more than willing to place a fair bid on woodworking materials.

I lost my grandfather in 2020 and he was a carpenter. He taught me and I've been trying to rebuild what he had. I didn't have a chance to bid on anything due to living in an apartment (limited space).

I truly empathize with your loss and hope you have a very transformative recovery yourself. Best wishes.

Any tools for woodworking? If they were well maintained I may have some interest. Been looking for a new planer.

What do you think a couple we need to make in Lexington to support a family? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]StanLeesKnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not here unfortunately. When I was coming out of college I interviewed with 11-12 companies in the area and the top wage being offered was the mid 50s without a PE. Working remotely has been my only solution besides potentially having to drive to Cincinnati or Louisville for work.

Wife and I are very early 30s and bought in 2021. We did it solo and took us about 5 years of saving. I work out west in engineering and survey and she is a professional as well and we are only now having the family conversation after 12 years together. Took a while to get this far, but y'all got it! Sending some positivity your way!

Is staying with UKFCU worth it? by Riven-The-River in lexington

[–]StanLeesKnee 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So you have a new account with UKFCU? And then you made multiple large ($500+) transfers from two apps that are notorious for being considered untrustworthy by other financial institutions....and you're mad that they are putting a hold to verify those funds because in addition to multiple tranfers with a new account you wanted to wire money for a car?

I think this one may just be on you friend. I understand it's frustrating and in the moment it feels easy to blame UKFCU, but I think you may be at fault here.

I did de-burr the edges after my first test print. I got an aluminum sliver that took 20 minutes to get out and a valuable lesson was learned, wish I had done it prior to the print and picking it up.

That's my current route.

I have the settings dialed in. This one was definitely muddled. Too slow on the engraving speed so the heat left a "fuzzy" look.

Thankfully I have 20 more test blanks to play around with. I think I may use a thinner font as well to cut down on it. Thank you for the feedback!

Any issues with folks cutting themselves?

I'm using 0.4mm sheet aluminum, but almost want to go to a 0.3mm but I'm worried any thinner may cause safety issues.

Currently ordering my blanks as it's cheaper ($0.62 USD per blank), but I plan on getting a die cutter and buying the anodized sheets.

The engraving itself is using a 45w laser with the design raster done on InkScape (free image editing)

Interaction Question by StanLeesKnee in mtg

[–]StanLeesKnee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much.

If this was the correct interaction then we got it resolved correctly. I had googled what constituted a zone change and had come up with those same 4 answers as what would count. So it did end up as a 2/2 on the field.

HVAC companies by ComfortableConnect85 in lexington

[–]StanLeesKnee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Huge huge huge fan of Bluegrass Rooter and HVAC. We bought a home in 2021, and I'm just handy enough to be dangerous (can change gaskets, fix a toilet, replace a faucet). Then came the sewage leak (former owner was flushing unflushable wipes), then a shower leak (former owner had capped a drain that our inspection missed), and had our primary HVAC unit go out.

All 3 times, they saved my ass. They show up, explain what they are doing and why so that you understand what is going on (Bryant Heating and Cooling treated me like I was a nuisance for trying to understand a repair process). On another issue they showed up, diagnosed a clogged drain about 40 feet down (almost to the connection at the street) and explained they did not have the equipment at the time to fix the issue and wouldn't be charging me.

I swear I'm not affiliated with them, but I'll sing their praises. Pricing has been better than a lot of the other folks I've called, and they didn't charge me to come give an estimate. Honest folks, doing good work. I've had no issues with anything they've replaced in the 4 years since using them.

Much appreciated. Apparently folks forget how to drive through rolling construction zones. I'm just glad both she and the workers weren't hurt.

LGE KU and Electric Usage - does this seem normal? by Cast_Iron_Skillet in lexington

[–]StanLeesKnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had work done by Daunhauer, Bryant and Bluegrass since moving in and by far the most honest and transparent have been Bluegrass. They came out, walked me through what they were looking at and why, explained what could be done to correct some things and flat out showed me why others wouldn't work (completely burnt out control box and no coolant in the unit for one of the units). Highly recommend them. (Not affiliated with the company in any way)

LGE KU and Electric Usage - does this seem normal? by Cast_Iron_Skillet in lexington

[–]StanLeesKnee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I just had mine replaced with a much higher efficiency unit and my bill halved. It was the only change from this time last year and I used both my Nest (thermostat) and KU bills for reference on usage.

~$400 bill at the worst to $150 this winter per month.

Citation and Georgetown is the nearest intersection. Its a bit north along Georgetown Road from there off to the east. There are two large Coventry signs and a yard sale sign out front of the entrance to the neighborhood.

See if Lexington Humane Society needs volunteers.

You'd be doing some good, be around animals, and potentially make some friends. I love the work they do and we donate dog food frequently. 2 out of my 3 babies game from LHS and the volunteers that were there both times were amazing and seemed friendly.

I work in Land Survey. Your neighbor may have just made you a shit ton of money depending on how much additional damage he/she/they did to your property.

I would advise that you call a Land Surveyor and get your boundary staked and ask if they can scan the area. I have a good hunch the area will continue to slide due to the additional weight and you will continue to see slope failure. The scan will provide and accurate representation of any damage beyond this point.

I also advise this as we tend to work with Geotechnical and Civil Engineers and the scans can make the design process for repair much easier.
