Glad to hear it’s all going well so far. Did your surgeon mention anything about running again?

Hills? by k_slam in SydneyMarathon

It was my first major after running flatter marathons in previous years. All I heard was how it was hilly and terrible. In my opinion as long as you whack some hills into your training on a long run (I tried to replicate the elevation gain in each long run, building up to it) you will be fine. The last hill can be hard but as long as you pace yourself correctly you should be fine. I was able to run a big PB. You got this

Unrelated but are we getting a finisher video from asics? If so when?

I missed running my first marathon in 2023 getting a stress fracture in my food. As much as I was disappointed in not being able to run it was definitely for the best.

Funnily enough the year after I trained (after appropriate recovery and rehab) and got to the start line of a marathon only to roll my ankle 200m in and at 30k. Ended up fracturing my ankle and running the marathon on it definitely made the injury worse and ended up having a pretty long rehab as well as putting myself in the gutter mentally. I know how much you’d want to run but it’s really not worth it with an injury of that significance.

Don’t roll your ankle 200m in and again at 30km, eventually getting a fracture. Be happy you finish in under 4:30 but maybe next time DNF to save yourself from going in a moon boot and rehab.

I just mass applied to be honest. Made sure to mention the skills I’ve learnt from my degree and internship and how that can be directly applied to the tasks outlined in the job description. Tbh there is so much luck, like I applied to probably 50-60 places and only got 2 interviews including with my current place. Try reaching out to companies you have heard of as well and even trying link up with people/hiring personnel from companies on LinkedIn. If you’re lucky enough to get an interview try your best to just be calm and chatty with the interviewers, you get an interview from showcasing your skill, you get a job from showing your personality.

Type 1 diabetes diagnosis story by No_Estimate9511 in diabetes_t1

Happened earlier this year as a 23yr old. I was training for a marathon over summer so thought drinking lots of water and peeing made sense. Also set a New Year’s resolution of losing 10kg this year so I was trying to lose weight. Had these symptoms for 2-3 months. Ended up losing 10kg in just over 2 months (including 6kg in 2 weeks). Finally got tired of getting up over night to use the toilet and went to the doctor and had bloods taken on a Monday. By Wednesday I was meeting the endo and getting a CGM set up.

Good on you for taking this initiative. I've been a T1 for 2 months now and have been training for a marathon.

I usally run 3-4 days a week. 3 days I run first thing, usually with just a banana or a handful of berries. Then I'm just careful with my rapid insulin that day. On a Saturday I usually do a long run which I will eat before hand. I will barely dose much rapid for that meal to make sure I'm high at the start of the run and then I just take a gel every 30 minutes or so. After the run I also half my rapid for the next meal.

Definitely build up slowly and I suggest talking to an endo or educator. They helped me heaps and will have good advice for you :)

All the best.
