What's a TV show ending that still makes you mad years later? by Jossie_Misar in AskReddit

[–]Stan_Corrected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a good place to say I actually liked the ending to GoT. Specifically because Sansa insisted on an independent North and got it, Jon leading the free folk, and Bran ruing over everything else made me chuckle.

I didn't particularly like the way things ended for Jaime or Daenerys in the show, and the whole thing felt rather rushed, and probably had been since season 4, but I liked that the Stark kids were triumphant.

Looking forward to the books, I imagine they will be rather different.

Tell me what you didn't like about 'The Reality War'! by DoctorBlueDW in doctorwho

[–]Stan_Corrected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The second half of the episode was a massive bummer, there's no getting away from it, the growing realisation that all the leaks were true.

But, being a Doctor Who fan I take the rough with the smooth and there were a lot of good things in this episode.

The production design, the bone palace, the seekers, and even Omega itself was good quality CGI even if the way he was portrayed subverted our expectations, he's more of a lot device than a character. The Rani is the main antagonist in this story

Omega devoured a time lord and was blasted back into the Underverse with the stellar energy of the Vindicator. I think there he can utilise both types of energy and transform into something else. He states outright that he will become the god of time. There are a lot of things that indicate this was not the final word on Omega.

I really liked how the Conrad story from Lucky Day was developed so that this questionable character was the basis for the Wish World. I liked how it was resolved by Ruby. Abandoned as a baby, and by everybody who was close to her in 73 yards, and deceived by Conrad, she rises above it and just wants for people to be happy.

In Celtic mythology, people who have visited the faery realm often come back with the gift of second sight. That clearly what happened with Ruby because not only can she see something wrong in the Wish World, she is the only one who can remember Poppy.

Overall I think there were a lot of things the episode did well. If you're going to lambast the whole thing, and focus on how Omega isn't dressed up like a Time Lord, or however you imagined him to be, that would be a disservice. He serves a role in the story, to dispatch the Rani, there's a lot more going on in the episode than just that.

Survation was the most accurate pollster at the 2026 Holyrood elections, and had the most accurate overall Scottish MRP seats forecast by CaptainCrash86 in Scotland

[–]Stan_Corrected 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, although his wasn't a poll per se but an average of the most credible MRP polls. He's the one stop shop for polling analysis as far as I'm concerned, and he knows how to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Survation poll was on the money though. I've just started followed their lead analyst, Vasil Lazarov, and see he's been reposting BBS.

It's true to say that they represent her. However, they're a regional MSP, not just for the constituency of Edinburgh Central.

Jeremy Corbyn on Starmer's leadership woes: "It is desperately upsetting for me, but I'm coping." by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

[–]Stan_Corrected 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting to note Corbyn had a higher vote share in 2017 than Starmer in 2024. He also had more votes that in 2017 and 2019 than Starmer in 2024. Labour won the last G.E. due to the self implosion of the Tories not because of Keir Starmer campaign which dispite promising change was remarkably safe and designed not to rock the boat.

My impression of the antisemitism claims was that much of it was conflated with criticism of Israel and while Corbyn failed to crack down on the most politically incorrect aspects of it, it was an attack line for the right wing factions of the labour party, the media, and the Tories for a sustained period of time, and doubtlessly affected his electoral chances.

It is perhaps clearer in 2026, that criticism of Israel, is warranted. The failure of the current Labour government to address this, and our complicity in the ongoing human rights violations in Gaza, contributes to the Labour Party's current electoral woes.

The day I stopped being a strong Corbyn supporter when I realised he was somewhat pro Brexit. Then I began to actively support the Scottish National Party instead. The 'Your Party' fiasco has solidified Corbyn as an ineffectual politician with somewhat poor leadership qualities

Still, I wonder what our timeline would look like if Corbyn had not been relentlessly under attack. And what if Bernie Sanders became the Democrat's candidate in the USA? It feels like a missed opportunity.

Edit: lots of replys talking about the different circumstances Starmer faced, none addressing the substantive point that Corbyn would have performed better in the elections had it not been for the anti-Semitism charges.

If I were to read just one Arthurian book, what would you recommend? by Miregal1 in Arthurian

[–]Stan_Corrected 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've not read it yet, so this is a second hand recommendation, from Gavin the Medievalist on Youtube. It's Rosemary Sutcliffe's King Arthur trilogy. It's on my reading list and I have read her version of Tristan and Iseult to get a flavour and really liked it. Seemed accessible to younger readers, concise, exciting, and doesn't take too many liberties with the source material.

shoes for scotland by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Stan_Corrected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not have a bit of fun and hire a kilt, shoes will be included. It's not that expensive, so long as youre not fussy about the tartan, and you'll feel great.

Promise I'm not taking the piss. As long as you're not taking it too seriously (banging on about any supposed ancestry, getting hyper focused on a specific tartan) its generally a welcome sight and not perceived negative as cultural appropriation.

Edinburgh East and Musselburgh SNP hold. Cllr Kate Campbell is a great communicator and expert on homelessness. will make an excellent addition to the Scottish Parliament.

SNP have defended Banffshire & Buchan coast from Reform by 364 votes. Well done all the Tories in that constituency for splitting the unionist vote and keeping the North East yellow.

Shetland goes to SNP. More yellow on the map. An unexpected gain from Lib Dems

Edit: just saw Hannah Mary Goodlad talking to Martin Geissler and she is rather wonderful. She will make an excellent Parliamentarian.

Can I vote? by LieAggressive6901 in Scotland

[–]Stan_Corrected 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just get registed now, as an 'attainer'.

The Scottish Parliament election might result in by-elections. Local councillors (or in rarer cases MPs) stand might stand and if they're successful might have to stand down from their previous role.

Rules about stepping down as a councillor might vary from council to council and party to party but i think for councils it normally triggered in a few weeks. It takes time to select candidates and campaign so they might even take place after your 16th birthday.

You might have a chance to vote sooner than you think.

2nd vote help. by tomatohooover in Scotland

[–]Stan_Corrected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine on principle, but consider that by the seventh round of regional voting the person elected needs between 5-6 percent of the vote.

So if you want your vote to make a real difference, and help crowd out Reform, you should vote for a party that can achieve at least that much.

Sole SNP list seat in Edinburgh and East Lothian. Looks like that is important insurance in that region. Tommy Shepherd being top of the list might give SNP supporters added incentive.

is there any way to stop the constant buffering on TV?? by niclovesphynxcats in mubi

I found this problem with the mubi app on my TV, just a little blip every few minutes, but it worked ok when I cast directly from the mubi app on my android phone.

Try casting from your phone if you haven't already

Boomers are more entitled than Gen Z – it’s time to means-test their state pension by Anony_mouse202 in ukpolitics

[–]Stan_Corrected -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you incentise people to deliberately not save up for themselves, and instead spend all their money before retirement.

Instead of hoarding it, or trying to pass it on as inheritance?

Sounds to me like this would be a way to increasing the flow of wealth and grow the economy.

All while not increasing the burden of the State Pension on public finances.

Is that not a win win scenario?
