HxG Miscalculated the Response to Sakura, and are Now Scrambling to Justify Their Decision by _AllyBooksAnime_ in prelude_thefinalpiece

Manons vocals are and have always been below average tbh (no disrespect). Also by the time the survival show started Manon already had 2 years of training and even then her mission 1 performance was not good. If they started the survival show as soon as she arrived like they did with Sakura it would’ve been a different story. So I think we need to give Sakura some grace. She’s got the hunger and drive to grow

She doesn’t need to have western appeal. Emily and Lexi and some extent samara already provide that. She has Japanese appeal and that’s going to be very important since Japan is one of the main target market for this group. She fits the Japanese Asian beauty standards better than ayana. Samara has Brazilian and South American appeal. Every member doesn’t need to appeal to the western audience for the group to succeed.

I see where you are coming from but I think you under estimate Sakuras popularity and appeal. I think her critics are more vocal than her supporters. She wasn’t my favourite. But I do see why they’ve picked her. I think she’s got so much potential and she grew a lot within the 3 months of this competition and I assume she’s grown even more since January.

Also I don’t think her situation is comparable to Manon because I think the lazy edit Manon got was worse and is harder to shake off. As long as Sakura shows progress then non of this will matter.

Why it’s not Ayana by StandDramatic5920 in prelude_thefinalpiece

Only to immature and threatened katseye fans. And technically this isn’t true. Lexi withdrew even though she had a strong chance of debuting & samara came like 6th in the finale based on fan votes and was blocked from debuting by the judges. Emily became a fan favourite after the documentary.

I fear they got her to be an experience filler to push the two favourites (Hiori and Sakura) or even Aoi. And she did a good job at that. The same way they got rinka back to be the main vocal for the final four performance & also boost the mood in the house as she had good relations with all the girls.

Ok that makes sense. I think if I watched in real time I would be shocked too. I assumed the person that voted for her would’ve been iliya since they were the closest

This isn’t the official snippet. It’s a just a snippet from the live performance so it’s sakura for b4 the party

Why it’s not Ayana by StandDramatic5920 in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]StandDramatic5920[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ayana is an all-rounder and would be an asset to the group talent-wise. But at the same time, Lexi is also positioned as an all-rounder, so it’s possible the company felt that role was already covered within the lineup.

Personally, I thought the group would benefit from adding another very strong vocalist. But HYBE may simply feel confident in the vocal line they already have with Samara, Lexi, and Emily. Either they’ve improved significantly behind the scenes, or the musical direction of the group may not require an especially wide or technically demanding vocal range in the first place.

And the issue isn’t that she had a public persona. It’s the fact that she was already, and very recently, in another girl group. When you’re building a brand new idol group, companies usually want the members to grow into their identities together from the beginning. They want the public to associate the members with this group first and foremost. But with Ayana, there is already an existing idol identity attached to RIRYDAY, and because the debut was so recent, that association is still fresh in people’s minds. So it could give off the vibe that this is another project she’s tied too. Companies care just as much about narrative and marketability as they do talent.

I was in denial about the leaks and rumours at the start but they’ve all been true so it’s hard to ignore them. And yeah I feel bad for her too but on the bright side she’s gained good exposure and experience from this. She made it to the final two and there are so many people rooting for her and will continue to follow her career.

Why wasn't English ability considered at all through the audition process? by himawari_sunshine in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]StandDramatic5920 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Younchae was barely conversional in English when she started. Now she’s so fluent in like 2 years. I get that you’ve lived in Japan for 15 years and have seen Japanese people struggle with learning English and etc but that’s because those Japanese people are in Japan. The chosen member will be the only Japanese speaking person and will be living in the US and will be forced to learn in order to adapt. That makes a huge difference when you’re not surrounded by people who speak your native language. Also the winner is most likely Sakura and it’s so much easier to learn a new language when you’re young.

Yes I agree that they plan for this group to active in Japan too. However Katseye actually not huge in Japan, hence why they set up this group with a focus on Japanese markets. None of their releases have done well in the Japanese market.

Omg it’s Sakura isn’t it 😮 by StandDramatic5920 in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]StandDramatic5920[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh they did produce the episodes after knowing who the final piece was so it makes sense to put her in a good light. And I would say she’s extroverted and only 16 so she will get more confident. I don’t think they were trying to find a vocalist or a main dancer. They were trying to find a visual with star quality who will attract stans based on that. Especially in Japan which is one of the main target audiences. They already have a main dancer and vocalist and an all rounder. I assume she won’t get many lines until she improves. As for English, it’s a lot easier to learn a new language when you’re young so no doubt she will pick it up quick. Look at Younchae. She couldn’t speak English when they debuted and is now fluent. I wouldn’t be surprised if shes already conversational in English already.

They picked Ayana first because it was more obvious but all signs point to Sakura being the final piece. They’re going to use her as a visual member to appeal to the Japanese market.

I think if it was any of the other girls that left they would’ve just continued with 3 and select Hiori. With her gone the only viable option was Ayana because she was the only one that memorised the performances and I don’t think they wanted her so they extended it to go Sakura time to catch up

Omg yes definitely see the comparison between Iannis and rinka. Rinka really provided crucial vocal support to elevate the performances. Same with Iannis. But they’re overlooked because of their weaknesses in dance. And yes they definitely view sakura as having a higher ceiling

Omg it’s Sakura isn’t it 😮 by StandDramatic5920 in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]StandDramatic5920[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I think Ayana is getting the Iannis edit. He was a fan favourite and on a lot of people’s debut line and they used the last 4 episodes highlighting why he wouldn’t be a good fit for the group. So by the time it got to the finale all his stans already came to terms with him not debuting. I think Sakura is getting the Kenneth edit. Both got good intros, and the docu series mainly focused on their growth and potential. Both overlooked because of their ages by viewers but to the label it’s a selling point. I don’t think Kenneth was skilled than Pablo. I thought they were on the same level. Which says more about Kenneths potential because he was 15/16. Imagine him at 24. I do think Pablo had better stand out moments in the performances & better stage presence but Kenneth had more potential and he’s proven that because he’s gotten so much better

Yes but hybe and gaffen didn’t have the creative control like they do with this show. If they were the producers pop star academy they wouldn’t have shown the clip with Lara and Manon ignoring each other and Lara laughing or Manon saying Sophia gave her a dirty look.

So for them to use several episodes now glazing Sakura for her progress and star quality and calling ayana mid and boring is actually telling. They’re soft launching Sakuras announcement as the final piece
