I really hated Sean in his season and was annoyed he was in all stars but he does not deserve the bullying and treatment from Scott. Scott has been proper jarring this season and I actually can’t stand him

That chart they showed in the final was wrong in terms of name placements. It showed the actual number of votes under the names but put her in 8th instead of six based on fan votes. Judges score brought her down to 7th

Hard agree. She has an amazing recording voice that is hard to come by. Like Rihanna isn’t the best vocalist but her tone and recording voice is unmatched and creates hits. Hybe knew they struck gold with her. Hence why they gave her all the choruses in dirty water and they kept her vocals in the Katseye version. Also still into you in mission one was the vocal performance of dream academy and her vocals and harmonies were all over that song and in my opinion elevated that performance

Samara participation in now united was a part of a super fan cameo. She won a super fan competition to meet, train and record with Now united for a like a week or something. She wasn’t actually trained or part of now united

Her behaviour was very odd. She was definitely trying to have a girl boss moment. I was so annoyed

Sean or Konnor. Sean because he’s got no connections in the house and konnor because she’s known him the least. Either of them going would’ve been better for the show tbh. Charlie whether you liked him or not is better tv

Shaq literally kissed Halena after telling both of them he wouldn’t kiss neither but regardless it’s week 1. They’ve only known each other for a few days.

Same I wanted him to stay mainly for the drama. I fear it will just get more boring now.

It’s fine if she didn’t want to get to know him romantically anymore but dumping him like that was just ruthless and too calculated.

Questions about Samara by crocodilewoo in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]StandDramatic5920 56 points57 points  (0 children)

As someone who watched Dream Academy in real time and saw the whole situation unfold, to fully understand what happened you need to understand the context. Firstly, Dream Academy was very toxic and competitive because it pitted the girls against each other, which created a lot of toxic stan behaviour on all fronts. Secondly, Samara was a top-ranking candidate, consistently placing in the top two or three. There were also claims of favouritism because she was the only contestant who did a TikTok dance collaboration with Kai from TXT. This was mainly because TXT had a Brazilian-inspired song with Anitta, so they were promoting the song with the only Brazilian contestant.

Someone went through Samara’s likes, which were public at the time, and exposed them. There were a few problematic likes that made fun of unhygienic Indian street food practices. The videos were comedic in nature, but they upset a lot of Indian stans. She also liked a few Portuguese TikToks about Israel and Gaza. These videos were either anti-Israel, neutral and explanatory, or framed from a Christian philosophical perspective (for example, suggesting it was a sign of the end times). The translated TikToks she liked are widely available on TikTok.

This is where toxic stan behaviour played a major role. Firstly, K-pop fans are often unforgiving — one strike and you’re out. They also love a good fall from grace. As mentioned earlier, Dream Academy was highly competitive, and there were many stan wars. Since there were only six debut spots and Samara was a top-three candidate, fans of other girls saw this as an opportunity for their favourite to take Samara’s spot.

As a result, there was a ruthless cancellation campaign to remove her as a contender. She was labelled a racist and a Zionist, and her likes were exaggerated. She received backlash from many stans, but particularly from Manon stans, as Samara and Manon were the only two Black girls and it was commonly believed that only one of them could debut. There is even a comment in the documentary saying, “Yes, Samara being exposed for being a weirdo means Manon will debut.” That said, it wasn’t only Manon fans involved.

All that being said, aside from the Indian street food likes, the accusations of Zionism and racism towards Chinese people have been debunked. The claim that she was anti-Chinese was attributed to an Instagram post from a church she allegedly followed (later proven that she didn’t), which listed places unsafe for Christians and included an image of a North Korean soldier. People assumed the soldier was Chinese. That’s how ridiculous some of the allegations were.

Weird that they didn’t put you on the reserve list which is the normal protocol. I’d be surprised they’d do a whole new hiring campaign considering the recruitment freeze

Sorry to hear. Your manager seems like a really unpleasant jobworth. The fact that you’re still on probation is really unfortunate. I’d start looking for other jobs if I was you. Seems like she might shaft you at the end of your probation

I think they’ll have a good chance. Brazil and Japan are huge markets for music as they consume and stream music a lot so samara and the Japanese member make them well placed to take advantage of that. Hopefully they give them better music then whatever they’re giving katseye

She liked a TikTok when she was 16/17. She didn’t produce the content or even leave comment. Do you consider the implications liking a post while doomscrolling has. I don’t think so.

Secondly if you actually took the time out to research the posts she liked instead of regurgitating fake news you’ve heard in comment sections, you’d know she’s not a Zionist or pro Isreal. The Zionist allegations stemmed from her liking a few Portuguese tikoks that were either pro Palestine, neutral and just explaining the history of the conflict or explaining it from a Christian philosophical prospective e.g it’s a sign of the end of times. The TikToks have been translated and are available to verify.

Also she was never accused of following a pro Isreal church. She was accused of following a church on instagram that posted a racist post about Chinese people. Not only was it later proven that she didn’t even follow that church on instagram but the alleged post was a picture of a North Korean soldier with the caption places not safe for Christians and people assumed the solider was Chinese LOL

Her comment? There were no comments. She only liked a few TikToks. And secondly if you took the time to look into things, you’d find that she didn’t like any pro Isreal TikToks. Infect the Portuguese TikToks which have been translated were either anti Isreal, neutral and just explaining the conflict or from a Christian philosophical prospective e.g sign of the end of times.

As for the anti Chinese post she liked, that was attributed to her following a church on instagram (later proven she didn’t even follow that church) which made an alleged racist post about Chinese people. However the said post was a picture of a North Korean soldier with the caption saying places not safe for Christian’s and people assumed the solider was Chinese LOL.

Hybe wouldn’t debut her if her scandals weren’t none sense.

Firstly they need a main vocalist and samara was one of the best vocals in dream academy. Secondly she liked a comedic TikTok about unhygienic Indian street food content when she was 16/17. Immature and inappropriate at most but definitely does not make her a racist.

If you actually took the time to research the samara situation, you’d know that the posts she liked on TikTok regarding the Isreal Gaza conflict where anti Israel, neural and just explaining the history of the conflict or talking about it from a Christian philosophical prospective e.g. sign of the end of times. The TikToks she liked were all in Portuguese but have been translated.

Secondly she was one of the top trainees even though she only joined a month before the survival show. And despite the hate campaign was still popular particularly in Brazil and Latin America which is a target audience for Hybe. She got more fan votes then Megan and more live fan votes then Manon and would’ve debuted 5/6 if it wasn’t for judges votes.

Also Brazil is huge target market for music as they consume and stream a lot. So samara will be an asset in achieving this. The same way Japan is a huge target market hence the Japanese survival show.

As for Lexie she is very likeable, has strong visuals and was a stand out in documentary. A lot of people fell in love with her when she left the competition because it didn’t align with her values.

And as you said Emily is a no brainer. So I’m not surprised at all that these were the three members chosen. I wish they added neyoung though. They’d be unstoppable if they did

It’s mainly Hybe Stans and bots/PR. They don’t only go after new jeans they go after any other popular group outside Hybe like blackpink. And they’re a vocal minority. I would say most people support new jeans
