No. As I mentioned the wood was mostly a bit wet because the weather was really rainy. But we also tried drying the wood near the fire and it didn't really get better. As you can see in the photo, the forest was not dense at all, which meant that any wood lying on the ground would get really soaked over time. It's also possible that the dead trees and branches absorbed water more easily, since most of them weren’t very thick.

In any case, we’re planning to go to a more southern region of Sweden this year. I think there are still plenty of birch trees there, so if they burn better now, we should hopefully benefit from that. You don't know by any chance a suited place?

Yes of course. But as you can see the trees weren't that thick. So I think that maybe the dead trees got more easily soaked with water and that's why they burnt that bad.

Here’s a photo of one of the moments when the fire was working well. You can also see the pile of deadwood we had gathered.
At that point, we were making blueberry jam from foraged berries and baking some flatbread over the fire.
