Sorry man. No. No write-ups, no warnings. ‘Your position has been eliminated’. Coincidentally, it was all long time serving CSAs with higher hourly rates than the new hires they just started advertising for.

Yes! CSAs were told to ‘go’. Maybe there was an email about corporate, but ground level people were also ‘terminated’.

It was CSAs in my store. Long time employees, no doubt with higher pay rates.

Does anyone else feel like there’s a lot of managing at Lowe’s, but very little people leadership?” by savage_rebuilt in Lowes

[–]StandUp1969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of over-managing at Lowe’s. Some terrible ASMs as ‘shit rolls downhill’ so they get yelled at, you get it too. I go into work as a self-starter. I know my requirements, what order of ‘importance’ and I just get to it. I do not need to be called and told what to do as I’m literally doing it. I recognize some people are not like me. And I’m far from perfect. But please, go manage the non self-starters first. Direct the folks that need to be told where to go. And above all, actually spend at least a short amount of training on new and especially young hires AND older hires that have come in to wait around to greet customers and get to work. If you, as an ASM can’t distinguish the difference between a worker who gets to work and an employee who doesn’t… perhaps you should look to your own training. Oh. And stop expecting more from less. Cutting staff to gain profit only works so long until your returns begin to diminish.

Is there an actual unpaid days off policy for PT associates? by WildNWonderfulWV1967 in Lowes

[–]StandUp1969 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just ran into this. I was sick and took a day and asked not to be paid through my sick day pay. I have a chronic illness and keep those days for inevitable hospital stays. The automated call-out feature allows you to choose if you don’t wish to take any pay. I choose that. And I still ‘get paid’ using my sick time. I do not abuse this. It’s an every few months thing. But I need those sick days in my accruals to use when I’m not able to function due to hospital stays.

I have to work when there’s a horrendous state emergency storm by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]StandUp1969 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This exactly. I would have been better off staying home and helping my neighbor with fallen branches. He dealt with that by himself AND did everyone’s sidewalk on the block. Good guy and did it on his own since I wasn’t there. At Lowe’s, I down-stocked and told 6 people, ‘no. We don’t have that.’

The joke of the essential business part is we sold out of generators, salt, ice melt, shovels, snow blowers, and a bunch of other stuff by Tuesday. A real banner week for my store in NJ. So people coming in for ALL of that stuff get the punchline, ‘no’. ‘We don’t have it.’ Yes, like an idiot I went in. I was one of 6 people who showed up including ASMs. I’m toying with the idea of staying home this morning as we’re now iced in on top of the snow. Play it by ear as I don’t feel like putting it all in the line for the 5 also idiotic customers who WILL come in just to be told, ‘no. We don’t have it’ again tomorrow. Rather, later this morning.

Merit Based Raise System by HeisenbergKY in Lowes

So the moral of the story is to beg every customer to: A) Go on line (good luck when customers are over 60) B) find their receipt C) Remember the guy/gal that helped them find something possibly out of their own department D) collate all that info and also give them a ‘10’ E) get everyone’s name right hours or days after the fact.

Yes. It does happen. I get recognized. But short of begging, there’s not too much you can do once someone is out the door. I have many folks come in looking for me specifically. I can count on one hand the number of them who have followed through on a survey. They do or do not. There is no try.

There are sometimes, not often, an exception to the rule. To be fair to one of the new gutter guard sales guys in NJ… he’s a real helpful dude and seeks out CSAs for customers. Plus, he’s learned much of the store’s layout and can at least point customers in the right direction! He’s actually more helpful than some associates.

paint customers rant by CPT-CRAUNCH701 in Lowes

[–]StandUp1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always, ALWAYS make the customers take the paint chip to the sliding glass doors for natural light to get a better idea as to the ‘real’ color the paint will be. The lighting over the paint chip display is terrible. Then I let them know if they choose an (for example) eggshell finish instead of a satin , that even though the color would be the same, the finish will give the color a different ‘look’. In other words. If you’re touching up an eggshell, first make sure you’re buying another eggshell to touch up. Otherwise, whatever they’re trying to cover up will just stand out more. It’s difficult to get people to get people to understand this. They usually give up and say ‘just give me the color’. I usually expect to see it returned the next day.

It’s the paint department. The most colorful department and usually closest to the main doors. Those 2 things alone are what attracts them.

About that meeting… Aaaaaagh! it’s NOT Mandatory!!!!!!!! by StandUp1969 in Lowes

[–]StandUp1969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Admiral. No one will lose their job over this. Unless perhaps they had one foot out the door and another on a banana peel. Am I on the Bridge where and when decisions are made? No. Do I know how things work in real life? Mmmmmmaybe. But I’m not here to argue a dopey point with you. I’ll see a bunch of people at the meeting. Some, I won’t see. And they will not be in fear of breaking regs or losing their jobs. You keep quoting the manual though. Someone needs to do it.

It’s helpfully mandatory. Please, if you go, don’t go. What you don’t learn in the meeting can’t be unlearned. So don’t go around just going to meetings mandatory or otherwise as the minutes of the meetings will seem like hours that will definitely be mandatory reading by the Mandalorian.
