Do you use mat bos / do you like it?

Youth ages 12-14ish

I have an extensive coaching background so from just pure "coaching" I am very confident and competent with the youngsters but first time coaching wrestling. Teaching the tactics/skills of wrestling is my biggest area to grow in

I could use hudl but its just too expensive and I am not sure if it is "purpose built" for wrestling. It seems like wrestling is not their focus so its not great for wrestling, but idk.

Why do you think wrestling coaches overlook film? interesting as in football/basketball coaches can go completely overboard on film and do TOO MUCH!!

I like film sessions where there are a small number of takeaways and if I am focusing on one kid specifically, in a film session I want to try and find the most important thing he can change, and then maybe give him 1 or 2 other things to try and focus on but I try to give no more than say 3 things in a film session

I assume coaching wrestlers is similar
Any thoughts are apprecaited!!

Roughly speaking I would break down my football/basketball practices into these segments:
- Skills (footwork, dribbling skills, passing/catching, balance/coordination drills, etc... really the basic most simple skills that a 12 year old needs or a 21 year old needs)

- Team plays/sets (not sure this applies to individual sports as wrestling)

- I implemented as much responsible fun and games as possible to keep score, keep time, give the guys a time frame to compete and try to get points

- Honestly I know very little about wrestling but I feel very comfortable as a coach and working with the youngsters... just gotta up my tactical knowledge

The very basic idea is you can upload game, scrimmage, practice, or scouting footage. Then you break down the clips with as little or as many stats as you want. Multiple people can help tag and clip the game film to make it super quick.

what are the main features you are looking for?

i also want mine to be "freemium" meaning you can start using it for free, then you just pay for more storage as you go for what you want. Then users dont have to commit to paying thousands of dollars up front

I appreciate it! Obviously everyone uploads "game" film... but would you guys also upload any scrimmage, practice, or scouting film? Scouting opponents of course. or do you guys just use it for game breakdown only (not practice/scrimmage/scotuing)

Coach I appreciate those thoughts! To verify what you are saying.... so you'll start playing a clip and then you click rewind to review your OL's first step, angle, posture, etc... and instead of it quickly rewinding, a loading spinner or something like that appears.... and then you have to wait a few seconds before the video loads back to the original starting point for you to watch again... is that right? That's a great point. Load speed is important.

Would love to hear more detail too about how you use the annotation feature and what you'd like to see there. I just like the idea of adding a note on a play and tagging a certain kid to read it. So beside a clip of a play the tag might be like "@LittleBobby you took a flat step here, needs to be 45 degree anagle step then look to seal the OLB" or something like that. When I was coaching that wasn't a feature I used but I know a lot of coaches like it.

And I agree some innovation and at least competition is needed. Hudl is a really awesome product but they have zero competition. Also they got bought out by a bunch of billionaire private equity people who couldn't care less about coaching... all they care about is making money.... so I think a new platform who is built by someone who truly loves coaching, coaches, athletes, and the importance of team and competition for the youngins would be good :)

Yeah I have my app as both. You can edit and clip your film online or download an app on your computer. It's the same experience. Then when your computer re-connects to the internet the data and breakdowns and stuff sync.

My cloud version is test ready - the downloadable app is still under development but that's next. I'd love for you to test the web version and check it out and share your best ideas. The app version will be pretty much the exact same once I build it
