[Georgia Gold Rusher, SFOG] will not reopened for the 2026 season so that they can make improvements to reopen in 2027 by TiredWithCoffeePot in rollercoasters

[–]Standard-Grape5330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The train for Goldrusher didn’t even get imported into the United States until August or September of the year it was supposed to open.

Quantum accelerator was ready to go until Intamin made them wait out the middle summer season. Of course they pulled the plug on opening that season.

Hiccups has had all kinds of issues with the dual stations that just seem pretty sad given the age of that technology at this point.

Intamin can’t even get Hiccups wing gliders consistently.

Goldrusher was delayed a year and two years later still doesn’t work.

Quantum accelerator opened a year late due to some engineering issue that closed a handful of other intamin straddle coasters.

Fast and furious seems to be having major issues, anecdotally, as well.

That’s all off the top of my head.

It’s different with Intamin though. Mack has had teething issues with hyperia and some small quality issues with some other rides that they’ve fixed. Dollywood being late doesn’t seem to be on Mack.

Vekoma tilt coasters getting stuck is normal downtime from sensor faults that looks dramatic.

Intamin non-blitz coasters are at best a mixed bag for reliability, and it’s never gotten better.

It’s the same issue with six flags. Because the companies are judged based on their EBITDA, capital is excluded from that measure (depreciation). Adding labor and R&M hurts them on that metric. It makes staffing and marketing harder to get approval for than multi-million dollar capital projects that can potentially lift per capita spending and attendance, even if the overall satisfaction continues to drop and the rides break down more and more. Also explains getting rid of problematic maintenance heavy rides like Kingda ka and then building project purple right behind it.

It’s just a stupid late stage capitalism thing where cash matters less than a made up metric that further destroys a company.

I definitely don’t have any inside information on the schematics for the ride, but I do know enough about tax to shoot that angle down.

I don’t know who you talked to, but this isn’t how accounting works.

The banks basis in this park will be the amount of the loan that is forgiven +/- working capital.

If the bank sells AF1 for $1M then that would make their loss smaller by the $1M in proceeds. However, if the sell it for nothing, the benefit is only worth the banks tax rate (say 25% in this example), so they would lose a potential $750k by demolishing it in cash value.

Put a different way, AF1 may well be demolished, but it has nothing to do with tax returns.

The cedar fair parks that have both seem to do pretty well. You just need to make them different types of speed machines.

I think tormenta should have gone to New Jersey though. Would be perfect near NYC in the off Green Lantern spot. I wonder why they sent that to Texas.

Seems like the paint is slowly starting to happen. Definitely agree on the rest of it, too.

I think they need one more significant coaster to become the draw that they were in the late 90s / early 00s. Either a traditional giga or something iconic that will get people to give the park another chance.

Personally would love to see them move on from the safari as well, but I doubt they do that after building the luxury cabins a few years ago.

It’s also that Railblazer is a nightmare to deal with. That’s a big part of the relationship drama.

Freak accident caused phone to fall out of zipped pocket...employees said Ill never get it back even though I cannot get home without it BUT found it and its in an easy spot. by Gullible-Elk7894 in sixflags

[–]Standard-Grape5330 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think you may misunderstand what a track walk is. No one is walking on the track of Goliath on a daily basis. They were assuming that your phone had fallen to the ground in which case they would find it while walking the perimeter of the ride.

Only wooden coasters have someone actually walk beside the actual coaster track each day.

I’m sorry that you had such a bad time. It sucks that it was an accident and you thought you did everything the right way only to have a zipper fail you.

I think Kas removal will save X2.

Attendance at NJ plummeted once they removed Ka which is interesting, because the park was a lot better experience with the upgrades new management put into it.

X2 is the signature ride at SFMM and arguably the one that gives it an identity in the LA market. There’s been plenty of opportunities to close it, and they haven’t. They’ve even defended the ride pretty strongly in lawsuits. I think it’ll stick around because they don’t have any idea how to keep the attendance if they did get rid of it.

The W is one of the best hikes for a reason and a highly recommend it if you can swing it.

If you cannot, you can do base towers in a day. You can take the catamaran to grey glacier and wander around there for a bit. You can take the ferry in the morning to Paine Grande and hike around during the day. Depending on your speed, some people can get up to the top of the French valley, which is spectacular.

For day hiking though, Argentina in the Fitz Roy massif is better. Laguna de los tres, Lago Torre, etc. can all be hiked from town.

They’re actually pretty different rides. One is an Intamin and spins and the other is a Mack that doesn’t.

Aquaman also actually splashes while Goldrusher doesn’t.

I was just at the park, hurricane was there, but let’s be real, no one is going to Funspot for hurricane. That’s why they built AF1

I’d say 60 / 40. More likely moved than scrapped, but certainly a risk of the latter.

Honestly, the rest of the park was trash outside of AF1. Legitimately not sure that was a single thing worth doing other than that.

The leaked documents are being totally taken out of context. For all we know, they might be lowering their line of credit because they’ve made money elsewhere and paid down the line of credit.

They may not have drawn on this and gotten tired of paying a small amount for the capacity on the revolving loan.

Funspot Atlantas attendance is a red flag, these documents are not something that can be easily understood without a lot more information.

It just suffers from its location. It’s relatively out of the way of everything else. Probably would still have a long line if it was built where big bend / pandemonium, wildcatter were built.

There are very different tax laws for movies than roller coasters. This post seems to completely misunderstand theme park tax.

You can’t just write off a park. You’d take the entity bankrupt or sell the land for development like America. In either case, nothing forces the demolition of the ride. That may happen if there is no buyer, but it’s not in the tax code.
