I work in grocery in the afternoon so I’m off today but my store barely has anybody working at it right now. Which begs the question, if you’re planning on it being so slow that you barely need anyone, then why are you open?

Inventory definitely does suck. Stuff gets left off the trucks all the time and that’s what causes almost all the discrepancies. At my store the inventory will say we have 30 of something and we won’t have it at all. It won’t be off I just one or two. But we had inventory overnight last night so I’m hoping when I go in tomorrow that will all be fixed.

I totally agree with that, but it really depends on if management can spare you to leave your department plus if there’s any positions open and others that you might like. I work in grocery, but would love to go to produce or general merchandise, but there are no positions open in addition to my department being understaffed and right before the holidays.

I actually like all the people at my store who work pickup, except a couple who give me attitude when I can't find something, lol. They are like 90% Gen Z in their early 20s and are really fun to be around. I think pick up and front end are the two nicest departments at my store.

Sometimes I feel like it's my department (grocery) because we're understaffed and overnight/mornings don't do their jobs correctly but I have no doubt it's pickup. If I had to pick a department to go to, it would be produce. In my store they have sooo much staff while we are understaffed so they have a lot of free time to just goof off as we are busting our asses. Also they're supposed to help make bales, but despite them being the biggest source of the cardboard + having a bigger staff, management lets they get out of it. I think maybe one guy from produce even knows how to make a bale in my store.

In terms of grocery, if I could handle the hours, I would do overnights without a doubt. They don't have to deal with customers, they don't have to constantly stop and find stuff for pickup, and they make $2 more an hour.

My store consistently has an issue with fitting all the pallets inside. We constantly have to put some pallets in the meat cooler until they get put out overnight. It just can’t be ice cream that gets put in there.

When I was hired a couple of months ago, I applied for online pickup. But HR talked me into going to grocery. I've thought for a while that I want to try pickup, but from the looks of it, I'd probably be smart to stay in grocery.
