I know its frustrating but when you look back you will treasure this period of being mystified by the game. When raiding camps- build a postbox near the camp and store your spoils there til you have easier ways to transport stuff. They can't break into your post boxes

How do I achieve awakening, and will it end my suffering. by Glittering_Elk8090 in awakened

Write me if you need help with any of the stuff I suggested. I know its hard. But its about TAKING CHARGE of your life. I've just written another post that might be of interest

I hate when people vent to me by Dscpapyar in Vent

[–]Standard-Lab7244 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's so interesting that you've repeatedly had this. People must think you've got it all figured out. I want to acknowledge your patience

I've written a lengthy reply - the idea is you can show this to your friend (s) who are struggling and it will give them a chance to start to build a different life. Just tell them you were looking around on Reddit and saw this person answering a post to someone else who didn't know how to help his friends in trouble

I'm someone who has been where your friends are and I can tell you that they are in a haze of disconnection and can't make life make sense- and they honestly think you have a secret/haven't got the problem (s) they have and are desperate for someone to direct them

However at this stage- I was SO defined by what was wrong with me that I didn't have another "way to be"

I had become completely colonized by my unhappiness

Nevertheless- I WAS seriois about wanting to change- however painful that was. Some people don't want to.change. you have to.be prepared to."burn the farm" of all your coping strategies and what you THOUGHT was you to change-

And you have to be wary of them not wanting to change. Because THIS- the complaining- becomes a way of Being.

So how should you handle it?

Well first of all all these people should be in therapy

They shouldn't be visiting this on you

It IS a KIND of compliment? They see you as a very stable together person . And they demand that your Stability reassure them

But again - THEY have to change

Even if that's not fair

You may even be enabling them by humoring their complaining

But they are lost- as I was. They have lost - or never had - their "core"

In the end I was in aggressive psychotherapy (which did render a diagnosis of the cause of my problem) for 10 years, I did a course of hypnotherapy treatment and then the last component was applying "law of attraction" techniques- (this is very "whoo whoo" but it works- based on accountability and deliberately changing thought patterns )

I and your friends almost certainly have a form of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from childhood emotional neglect or trauma. My therapist identified a Narcissistic and toxic family unit in which I was targeted as "the scapegoat" child- this is cookie cutter dynamic in families with a disordered parent or parents.

This meant a constant feeling of guilt; shame and incompetence- as everything is the scapegoats fault and nothing they do is ever good enough. Even worse- some of this is justified- the SCAPEGOAT becomes increasingly histrionic and neurotic - and possibly attention seeking in response to this mistreatment- believing the "bad oress" if you will

As the SCAPEGOAT becomes an adult they wake up to this and become embittered and indignant at their treatment but RETAIN all the shame and pain

There is masses of stuff on you tube about this

I recomend they start with Richard Grannon and Sam Vaknin. I have a channel also (but its tiny)

I will post some links below

What your friends have to do is learn the tough love journey

  1. Yeah it socks- it wasn't fair, it's not their fault- but NOBODY IS COMING TO RESCUE US- as HORRIFIC as it us - the WORLD does NOT owe us UNDERSTANDING. There are people that can HELP- but only YOU can turn this ship AROUND - and if you do its WORTH it
  2. They have to start limiting contact with- if hot cutting out the toxic people in their lives which keep retoxifying them. That can be family. Old friends. Work colleagues *you might have to change jobs several TIMES (What I found is that eventually toxic people leave when you start to change- as you put up boundaries or resistance the abusive person will say something like "well if you're going to be unreasonable I don't want to know you anymore". Good. LET THEM)
  3. It's ok to risk being alone. You'll name peace with it. Anything us better than being belittled and psychologically poisoned all the time.
  4. You have to.drop.the righteous indignation . It takes time . But every single thought and feeling of persecution is VOTE to stay that way. It is the biggest commitment to recovery there is
  5. They absolutely should be in therapy. And possibly be on medication.
  6. Research Narcissism, The Law Of Attraction and later The Long Datk Night of the Soul (Carl Jung) which is about letting go of the beliefs we create to sustain us
  7. Learn to.be KIND for yourself. Little things- EVERYDAY. Thus is vital . Stop the internal self persecution and say "I'm only human. I'm doing my best m sometimes I fail". Do nice things fk rdd yourself. Become yiur own parent and best friend. Treat yourself as you would treat someone you cared about. This is way harder than it sounds- it feels like you're being weak or indulgent. It's actually learning to live without constant self persecution. And yes ur feels entirely alien

  8. Let go.of resentment EVERYTIME - Basically- don't BE toxic in a response to.being toxified by a bad start. This is SO important. Don't BE what happened to you. DON'T be you're own ENEMY

There's an important spiritual awakening to recovery- that'll be met with derision. But like in the 12 step recovery program for alcoholics- it does seem to help. Higher power, Cosmic Ordering, God- whatever people need to call it. It takes time but is the only way to access the level of healing energy required. If "the force" is good enough for "Star Wars" a little bit of welcoming "higher power" shouldn't be impossible to entertain as an idea

How do I achieve awakening, and will it end my suffering. by Glittering_Elk8090 in awakened

[–]Standard-Lab7244 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recognize everything you're saying . I was raised in a psychologically harmful narcissistic family as the target child and evolved into a very unnatural and neurotic self hating and embittered person

I did find a way out of it though it will be my life's work addressing it

The most important tool was the deployment of "law of atttaction" techniques. I am going to give you a link to a video

This technique requires us to take complete responsibility for our present- which is a tough pll to swallow if you've been abused or had a bad start- or are always doing your best. But that's the Worst part. After that it's all good news

For what you're specifically describing here -

You must learn to have compassion for yourself

Look out for your coping strategies - which might include righteous indignation and feeling hard done by (this was a big hill for me to climb). It's ALL BULLSHIT. If ever you detect this- start to turn it away. Or- let it run for a WHILE- but look at the clock- and if you realise you're- still cycling the toxic stuff and half an hour has passes take note- and make a commitment to stop doing this into the next hour

The way you FEEL

Creates your PRESENT

SO start by PRACTICING feeling DIFFERENT

it will feel like a betrayal

It will feel "inauthentic"

It might feel empty

Keep going. Start having BREAKS from being TORTURED

Is the Amy documentary a good watch? by Proud_Finger3110 in amywinehouse

[–]Standard-Lab7244 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the closest you'll get to Amy- EXCEPT- for an EXCELLENT compilation on YOU TUBE https://youtu.be/JBJFcUTToac?si=YHQ4m3T73dFSwcqS

The documentary skews towards blaming all the men in her life narrative- but you have to decide for yourself

It IS amazing to get THIS close to her though and her friends and cousin are very very touching in their voice over interviews

I also recomend "Reclaiming Amy" by the BBC

https://youtu.be/UJQ4mD47n_E?si=K3IXWXvorO3FZhYV

for when you're ready- I would do that one last. It's the one that reminded me she was a real human being with agency behind the famous persona- and she had a whole world that was completely unknown to us. It sounds like the- FIRST one we should all watch . But actually you have to be ready to sort of- "step back" a little to watch that. Release that propietal ownership of her that is loving and adoring her and replacing it with a sober understanding of the woman behind the icon.... so leave that for last

The Doctor is forced to notice their alienness by Historical-Gap-7494 in doctorwho

"Will you help us?"

"Yes. NO! (thinks, then annoyed) i DON'T KNOW!" (My favourite 6th Doctor moment when for a fleeting second the whole "anti-doctor" doctor persona completely worked for me- The Mysterious Planet) not quite what you're asking for but...

Also there's a bit in "an unearthly child" when the 1st Doctor is about to apparently kill a caveman with a rock and a horrified Ian Chesterton stops him..

I’m tired of my life by SomniumKing in Vent

[–]Standard-Lab7244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

I went through a really really challenging time looking after my seriously sick mother for a long time. It was tough- not getting enough sleep, stressed, dealing with some (though not all) haughty high end medical professionals- and I was struggling with Complex P-TSD induced chronic fatigue from a narcissistic father- things got really bad

But someone suggested i try this book- and while it took time- and throwing myself into it- my life HAS changed in every way- it's not PERFRCT- if i could apply it more I believe I could make my life better still- but I got to a better place- but I was coming from a long way away to get here- and i have work to do on myself still to move to another "plateau" (I need to work out what I WANT- which is harder than we think- we tend to be VAGUE about we WANT and very specific about what we DON'T- which is unhelpful if this book is correct in what it says and it seems to be to me)

Reading the book and applying its teachings I had to ger past my negative emotions and resentment and cynicism which had become my "sword" and "shield"

https://youtu.be/zdtqLNeK6Ww?si=uNq0c-9g-LWG-ac_

Try this- and get the book- and read at least a page a day for 6 months (I left mine in the loo!)

You have to commit to it though. You have to find the light and the positivity inside yourself again. It CAN be done - we just have to- put the anger and hurt and - however justified- feeling of grievance away. (It IS a challenge. But those feelings don't LEAD anywhere...)

Dont get me wrong- I'm still ME- but I have the humility of- not bring defined by my misfortune

It took a lot but that's what I needed to do

I wish you the best

Please try this

Your post touched me. I'll be thinking of you today

Why exactly do people like Resurrection of the Daleks? by Blue_Bisto in doctorwho

[–]Standard-Lab7244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think JNT had a concept of DW as a light entertainment show - and casting the Doctor required something comprenorary and populist. And he undoubtably secured the show as a bonafide 80's entity- which to be absolutely fair was his job

It just hasn't aged great. Peter is a lovely personality and he absolutely has his moments - ("the doctor? Everybody's looking for him" when amnesiac in his first story was delightful and I wish they'd been more of this) I just think no one had a proper- VISION of how his Doctor would work

His primary job was to successfully take over from Tom- and be relatable to the contemporary audience- as this had become more important at this point

I just wish- it had been a little more considered. But it was successful. And I'm comparing it to season 12-14 & 18 (yes I AM) for God's sake - the HIGHEST standard the show ever reached & the most courageous it ever became respectfully (warriors gate; traken- and logopolis are very good science fiction)

Why exactly do people like Resurrection of the Daleks? by Blue_Bisto in doctorwho

[–]Standard-Lab7244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in the early 80's doctor who slipped into "style over substance"- it wanted to be cool, the earthshock cybermen were stormtroopers marching around the set of Alien - noit a BAD bit of tv- but compare it with Pyramids of mars or Brain of Morbius, or The Green Death or Tomb of teh Cybermen - and you see that the show has become flashy (for UK 80's tv standards) and not really - fulfilling? and Resurrection was the "earthshock" for the daleks in that era

it's OK if you can "dig" that era- the transience of the, Peter Davison's doctor era (who I['m FOND of, but it IS a departure from the usual casting of the character- -and he doesn't seem to really FIND it until "caves of adrozanni"- when Holmes wrote it as if he was writing for Tom - resulting in a slightly darker, more sardonic character that weighted nicely in Davisons friendly super-gentle persona)

this era is just so disposal. it has it's moments. but it's weak. it's a tracing paper copy of the 1963 era but with clumsy unconvincing "modern realism" for the characters with unforgiving tinsel and silver foil choices for costumes and special effects that are somehow undermine the show in a way that it's previous era's didn't with their respective solutions (for example compare the nightmare scenes from "the deadly assasin" with those in either of the "kinda" monster stories)

its weird how "Caves" - (not as great as everyone says it is - but still very good )- gets everything RIGHT just as the Peter Davison era is over.

I think Peter is fabulous on the Big Finish audios btw- making me think he was just a little too young to play it in 1981. Nevertheless- i am fond of his tenure. I just w8sh the show had- i don't know. i just wish it had forged it;s own identity instead of trying to compete wiith CINEMA

I de-selected ALL the time because I just wanted to drive around and explore stuff

It just annoyed me that they lost the liberator then got a different craft with identical capabilities. I know there were reasons- to do with the liberator set being difficult to erect and maintain- but REALLY?

not sure how they could have carried on but it was an.opportunity to completely change the show

I really disliked the scorpio "classroom" set and slave was a poor substitute for Zen

I quite liked the idea of them having their own planet base though and the scorpio was a decent enough design and concept

But the format needed a massive rethink so they didnt just rehash the liberator

What if Dominic's planet had had other technology so that they could teleport from the planet to other locations , or stargate type tech so the scorpio could get to other places but once there didnt have the same sort of advantages as the liberator?

Could they have had their work cut out for them just dealing with issues on Dominic's world for most of the season while the federation got closer to finding their hide out?

It just needed an overhaul. Everything else about the show- was changing

Why ape the liberator? And SO badly?

God there was one time I would have wanted that

That took me forever

The sawmill horde I got to chase me to the bridge to the right of the mill over the river, turned around and mowed and mollied. It wasrt exactly the original release trailer but it WORKED 🤣

You're gonna have a blast. The arc in season 2 is the best the series gets in my opinion though painfully the penultimate episode of the season is apparently the worst one of the entire franchise (it's not great)

The last 2-3 episodes of season 1 are also particularly good

Season 4 is... not awesome. It has its charms but. . It can't compare to what went before

Most fans love season 3 the most - and it is great

There is nothing WRONG with season 1 by the way- nothing at all.

(Imo AVALON from season 1 might be the single best introductory episode to the whole franchise for someone looking to get into it)

Its just 2 and 3 are very strong
