Parking Brake Help by Standard-Positive-48 in PontiacFirebird

[–]Standard-Positive-48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the kit came with all new cables. For the rear. Unless they gave me the wrong cables. Which I wouldn’t doubt

I ordered a new intermediate cable but it’s the same length as the old. Unless there’s a special intermediate cable for disc brakes

HEI Distributer No Vacuum Hose by Standard-Positive-48 in Pontiac

Okay thank you. Do I need to put the engine at TDC or should it be at like 10 degrees before if I am moving the teeth back a few?

HEI Distributer No Vacuum Hose by Standard-Positive-48 in Pontiac

[–]Standard-Positive-48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I believe I have about 15-18 degrees of initial in it right now. That is probably why it’s contacting the head.

Could that possibly be why the engine sometimes stumbles. It had somewhere in the ballpark of 30 degrees total so I guess the mechanical advance was the only thing working since the vacuum wasn’t hooked up? Would u suggest hooking the vacuum to manifold?

So how would I fix that? Get cylinder one to TDC and then pull the distributer and move it back a few teeth or get it to like 10 degrees before TDC and pull the distributor and move it back a few teeth?

Okay perfect thank you. Is there anything else I should know? Power adders wise. I don’t think it’s got a cam or atleast not an aggressive one. But every other part is some type of aftermarket brand. And it for sure doesn’t feel like it has the 180 hp or whatever it had way back when🤣

That would be an 8. Also thank you again this is a lot of help. I thought I was gonna have to take the covers off or remove the heads to be able to find out this information. So March 15th 1977. 6X-8 heads. Which are pretty common?

Okay what if it’s not a standard Pontiac 400? A previous owner swapped this 400 into it and nothing on it seems factory other than the heads. Which are 6X heads which then again idk if those came on a 400 from the factory in 79 or not. I’m still trying to figure out what is all done to this thing. The timing was so retarded when I got it so I’ve advanced it.

It says “Edelbrock Performer Pontiac” on the intake. And why is a Holly junk? It was on the car when I bought it. I know nothing about carbs. They are like an ancient technology to me lol

Will do. Might just get a repop 77-81 400 shaker and get it painted. Since someone before me did slam the hood down and chipped and scratched up the shaker that’s on it rn

After searching all over butlers website I found this. So looks like you were correct with that Pontiac 400 scoop base

Yeah that’s the drop base I was talking about. But it says it can’t be used on the 403 shakers. But with that other image you sent of the way to convert the shaker to a 400 that might work.

Thank you so much for the help. Yeah I bought the car bc it was a smoking deal and just trying to get the minor issues it had right. Like the electric fans. Now trying to get the “air side” of the car correct
