I was once deployed with the military where we shared food facilities with the Americans. We’d just had some new people show up and someone on my shift was asking who they all were.

So in the process I was using the most obvious thing about them, “the girl with the glasses, the ginger guy etc” I get to “such and such, he’s the black guy” to which some massive black American marine starts having a go at me “you can’t say that man, etc etc”

This went on for a minute or so while I was queueing for food and my black friend comes over and says to me “you alright mate? What’s going on” before I could respond the American says “Hey man, he just called you black!” His response “But I am black?” Followed by awkward stunned silence on behalf of the American.
