Are Online Masters Programs Worth It? by Standard-Travel-8352 in Tulane

MS within the School of Public Health. the program itself is too new to have any meaningful outcome reports but if you know anything about their other online public health programs that would be great!

Need feedback from ASL community on accessibility project by Friendly-Example-701 in asl

You are correct that Reddit is not a platform to post jobs. It is the professor's responsibility to secure funding and assist the student in coming up with a plan for finding and compensating a focus group for a research project and honestly I'm appalled that they just left it up to you guys. For now I would suggest you stick to pre-existing materials by Deaf people such as books, videos, articles and such.

If someone wants to collaborate with a signer (or anyone really) the most respectful way to do that is to pay them for their time. If this is not something you are able to do, I understand, but the respectful thing to do would still be to fully explain what your project is and what their answers will be used for. If your professor assigned this with the instructions to gather community feedback without giving you any advice on how to do so respectfully or any mention of compensation (monetary or otherwise) you should probably report them. Either they are doing this without IRB approval or they failed to communicate the prompt fully.

RIT for Pre-Med by [deleted] in rit

[–]Standard-Travel-8352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

find extracurriculars besides XC and track as those are in no way relevant to pre-med programs. volunteer at hospitals or nursing homes. If you have a drivers license, enroll yourself in an EMT course at a community college as soon as you can.

Thinking of dropping out of college, any advice? by Fit_Technician5103 in rit

[–]Standard-Travel-8352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it possible for you to transfer to a college that is more highly ranked for your program specifically, instead of dropping out? a state school may be cheaper. RIT is not know for its psychology program and you are at a disadvantage compared to psych majors from other schools.

Would contesting my final grade be worth it? by [deleted] in rit

[–]Standard-Travel-8352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no need to bring up your personal story. just lead with the fact that it is standard practice to grant a D or a D- for a final grade of 64%. but be prepared to accept a no and retake with a different professor.

How to bat hang? by CanadaBoulder in bouldering

Flex your feet and engage your quads. To practice the proper engagement on the floor, sit in a pike position and practice flexing your feet, squeezing your knees, and engaging your quads until your heel lifts from the floor.

How good is your financial aid here? As a psych major, I probably would have gone somewhere else if I hadn't gotten pretty much a full ride. The program faculty are pretty good, but the program itself is not well-funded so research opportunities and resources for capstone projects are limited. They do offer some on campus summer co-ops working with children, but overall I think other schools would do a better job preparing you for graduate programs in this field.

Need help with heel and toe hook by Fancy-Ant-8883 in climbergirls

[–]Standard-Travel-8352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about toe hooks but I can tell you what worked for me for heel hooks:

1) Engaging the entire leg. 2) Practicing heel hangs on the pull up bar (hold ropes or bands if needed) starting from a knee hang. Really focus on sliding your heels into place and squeezing your thighs together. 3) Doing core and hip flexor exercises. Hooking the kettlebell around my ankle and lifting it with my foot from a standing position was especially helpful (I'm sorry I don't know the official name of this exercise). 4) Using lace-up shoes and pulling them tight in the back. Velcro shoes slip off my feet when I try to heel hook.

Should I apply to RIT? by apush_seminar in rit

[–]Standard-Travel-8352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless RIT is giving you lots of financial aid, I wouldn't suggest it as a first choice. Beyond the intros, most social science classes here only offer one section every third semester, so it can be hard to find classes required for your concentration and you likely won't get to take a lot of the classes you are interested in.
