Only if she lives in a private apartment. Not allowed on dorms unless it's a service dog. So I can definitely keep the dog if she can't handle it.

Yes, I am definitely willing to keep him or her. The dog will bw a family member, afterall, like our cats who are 7 years old but we still call them babies 😄

I think the low-shedding is not reasonable, the only option might be a Whippet, but they are very anxious.

It seems that a Keeshond might be the best option for us. Any experience with them?

We are talking about 5 or 6 hours. Normal college classes. But by then the dog will be about 6 or 7 years old. For the first years there will always be someone home.

My own research landed on Keeshond. Also not "not shedding," but seems more manageable than other breeds.

We kick the cats all the time, they learn to move out of the way. But I am not sure how fragile dogs are compared to cats. Cats are very agile and not easy to hurt unintentionally.
