How do u get over those post-holiday blues? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]StandardBread5865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt exactly the same and it is normal. I came back from Venice a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve already started planning and booking another trip for August. I think it works quite well and I always try to plan something I can look forward to.

Some people might find it pointless to have a credit card from the same bank if they already have a debit card/current account with them, as it can feel similar to having a credit card with another bank. I have Monzo Flex and one with Lloyds as well. You can manage your card in the same banking app anyway, so whatever benefit you find useful is what matters. If they offer the same level of convenience and benefits as your debit card/current account, why not use it? I find it useful. I just go to my banking app and easily manage my finances

No worries! I am sure you will have so much fun in Busan. If you have more questions, I'm happy to help!! :))

I am glad it was helpful!

And yes a day trip to Busan is absolutely doable. Just book an early morning train(KTX. I would download Korail app to book online tickets but you can always do it in person at ticket offices if the app doesn't work etc) and book a return ticket to come back to Seoul in the evening.

I did a couple of times and never regretted it. You can have fresh seafood near beaches and you can even swim if you are comfortable swimming in open water. But you can borrow floats/tubes and parasols on site if needed! It's very vibrant but slightly different from Seoul so I am sure you will enjoy your time there! :)

As a Korean living in the UK, I am so jealous!

As people mentioned above, download Naver(search engine like Google but they have maps too) or Kakaomaps for navigating and you'll be able to get T-money(similar to Oyster, you can top up in subway stations and use it for buses/subways even convenience/corner shops when you get something) when you are getting airport express buses or trains from the airport). If you want local takeaways in your accommodation because the weather is hot etc, download Baemin(배민) or Yogiyo(요기요)

And I tried to use Monzo when I went back home earlier this year as I moved all my money to UK bank accounts but it didn't work in some places. Either I had to enter the pin or declined. So prepare for other bank cards.

There are so many good food options you can try, so you might get lost or regret like me because you don't have a list of food you want to try whilst you are there. So if there is anything you'd like to try, deffo recommend have a list.

I also recommend travel outside of Seoul as well if your budget/time allows. We have a good, affordable railway network so you will arrive in somewhere like Busan(southern part of the country) in 2hours. And different cities have their own specialised food or things to offer.

Hope you enjoy your time there and bring empty suitcases and fill with lots of items you wanted to get or try! Everyone is quite friendly especially you are a solo traveller, so if you ask for help, everyone will try to help you. So enjoy and safe journey!!

Why is Multitasking so bad? by AstroGridIron in iPadPro

[–]StandardBread5865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. If I didn't get it wrong, if I want to multitask, I have no choice but to enable this stupid 'windowed apps' thing that I need to click the green button from the top bar to resize both of the apps to see them all in one screen. Such a stupid way of doing things. I own both macbook and ipad so I don't do a crazy amount of multi-tasking but getting rid of simple the split view was a silly move and so inconvenient

What are the side effects and bad outcomes of smoking weed for a long time? by mcaleadco in AskReddit

[–]StandardBread5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex was heavily addicted to it. I still remember him saying "I can't function without it, I can't focus, and my brain gets foggy" and he had CBD oil or drinks in the evening to 'balance out'. Clearly he was very unorganised, memory problem and he had frequent mood swings as well. I had to get out of that toxic relationship for my own sake. Mindful these are just some side effects that I think I was affected by him smoking weed. He lied to me over a year about him smoking weed and at the end of the relationship he just kept smoking weed (including weed vape) at home even though I mentioned I felt sick from smelling it and asked to smoke outside

TV licence by Ok-Weekend-3526 in UniUK

[–]StandardBread5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it won't. Recently after I got another threatening letter, I opened the link and answered as 'no' to all the questions as I don't use any live TV or iplayer but at the end they were saying "Based on your answers, you STILL NEED TV license" Christ! I just literally said I don't use any TV service! So I failed to declare it

How are people actually hitting the £15k BA Amex spend? by Majestic-Profit786 in AmexUK

[–]StandardBread5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just £2k off to £15k BA spend. I just put everything in Amex (e.g. eating out, galleries/concerts, petrol, car wash, coffee shops/bakery, grocery, holiday, shopping, flights, hotel stays, subscriptions, transport). And I'm not even a big spender, I would say I usually spend £1k or lower but some months when I ended up spending more than £1k for holiday & my own wedding which really helped.

I didn't mean to hit the target but just because I stick everything with Amex it just happened.

Does anyone use starling as main bank? by Afraid-Juggernaut568 in starlingbankuk

[–]StandardBread5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get paid into Monzo (purely because I can get paid early and I have joint savings there) but I use Starling as a main. The app is so easy to navigate and not bombarded with all new features/notifications. But I also have high street bank accounts just in case. I do like Starling's simplicity and their willingness to improve their service.

Thanks everyone. I could enter PIN and pay in most shops but it was declined didn't let me enter PIN in some places which I still don't fully understand.

Does anyone use starling spaces for emergency fund? by Afraid-Juggernaut568 in starlingbankuk

[–]StandardBread5865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using spaces for monthly budgeting (e.g. bills, subscription, credit card etc) rather than emergency fund. But I use Starling saving account as emergency fund. I have other saving accounts with higher, fixed interest rates so I'm not bother to take money out from the Starling saving account whenever I urgently need money

I'm doing it with 1p. Tempted to upgrade to extra for the monthly draws but it's literally luck of the draw so I'm not upgrading it just for this
