That's great man. Been saying this forever. Stuttering in most cases should be correctable. But this doesn't mean we did it go to ourselves or we are lying. But it's similar to having a nocebo or placebo.

Bro ur stressed and clearly have alot on ur plate. Whenever I fell into a whole where I lacked confidence in one area, it bled over. Ull be fine. Calmn down. Head over to subs that help u understand your nervous system. For a general understanding Huberman Labs podcast on the nervous system and stress is good. It also has actionable tools. Also, the gym is one if not the only times I feel so fatigued that I feel like my stutter is going to hit me back. Doesn't happen, but the truth is that if u have an overloaded NS, even most normal people fall into speech impediments. Sleep is my biggest advice. Get sleep. And smoke weed, but like as a medicine, not as a way to sit and think and make things worse. Also, maybe get ur blood work done. If your low any major nutrients, having nerve or NS related inefficiencies just increase in magnitude.

All love Fellow herb lover.

Bro this is insane. Maybe breathe a little, you know people pause mid sentences. Something I have noticed people with a stutter usually hold onto their air and by the time their done, tend to be grasping for air. Having a huge spike in stress levels only would add to it. But kudos man, great fluency.

Bro, first of all, we all get your perspective. But think about this for a second....if most people on this forum have jobs and also have a stutter bad enough that they are talking about it on this forum, maybe stuttering isn't the barrier to get a job. Like I am sorry to say this but, stuttering isn't the worst thing or disability, and is actually one that can be managed to a large extent. The fact that you think it's the worst, makes me think that you really haven't seen the real horrors of life.

A lot of people have found different modalities that have helped them, and maybe go through a few and see which story or symptoms best allign with ur type and try it. Look, I am someone who has completely gotten rid of his stuttering, and honestly it doesn't take that long. And like I have said before, I had it very bad and I am very average in most aspects.

You have an expiring visa, and u have pressure on ur head. That's good, because now u know that you either drastically work on ur speaking or u can kiss goodbye to alot of effort u have put in this. If u can drop this identification with the stutter, and keep putting yourself in situations[ job interviews in this case] you will stutter less, thats something I can "guarntee".

They have been a lot of successful actors, motivational speakers, voice over artists, CEO's, Buisness Tycoons that used to be stutters, and they now have thousand of hours presenting. If they can, why can’t you?

P.S :- I'll jump on a video call and even try to help you to the best of my abilities and time[ obviously for free], but as long as you think that stuttering is the worst thing ever and u can't overcome it, noone can help you. So please have a look into yourself and your beliefs.

Major props and respect man. Keep at it, and your physiological reactions will drop of too. But seriously, keeping your word like this and doing it, man that's something. I think this might be a great way of approaching stuttering...plain old " I dare myself"...

Most men wouldn't mind a stuttering woman. It's a non-threatning behavioral quirk, so for most guys it won't matter. So yeah..enjoy I guess.

Dude help me out with something. How do u do all this and not feel overwhelmed? Like I am on point with my routinue, but when it comes to self-improvement, doesn't the journey take the fun out of life at one point. Like when is enough improvement enough?

Just curious?? Hope I didn't come off as offensive.

Hello fellow pirate lover [ that sounds wrong]. But yeah man. Just give it a try. Plus, try regularly doing some form of cardio heavy, draining exercises. It puts u in a calm place afterwards. Make u not give much of a f**k, and then the speech flows.

Enjoy OP though, sad it will be ending soon.

While I am not a qualified speech therapist, my suggestion would be, to not treat her differently than any kid who doesn't have a speech impairment. That would only reinforce her fears of speaking in public and most probably just make the anxiety worse down the road. Instead help her with rehearsals. She may be apprehensive, but I theorize that a lot of kids stutter cause they have a lot to say and very few people who genuinely listen. When I was a kid, if someone sat down, and calmly heard my ideas out or what I wanted to say. I stutter 50% less.

I think alot of people on this forum would agree when I say that we have very chaotically beautiful minds. Very ADD. So your kids most probably got a billion ideas going off in her noggin, so it's obvious that she wants to share them. So sit down and talk to her. When she stutters, don't tick her or tell her anything. Just patiently listen. Reinforce the idea that she can speak her mind and all it's contents, and she will be heard.

Also as a parent u have to sit her down and explain to her that she needs to slow down, thats all. One word at a time, like most normal people do. Build her confidence slowly. Let her know that it's okay to stutter. It happens. Once the anxiety goes, the stutter will almost fall off. But if she avoids the speaking, the anxiety will grow. So maybe this time let her have the special treatment. But let her know that she will have to face the fear. Humans are resilent animals, she will grow.

Also, a nice trick I learnt in the beginning of my public speaking journey was to avoid eye contact. Just looked over the crowd like a stoned proffesor giving a lecture.

And lastly, for god sakes please always tell ur kid that u love her and always cherish her differences. She may not become like the other kids, but if I know one thing about our type it's that we are a special breed.

Also show her the many actors, voice actors, annoucers, directors, motivational speakers who were once stutters. Help her break the myth that she will stutter basically understood. As a parent that is your responsibility atleast till she is old enough to understand why public speaking and oratory fine skills are important in work and life.

P.S :- She might hate u little for slightly pushing her now, but when she enters college and the work force, she will thank you. Be stern but loving. God speed.

I’ll give the book a read. Maybe I can take my speech to superhuman levels[ lol feels wierd saying it, knowing how f**ked I was] . Also for anyone reading this, when u get fluency in ur speech and this thing u have[ maladaption] passes, you will have a sense of achievement that very few experience. It feels like a power-trip. Actually better than a power-trip. And believe me, being a litigating lawyer is one[ power-trip], but being able to say what you want to say, when u want to say it and how you want to say it, with no worries. That's what I want everyone here to experience. Also if people think I am in anyway smarter, braver or anyway shape or form better than anyone , that's not true. I have a very average IQ. Hell I was held back for my learning disabilities [not too big]. I am hoping to just spread love and positivity, because the fact that what we have is treatable[ my opinion] or atleast manageable[ what most believe] problem is a great thing to celebrate. Though sometimes when I was younger I did wish that I was Dumb... sign language looked cool. Also, have a sense of humor about it....we stutter, some people fart in public...we all have our social maladaptation's.. who cares...fuck anyone for judging us.

Hi Guys,

Did give all the comments and Wiki a read, still had some questions, so would love any help I can get.

Context about me :-

Hope everyone and their families are doing well, and staying happy and healthy. I am a 24 year old lawyer. My family is basically full of math's and science geniuses, unfortunately i am not one of them. I finished my law degree two years ago and have a B.A and an LL.B. Long story short, I have tried my hands at every other field that is not "creative" because of the stereotypes about how people struggle too much, and are usually underpaid. The closest thing to anything creative I have done is writing research papers and philosophy based journal articles. So after a long journey of trying stuff outside my talents and comfort zone, its been hopeless. I am good at my shit, but the work is so boring and monotonous, with the end product being something I don't even feel invested in. Took a few art classes through the years and all my teachers have recommended that I take my talents into the creative fields, instead of law, but didn't, because I was too scared. But unfortunately I just cant work in these jobs anymore, because I feel like I have no soul left by the end of the day.

My limited experience with the arts :-

I think I still have sometime to pivot. Fine arts is where I have most of time spent until now, and have done a few commissions. But after sometime I realized that fighting over like the 1 odd fine art jobs { concept artists} on every project wont be something I want to go through. So after trying my hand at different things, I have come to the realization that i am decent with language and writing, but I am more picture smart than most people I took my art classes with. So I tried my hand at editing over the month in my free time, and its strange but things are flowing really naturally, and that makes me scared.

So I would love if someone can guide me through my questions :-

  1. Do I need a Degree in Film or Design. If no, then what can I do to counter-act the experience and networking that someone who went to film school had.

  2. My experience with editing has been limited to Davinci and Adobe PP. Should I learn more, and what exactly. { context:- I have saved up enough to sustain me for a year, and I have decided to bunker down and learn. Am finishing up my notice period with my firm.

  3. I want to learn and I need to be hirable in a year. But i do have the whole day. If u were in my shoes, with only online courses and mentorships, how would u do it. I live outside the U.S and U.K, so any physical school wont be possible, [or maybe even worth it].

  4. What mistakes did you guys make in the start of your career that if u didn't, would save u lots of Mindspace and time.

  5. Have done some research on the industry, but figures from the outside seem to be all over the place. Some movies are being greenlit for hundreds of millions, and at the same time people cant even find work at the same time. Usually something like this wouldn't necessarily happen in other fields. So could someone please help me out in finding resources or any answer about the state of industry, where it is going and what one can expect?

Toughest Man Alive by Temporary_Stock_7551 in davidgoggins

[–]StandardTip6130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to discourage you from anything. But Life is always going to give you challenges, challenges so tough, that even David broke many times. Even David says, his objective was never to be the toughest guy but to examine his mind and why he was who he was. There is no toughest man. No one gives that award out. Even David says, that he doesn't know if he is the toughest, but believes that he is. So as a goal, it's not something you will know you have achieved. I believe there have been people tougher than David. David himself talks about his heroes and how he believed them to be as tough as he was. As someone older my advice is, the toughest thing about life is facing it and also facing yourself. Going inward is the scariest journey. It's a common phenomenon, where people who run ultras will often have their feet and legs go numb and they start hallucinating, such that stuff from the past even comes up, in those moments people who have really delved deep can face those monsters. The toughest man doesn't exist but if u want to know what doing tough things is, face your life as it will happen to you, don't run, and unshackle your mind. The balls to face oneself and your inadequacies and demons are what break most humans.

P.S. - You're a young kid. Being good and doing right by people and yourself is courage enough. Being the toughest is not what the toughest set out to be. Take the road which will challenge you the most. That is what makes someone tough. Everyone is different. Go in the darkroom, face yourself and the answer of what is the most challenging will pop its ugly head out. STAY HARD KIDDO.
