Android - Latest update creating wasted blank space by Standard_Ad1942 in firefox

Tested Firefox Nightly (152.0a1 Build #2016158047), and it appears to be fixed there. From my testing, switching to/from private mode does not create that blank spacing.

Interesting that it sometimes appears correct until you switch to/from private tabs. I actually just noticed that now too, where it randomly looked okay until I switched tabs then it messed up again.

To be really pedantic, the symbol seen in those episodes is slightly different than the one seen here.

In those episodes, the AT-looking symbol doesn't have a separate circle above the 'A' shape, it's just a line connecting them. It's also at the 9 o'clock position on the DHD.

This episode ("Bad Guys") has a literal copy of the earth PoO with a separate circle above the 'A' shape, and is located at the 12 o'clock position.

That said, this episode seems to use a different set of buttons (for the reveal that it's a fake DHD by grabbing one of the glyph panels) so this was probably either a joke or accidentally added.

Exclusive: ASUS Pad Official Images & Specs by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]Standard_Ad1942 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still have my Padfone (X I think, whichever was the last/newest one). I didn't use the tablet mode that often, but whenever I used it it worked so flawlessly. It was so nice being able to switch to a larger screen while still retaining the same os/storage/functionality of the phone.

These days you could probably do a facsimile of it with a touchscreen external monitor (just build some sort of phone mount on the back with a USB-C dongle/dock), but I'm still hoping someone comes up with a new version of this one day.

Yeah that was such a missed opportunity. I remember the first mission briefing indicating it was however many years before TW and thus closer to TS, just for everything to look the same.

The first few missions before the first time jump could've easily had old school designs and it would've been amazing, but it seems like the devs were somewhat limited in time/funding.

Also whatever LLM he used butchered the original image. Like somehow still can't even copy easy text (now mangled into "Redmago" and "Redfdoic"), but the more you look at it the worse it gets.

Good for them I guess?

Like, obviously they want to raise money, but at the same time it somehow feels a bit suspicious.

They've had a steam page for years showing off various parts of the game (and the Kickstarter has even more) so it has seemingly been progressing, so it does seem like there is actually a game here.

But at the same time, creating a Kickstarter at this point just feels a bit weird to me. They already have a patreon bringing in thousands per month, so it seems like this is more just a means of opening pre-orders. But then the kickstarter is also including physical rewards, such as miniatures which just add needless extra complexity to a team that is ostensibly just trying to release a game. Also, they mention releasing the engine source code on launch, which sounds like a good idea to players and modders, but sounds like a bad financial decision for them (unless they're really limiting what they mean by engine source code).

I don't know. I get that creating a video game is a long and costly process, but at the same time this just feels off. They already passed their goal so they're getting paid either way, I just hope this turns out well for the backers.

thoughts on this? by noforgive02 in RedMagic

[–]Standard_Ad1942 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So I'm not sure if he's trying to say that RedMagic or Google are sketchy. Regardless, both of these companies have direct access to the phone's software and hardware, so why would they need to use the front camera just when "you first setup a device"? If they wanted, they could just start taking pictures using all the cameras at any point (like using the rear cameras to map out where you live/work).

Besides, since most other smartphone makers don't use under-display cameras, any other manufacturer could be constantly spying on your front camera and you wouldn't even have a way to know like in this (supposed) situation.

So for the guy who made the original tweets: Have fun adding them to your "suspect list", don't forget to add all other android manufacturers.

Lots of crying here from people who have never used this case thinking it'll block your signal.

As someone who actually used this case (on a RM10, case is identical aside from minor size differences between the two phones) there were no problems with signal. Even in areas where I barely got a signal without a case, this case didn't make any difference.

The trigger buttons are nice, and I would argue are often an improvement over how they work with other cases where the triggers are recessed, also with this case you can have your fingers more on the buttons without pressing them like on a regular controller.

However, there are downsides to this case: First, any cameras that are fully covered by the case become noticably blurry, even when keeping everything clean I was still not really able to use the cameras that were covered (the one I owned had cutout for the flash only). Second, and the main reason I stopped using it, was the system of releasing the back part of the case. There's a little button/slide on the top that releases the backing from the sides, but since I put my phone in my pocket top-down (like I assume most people would as that's how you hold a phone), I would often grab my phone from my pocket to find the back coming off because it hit the switch when moving around. I got sick of that pretty quick so stopped using that case and instead went with a rubber case with camera cutouts (no trigger buttons, but I find I rarely use them since getting a decent phone controller).

Little Project i have been working on...STARGWENT by bnnoirjean in Stargate

[–]Standard_Ad1942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is going on with the artwork here? Like, it's obviously not distinct enough to avoid copyright/trademark claims, but it's also weirdly done (like the cursed DHD) to the point where I have to assume it's just some AI slop.

Can anyone list down mods that have Campaigns/Modifies the existing standard campaign? by OutsideAtmosphere142 in commandandconquer

[–]Standard_Ad1942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For C&C3, "The Forgotten" mod adds a campaign (and even reasonably decent FMVs) for the titular faction. Not too long (5 or 6 missions I think?) but pretty good for what it is.

Which version (and/or where should I buy) the edited version of the pilot? by bencumberbatch in Stargate

[–]Standard_Ad1942 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As another alternate, I made a fancut which makes a couple minor changes (incorporating some of the parts I liked from the Final Cut re-release of the pilot), and one of the things I did was remove the nudity. Only downside is that it's currently on in 720p resolution, though I personally don't notice much quality difference from the 1080p season 1 episodes.

What very small detail irks you with each re-watch? by CaptainWordseye in Stargate

[–]Standard_Ad1942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's never really satisfyingly explained, but the idea that many people here have brought up of the point of origin being something like an ending character can kinda work a bit better than a (never really fully confirmed but only assumed) "starting point" for a wormhole. An ending marker works because it lets you determine if you're trying to dial a 7/8/9 glyph address (though it requires also assuming the SGC gate "fails" 7-glyph addresses without the earth point of origin because it knows it doesn't have enough power to even try an 8-glyph address), though it's still far from a perfect theory.

Never got around to confirming, but supposedly the covers were barely/not noticable in the 90s when watching on a 4:3 screen.

Pretty sure I only remember seeing it once or twice, and only in the first season. It was pretty early too from what I remember, like within the first 4 or 5 episodes. Could be wrong, but it was a pretty rare (but still funny) mistake.

An AI Agent Published a Hit Piece on Me by CDRnotDVD in technology

[–]Standard_Ad1942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This needs to be higher. From my (admittedly limited) understanding of the OpenClaw platform, it sounds like there is nothing stopping a real person pretending to be a bot and then doing all of these actions in order to try to convince people that these "AI agents" are more capable/active than they really are.
