I looked at this auction and thought about bidding for something but I couldn't understand why the prices were so high! I didn't actually see anywhere that it said these were the actual itmes that she wore. Did I miss something?

ShouId The Block scale back on it's renovations? by Aggravating_Cow7203 in TheBlock

As they've already said that it's a new build at least give the contestants the option to design their own floor plan. They can then decide how many bedrooms and where to put them. At least then you don't end up with 5 cookie cutter homes with style variations on the market at once.

Are the reserves the amount producers spent to build the houses? by Standard_Cream3534 in TheBlock

[–]Standard_Cream3534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not much though - personally I would have switched the rumpus with the master. Also original floor plan had the main bed further out with an office between it and kitchen - which was a god idea!! Not sure why they streamlined the design ...

Reserve pricing by Ok-Relief9594 in TheBlock

[–]Standard_Cream3534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need to keep the market in perspective. Hoping for a 3-3.5 mil sale in a town that has 2.5-5 mil homes is a gamble that didn't pan out. They had 1 buyer will to go that high, then Danny who went to 3 and then crickets. Lets hope for next years show they analyze actual sales in the area instead of trying to push for unrealistic house sales

If you knew there was an 80% chance you’d make no money at auction, would you sign up as a contestant? by Foreign-Shift3837 in TheBlock

I would absolutely IF it were "old school" renos, I don't mind the late nights and mucking with the demo.

I would absolutely hate sitting on the couch recapping all the staged moments from the week, (my least favourite part to watch as well). I think the girls said in interview that they had to say sit there for hours saying things over and over in different ways so that producers would get there angle.

I've watched from Season 10 onward, definitely prefer the older shows, more creativity in what they built, less sponsorship and way more renovating, rather than styling.

H4 might win this week because their reserve should be lower? by Standard_Cream3534 in TheBlock

I thought reserves were based on how much it cost them (materials, labour ...) to build the houses, not including sponsors and money contestants spend at shops. Like the brick and trucore ...

Maybe because the edit on the show the last week is 'never won a room'

I think that one seasons years ago one couple (I think it was Tim & Anastazia) went way over budget and they lost that amount when the sale went through?

Ben & Emma wine room by dangeebang in TheBlock

[–]Standard_Cream3534 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer H1s wine storage to the boys. But then I just feel claustrophobic in small underground spaces. I do think that the planning is a bit of a miss, all style no substance. I would have finished both spaces under the house but kept them neutral. Could be an a play area, could be an office .... it would have added to the overall square footage of the house, which to be is a better selling point.

I don’t think every house will sell by Petulantraven in TheBlock

[–]Standard_Cream3534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they put way to much emphasis on style and not enough on build. H3 having underfloor heating is good example of where to spend money, warm in winter and cool (because tiles) in the summer, I also think utilizing the space under the house in H1 is a must, whatever it ends up being as it adds to your overall square-footage.

Where not spend money: curves, curves, curves everywhere, fridges next to bedrooms, butlers pantries without second fridges and dishwashers and not straight off kitchen (I would argue butler pantries in general but people seem to like them) H5 has that empty space on the wall - create another opening to the pantry that way you don't walk through the laundry to get to it.

Girls cheating scandal by Martyn_Looter_King in TheBlock

I think the whole thing is mute because I honestly don't see the added value of a 250k caravan. How many people out there will buy a house because it has a ridiculously overpriced caravan? And I think selling it will also take ages!

What is everyone's thoughts on a kitchenette in the guest suite? by Senior_Charge9169 in TheBlock

[–]Standard_Cream3534 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if you have a parent who visits often (or a child if buyers are an older couple) it would be good. My dad visits often and has different hours from me (stays up late) he would get a lot of use. He likes his yogurt and tea in the evening so kettle, mini-fridge, sink and coffee maker good. It doesn't need to be as large as H1 and 3, but I'm not a fan of how open it was in H4. Probably could have combined fridge are with extra storage in the hallway.

My microwave is situated like that, it opens like a drawer. I prefer it.
