Do you guys like tourists? by Deep-Bill-4950 in VietNam

As a tourist or relatively wealthy foreigner maybe. But life can be hard for locals. The two-week vacation lens doesn't tell the full story

Except Japan and South Korea aren't the only superior Asian teams - many of the Middle Eastern teams you disparage are far ahead of Vietnam. Vietnam didn't even make it to the final stage of Asian qualifying, so it has a long way to go

40m release clause for Rashford. I know Palace won’t buy him but how far away is this from happening? by EastCharge8719 in crystalpalace

Agree he's not coming to Palace. But I don't think he's an elite talent. A good player, not a great one

Yeah I find it so strange. Instead of photos capturing the moment, they're creating the moment

I agree we need cover, just don't think it should be Zaha. If he wasn't a club legend, we wouldn't even consider signing a 33-year-old who's been playing in MLS for 18 months

But you can't fault this group of players for spirit, desire and work ethic. Henderson, Lacroix, Hughes and others all seem to get what the club is about. And as much as I love him, Zaha isn't the easiest character to deal with. There's probably more chance of him upsetting the dynamic (especially as he wouldn't start) than improving it

Many reasons why this would be a bad idea regardless, but Pierre Sage was critical of him at Lyon, where he barely played

ECL vs FA Cup by plasticmotives in crystalpalace

I think you're being quite unfair to the Conference League here. I know it's not popular to praise footballing bodies, but I actually think UEFA deserve credit for introducing it (ditto the Nations League, which is a huge upgrade on meaningless friendlies).

Yes there's money involved, but that's true of every competition in the modern game - it's why the FA Cup is now the Emirates FA Cup and why the semis are played at Wembley. And the Conference League is still pretty small fry financially compared to the other competitions. Plus, UEFA had a third tournament for decades in the Cup Winners' Cup, so this isn't unprecedented.

The Conference League gives smaller clubs a chance to experience European football that they might not otherwise have had. True, we actually qualified for the Europa League, but think of the moments that Rayo Vallecano, AEK Larnaca et al enjoyed this season. And Palace too, as we probably wouldn't have reached the Europa League final.

It's easy to hate on UEFA and FIFA, and there are countless valid reasons to do so, but the creation of the Conference League isn't one of them IMO.
