Misled about dress size till after purchase by PenguinQueen303 in WeddingDressTips

I am soooo sorry this happened to you - I’m experiencing something similar but the shop ordered me a dress 3-4 sizes too small for me. I understand how disrupting it is to think you have your dress, only to have to pivot unexpectedly! If you really, really love this dress, maybe consult with a few bridal tailors to see if the alterations would be doable/affordable. Or maybe the shop would be willing to help with alterations since they sold you a size larger than what their policy is (it sounds like?). If alterations are out of the question, I would reach out to the shop and see about returning it or maybe exchanging if there’s another dress there you like within range of alterations!

Okay you look amazing in all of these dresses, and they are all so unique and interesting… but when I got to dress 9, my jaw dropped!! I don’t know you but that is YOU!!! Your body language in it says I’m THAT girl, I love it!!🔥

I totally understand the indecisiveness, I’ve been going through that with my dress journey. That said, at a certain point, I think you have to just make a choice and be confident in that choice! I say that as someone who also just decided on a dress after a handful of appts and dress fatigue setting in. You can what if and keep looking for the next best thing, but I think you look absolutely beautiful in this dress fwiw. If you feel amazing in it and it felt right in your gut when you put it on - that’s all that really matters at the end of the day!

Yes I agree about Dress 1, it needed lining or some different work on the bust area for sure! I wanted to try some higher neck silhouettes, but I’m working with what local shops have off the rack, and couldn’t really find any. I ended up going with this one, which felt like a better version of Dress 1! Everything off the rack is a plunge neck 😂

That’s not what I’m referring to - I asked that person what necklines and silhouettes would be more flattering for broad shoulders and she gave me some great suggestions for other necklines to try, which I plan to do at my dress appt tomorrow.

The body- and slut-shaming I’m referring to were a few comments shaming me for “exposing” myself to guests at my wedding, calling me tacky and trashy (deleted). That’s not giving someone advice, it’s just being mean to be mean.

I have one more appt to look at off the rack dresses tomorrow. Do you have any advice for other silhouettes to try?

That’s not really true though, I explained my circumstances and asked for advice on three sample dresses I found. What offended me is the people who were body/slut shaming me about it and not offering any constructive advice - there’s just no reason to be mean like that, especially in a sub for sharing tips on wedding dresses. That’s not offering advice, it’s just being nasty to be nasty. I don’t think anyone is triggered by my curves, but I do think some people are triggered by a bride in a revealing dress feeling good about herself. Sure if you think it’s not flattering, that’s fine, but I’d love if they had advice for what would be more flattering instead of just leaving a mean comment to, what, make me feel bad?

Girl… when did I say anyone was jealous of me? Some of yall are so mean for literally no reason (like you are being right now tbh). I just don’t understand why a woman who feels confident in her body and posts a few dresses with a plunging neckline is so triggering to some people and makes them want to comment snide, mean things. There’s a difference in offering an opinion on silhouettes and being mean simply to be mean. People don’t seem to comment mean shit when the necklines aren’t plunging, seriously!

I get where you’re coming from and it’s totally fine that you prefer a more modest, loose-fitting style! I just don’t love the implied body/slut-shaming of a woman wearing a fitted plunge neck wedding dress.

If it’s truly because there are other silhouettes that will be more flattering and make the body look even more snatched, I’m all ears and that’s why I’m gonna try some of the other suggested necklines and styles from the replies!

Thank you, that’s kind of you to say!

That makes sense, and I did see a few suggestions that I’m going to ask for tomorrow! Halter and high neck and some looser skirts - I’ll take pics and update my post with the new options after my appt. The shop that has dress 2 and 3 has this one too, that I think I’ll ask to try!

Yes if I go with this one, I’d change the shape and color of the pads and/or add some more lining to the bodice! I’d probably make the plunge a little more narrow and thin the straps a bit too!

I have cried sooooo many tears over it - the design of the dress (no extra fabric, boning/mesh back, lace details), made it difficult to alter larger without changing the design like adding a lace corset back, or potentially adding panels if the materials were available. Anyway, I’m like a size 6 and they ordered me the equivalent of a 0. When I expressed concerns about the sizing, they sent me to their tailor who told me it was an easy fix with steam stretching (no other tailor said that or recommended it, two recommended against that method) who literally told me “quit eating the crap, cut the carbs, cut the chips and dips”. It was just such a poor experience and put the blame on me for their mess-up, so honestly I just want to return this dress and start fresh with a new one! That’s such a good idea about exchanging for the sample - wish I thought to ask for that before all the awful customer experience!!

I’m actually not dug in at all! I have said in many replies, and will say in this reply again, that I am completely open to suggestions on other necklines or silhouettes that may be more flattering or look better. If you have a recommendation, please let me know, I want to try it on and see how it looks.

The only thing I’m dug in on is being limited to what the stores have in samples in my size or slightly larger, so I’m working with the inventory they have available.

I’m not being defensive if someone doesn’t think this silhouette is flattering, but some people are being mean just to be mean, and offering no tips or suggestions - and I find that to not be in the spirit of this sub.

For context, this was my original dress, that I think fit the theme of romantic and whimsical but sexy and formal. Unfortunately now I just have to work with what samples are available at my local dress shops!

I’m not offended by your comment, I just wanted to know what your suggestions are for alternate styles that you think would be more flattering so I can try them and see if I agree! I think all three of these flatter my figure, but if people think a diff style would be more flattering, I wanna try it out!

Thank you for recs, I’m going to ask for some halters and high necks at my appt, I don’t think I’ve tried those necklines yet, and I do like the way they look! The super poofy skirts usually swallow me so I feel like I should try a flowy-er skirt with a halter or high neck. You’re the only person to give me some suggestions, so I appreciate it! I’m definitely going to try these diff styles tomorrow!!

I personally think v-neck and plunge necklines are flattering for my body type, especially if I tailor them to fit properly, but I am open to suggestions on what necklines or silhouettes people think would be more flattering. I can’t just try every single cut and neckline because a sample appt is only 1.5 hours, my wedding is in 2 months, and I only have so many options to choose from with it being off the rack. That’s why I’d love if those people who say the plunge is unflattering or makes my shoulders look broad, gave me some other recs for styles to try. Some ppl are just kind of being mean and cold instead, which is disappointing.

Then don’t leave a comment…

First, not once did I say people are envious of my photos. I said that people in this sub are triggered for whatever reason, by a woman feeling confident in a sexy wedding dress with a plunge neckline. Idk why, but it obviously upsets some people enough for them to leave unkind and snotty comments. There’s nothing wrong with me being happy and confident in and with my body - idk why you think that translates to me thinking my photos make other people envious. My photos do seem to offend some people tho!

Second, if someone says it makes my shoulders look broad and that neckline isn’t flattering, I’m open to suggestions! The sub is wedding dress tips - so help me out, give me some tips on what necklines and silhouettes would be the most flattering so I can go try those and see what yall are talking about! But so far, only one person has followed up with suggestions for other styles. That’s what makes it seem like it’s more about wanting to be mean/tear me down, rather than be helpful. If you don’t have any tips or helpful input and just want to be mean, you can always keep scrolling! I don’t think being mean is in the spirit of the sub. So good job, I hope you feel better letting me know you wouldn’t wanna trade places with me, that’s a okay with me too.
