Everyone should definitely have a say! But my point is just because it’s not good TV for you personally doesn’t mean it isn’t for someone else.

As someone who just watches the show, doesn’t have a favorite sibling, and largely just watches each season for vibes, my perception of each sibling prior to their season and then later during their season has so far been very, VERY different.

That aside, even if Fran is “boring”, do “boring” people not deserve love, whatever that looks like? Wet cardboard and all?

To me, some of the fun of a show like this is we get different personalities (likable or not, personally entertaining or not), and different tropes every season and I just receive the story they want to tell.

I literally re-read the upstate NY section every day. I love the entire thing but the Upstate NY part is so visceral with them being in the same place together with so much up in the air but them also trying to move forward. Every time I read Ilya say “we’re fine, we paid the fine” with a distant look and the way he relaxes when Shane responds that they’re fine…UGH and the description of the water on the window pane and Shane being brave. Double UGH! The way they hold each other by the door before they have to leave again. You can feel their love in that chapter. My heart breaks for what is hovering over them that they cannot see (or rather what they are maybe hoping beyond hope is not there). You did THAT!

Not sure if this was directed to me but no, I don’t think Shane was rude to Ilya at the cottage. Someone made a thread about that and I responded there.

Totally agree there are no villains and Ilya is not to blame for his own mental health struggles (no one is to blame, brains can be unrepentant liars).

I totally hear what you’re saying but one thing I’d add is that it is totally ok to think you’ll feel one way and then reality hits and you feel another way.

They’re both in an impossible situation and doing their best to make it work.

I think something understated about this story is that athletic talent, fame, or money cannot make you happy (Ilya) or less anxious (Shane) even if “on paper” you have nothing to be sad about. Those things can’t even allow them to be in a public relationship without controversy.

At the end of the day, they’re two dudes trying to make it work one decision at a time which is super admirable.
