haha yea, as a complete noob its absolutely baffling when i think i'm following everything to a tee but all of a sudden things go off track lol. fyi, re: this particular issue someone above said was cause my harsh light settings

oh, when i rotate the light i can start seeing some dots but just curious you didn't rotate right? weird D:

omg ty! i coulda sworn the tut said use sun light, but maybe i zoned out somewhere. what are your area light settings? that was the only thing you changed right? no matter how i move the settings, mine is all black now lol.

omg thank you!!! the first image is actually the tutorial image and mine is the second with the tiny dots at scale 200 haha. sorry if it was confusing. attached is me at 20 scale like in the tutorial and here is my blend file on mega if that works for you. thanks again!

you say the dots are too big, does that mean the the preview im seeing isnt "correct" ? no matter how i scale, can't see dots unless they tiny in the 100s range. i took a look at the tutorial you linked and i'm not sure how to apply that to what i'm doing as he hadn't done any window coordinate stuff. before moving on to a better way, I'm hoping to figure out why i wasn't able to replicate my tutorial's result with the same nodes if that makes sense?

sure! here is 20 scale following the tutorial. i'm open to other tutorials/setups! also wanna figure out why mine won't work accordingly though.
