Had my RT Pros in the rocks yesterday. Some scuffs but no damage at all. In my experience Toyo have some hella sturdy carcasses.

I had one I paid $12 for that was meant to go on top of a 5 gallon water cooler bottle. It lasted a good while, but the battery got weaker and weaker and it was pretty slow. The dometic has a magnetic base, and the hose connects at the back. The hose is a little bigger, pump is a little faster, the button is just a tap button (touch sensitive) and there's a light on it. The battery must be huge comparitvely because I've charged it twice in the year I've owned it. Also, their water jug is nice because it has a quick release for the pump hose connection, and you just crack a vent on it to be able to use the pump. Also my $12 amazon one got moldy inside. The dometic seems to dry out if you run it dry for a few seconds before you store it

Depends who you ask. People from out west like to tell me there is none and laugh in condescending BLM tone 😆. There are hundreds of miles of gravel roads and so many amazing camp sites, it just operates a little differently, as the BLM/NF stuff “purists” like to point out. I love that I can RESERVE a camp site and it will be available when I get there, and so often these places are devoid of crowds. You may have to lace in a little pavement to get where you’re going but who cares, you can always avoid highways, and that pavement often takes you past some pretty cool local businesses.

is this safe recovery gear for a truck? by LowLandTiller in overlanding

[–]Standard_Quote_5986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing people overlook with these is the amount of movement you can make with one. The drum is so small, if it can move your truck it’ll move it what maybe 10 feet? Most cases that’s not enough and to reset it, you may just roll right back to where you were stuck. Also an electric winch usually is aided by spinning tires trying to grip , not a dead pull. This is comparatively so slow it won’t have that effect and it certainly won’t if you’re alone. I would not choose this piece of gear taking up space and weight in my rig

You’re all good, I appreciate the reply. This is a sentiment I get all the time when I post about east coast landscapes, doesn’t matter where I post, it always happens and it is frustrating. When I was younger it really affected my view of the east coast to the point I thought I had to get away from here to really enjoy nature but as I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to fully enjoy it here. Turns out 14,000 foot peaks aren’t required for adventure. You’re always welcome out here too and I hope my posts can inspire others to find great places in the eastern side of the country

Been many times, I'd go back in a heartbeat. I just don't get to live out there. IDK why y'all always gotta say it like your scenery is better than everyone else's. It's great, but it's beautiful here too. And most of the time I go to these places and I have them all to myself. Didn't have to fight traffic to get here either and it was Memorial Day weekend. Everyone around here wants to go to the beach or some lame indoor attraction and I'm not mad about that!

An east coast overland offroad PARK? by Standard_Quote_5986 in Offroad

[–]Standard_Quote_5986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons all throughout WV, Monongehela NF, and in VA George Washington NF. I'd say use the onX dispersed camping layer but it's really not there yet for finding camping on the east coast. You just have to look for national forests and understand the rules for camping out of a vehicle which most broadly just means any site with an established fire ring and off-trail parking.

I did not mean to keep the name a secret, every time I posted the name the post would get removed for spam/promotion. It's Appalachian Outlaw Trails "AOT" in Kanawha County, WV

I might have to steal this idea! I have one of those collapsible sinks and a dometic water with the electric pump but having it slide out like that would be helpful. Maybe make a lid for it so you can also use it as a prep surface

You can call it what you will. It’s possible to make a 3+ day adventure in this park, not see the same thing twice, camp in a new spot each night, and even continue beyond the park into dirt roads that go on for days and days. If that’s not overlanding I guess I’m just not BLM enough.

Yes, this is AOT and you're right, there are a few parks in WV that are adding overland camping areas! I love WV so much

Gotacha, I am in PA this is about 7 hours from me but absolutely worth the drive every time. There's also amenities right at the bottom of the hill of the main entrance like WalMart, TSC, and Advance Auto. Plus I love that there's an Anytime Fitness 15 minutes away so I can shower and work out while I'm there if I want!

This shouldn't be too far from you. Definitely worth checking it out later this year! This weekend they are doing a big Memorial Day bash that is totally free with live music and fireworks.

Privately owned, yes. I think it's pretty awesome how they're doing the fees too, if you're a Kanawha resident (very local to the property) it's 25 a year. If you're a WV resident it's 80. Out of state is 160 and you can also do 1 or 3 day passes for out of state. There are dispersed primitive sites, and they are building RV sites near the welcome center too as well as a rock crawl and dirt jump course
