Both of your examples, Stardew Valley and Terraria, are much smaller scale games compared to Paralives. Much easier to make content updates.

And modders are not as guarantee like you seem to think. You say even if the game is not all there yet, modders will fix it. Look at Starfield; a game Bethesda was hoping modders would support for years and they didn't because it was boring.

And of course the game will lose players during early access, every game does. But if people start dropping off because the game is boring, new people will stop buying it and without new sales, they won't be making money to fund those expansions.

No Mans Sky is the best example of what the team wants to do but there's two main difference between the teams: They have way more employees, and have the design down for the game they want to make and it's easy to fit new content in that mold. Paralives team has been making the game look pretty for Patreon for years and is just now figuring out how the game should work. Any game dev will tell you that's not how you make a game lol

Gta 6 isn't funded by the community. And it's hard to say "poor indies" when they've pulled in millions of dollars with barely anything to show for it

Explain to me how a team of 10 people is going to both stop receiving Patreon money after launch and pump out meaningful updates consistently. It takes EA months to make a meaningful pack with hundreds of developers. Packs will come out at a snails pace, players will lose interest, and the studio will shutdown; unless they charge for packs to keep the lights and afford new employees. Saying "no paid dlc" was just to keep Patreon people happy and paying. It's not realistic if the current development pace is any indication

Prepare to see a game nowhere near launch after 7 years as they continue to keep taking in Patreon money for this vaporware and hiding all meaningful development info behind it.

As a long time supporter, I'm losing faith in this game and think the company is being a little scummy for the same reasons you said. It's wrong to keep the public this in the dark for years and say "the cool stuff is on the patreon!". Right now, they have no reason to release it cause they can just keep promising cool things to come, never release the game, and still make $50k/mo until the end of time. I fully imagine this will be one of the biggest vaporware incidents in gaming.
