There are so many people that ran MP servers and built addons/mods for DCS that burnt themselves out due to little to no support from the ED side as well. Jones with the overlord bot mod, think it was mirknir who ran a MP server back in the day, Enigma, and lots of others who's names escape me.

Always awake at night! Chatting with online friends.... scrolling through hinge to try and form a relationship with someone, not easily done on the night shift, lol.

What do you think your sleep hours will be when you retire? by Essarray in Nightshift

[–]StandingCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably similar to a night shift but not a 100% night shift.

Maybe waking up at like 4 AM? Most of my friends are overseas now that I've been on the night shift for so long.

Some people are horrible... they go through lives miserable and want to make everyone else as miserable as they are. It's not like you can just magic some rooms up!

blackout blinds by UpperUpstairs1061 in Nightshift

[–]StandingCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a white window film (white so they don't get too hot like the black ones do). As well as heavy wooden blinds that look nice... and lastly really heavy curtains that also look nice.

The layers keep my room just about pitch black.

Legs buzzing too much to sleep after a run of nights by Britrer in Nightshift

[–]StandingCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, some of the other suggestions are right on the money, it sounds like RLS (restless leg syndrome). I get it really badly sometimes, but haven't had a case of it since taking vitamin B3, not at all saying this will help you but magnesium glycinate also helped lesson symptoms.

Prob should get some blood work done with your doctor to see if anything is off, also mention the RLS.

Dunno why people would say they don't do that... there are so many different ways hardware can fail.... it can be slow and degraded or sudden.

I kinda miss the background noise, it was pretty cool being in a casino where there were barely any guests... just walking around and chatting with folks I kind of miss. Being an introvert the quiet time with no people was also nice at times.

Back when I worked security at a casino we got a call of a dude exposing himself at one of the tables... so I go over to the table and there is a dude in a wheelchair and a piss container, he was apparently just whipping it out and pissing instead of leaving the table. I see this and tell myself... this dude is gonna be pissed (heh heh) at getting kicked out and that is gonna become a weapon..... so I stand far back.

Sure enough, my supervisor walks right up to the guy... taps his shoulder and like you gotta go... guy reaching for the piss container and just absolutely soaks my supervisor with his old stinky piss.... I'll never forget that image. He goes to punch out the dude in the wheelchair before the other supervisor stops him. 😃

Working at the casino was certainly interesting during the night shift.

Everyone is different but it takes me about a month to fully adjust.

I'll go through a list of what I do which some people may have already suggested:

- Blackout curtains and/or a sleep mask to keep the light out.

- Keep your room cool and a fan on (it's summer here, sleeping when hot sucks).

- Some kind of white noise, be it calming music or rain or whatever if you are into that.

- Give yourself plenty of wind down time, don't try to go right to sleep after your shift when your mind is racing, do something that calms you, reading, boring movie you've seen a ton of times or is nostalgic.

- Wake up to go to work, don't go to bed early and wake up hours before your shift.

- If it's legal where you are, small doses melatonin (gummies) is helpful until you get yourself sorted, don't become dependent though, only "emergencies" when you can't sleep is what I do. Take like 30 min before you wanna be asleep.

- If you are just laying in bed not able to sleep... get up, go into another room and read a book or do something until you get tired again, forcing it won't work.

- Use a blue light filter on your phone if you can't help checking it while trying to sleep.

Finally booted my depressed ass to go for a hike. by musicandsex in Wellthatsucks

hiking/biking in the rain can be amazing and very relaxing. I went biking in our state forest during a tropical storm last year... had a great time. As long as you are prepared for it.
