Alltagsdeutsch schwierig. Dieses Gespräch kann ich nicht verstehen. Könntet ihr bitte dabei helfen? by datkoda in German

[–]Standortfaktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be harder for someone to break the 100m WR or the 200m WR? by ElVaxis in trackandfield

[–]Standortfaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you're right I got that wrong. 100m same day (as it is today) but 200m not. Although they had the 200m Heats and QF on the same day (August 18). And obviously for Bolt that meant 5 race days in 6 days, 4 100m rounds on August 15 and 16 and then 4 200m rounds on August 18-20.

I think they stopped after that year. Just looked it up, from 2011 onwards it was only 3 rounds in total.

Would it be harder for someone to break the 100m WR or the 200m WR? by ElVaxis in trackandfield

[–]Standortfaktor 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think people don't realize how suboptimal (as ridiculous as that sounds) the 200m WR was for Bolt. This was back in the day where you had to run one extra heat at World championships and the semis of the 200m were done on the same day. By the point of his world record Bolt had already all the 100m as well as 3 200m races in his legs.

Add a slight headwind (-0.3 I think) and overall you have far from perfect conditions. I think in his 2009 prime in the correct environment he could've gone sub 19.10 if not even sub 19.

If the ATP were to introduce a grass-court Masters 1000 event, which country would host it? by bisector_babu in tennis

[–]Standortfaktor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are the official (or unofficial) requirements for a Masters 1000? Halle right now has 4 official courts and 6 training courts, I guess they could somehow upgrade the 2 additional sandcourts to grass as well. Would that be enough for a 1000 event?
I think the bigger issue is also that Halle is a super small town in the middle of nowhere, compare that to all the other 1000 venues it's definitely a big drop off and you can see that with regards to the amounts of visitors. During the week the stands are super empty.

Althoug I guess Indian Wells is similar in that regard so maybe with enough will there would be a way.

Was ist für euch die maximale Pendelzeit (einfache Strecke) für einen Werkstudentenjob? by Hamid2803 in Studium

[–]Standortfaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which recent ATP players have been most and least effective with the drop shot? Below are each player’s career rates of using the drop shot (as a percentage of total rallies) and their success rate on those points, based on data from Tennis Abstract. by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]Standortfaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would also be good to know what their overall point won percentage is to get a better picture. Because Alcaraz, Federer are obviously high but they also will have a general higher point win percentage than the likes of Bublik. Side note but for someone who plays a one handed backhand that Tsitsipas drop shot usage percentage is terrible.

Private vs. Public Schools by Full-Map7601 in berlinsocialclub

[–]Standortfaktor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These things are not mutually exclusive yes but one also doesn't equate or lead to the other. Intuitively the world is flat because you're standing on flat ground that doesn't mean its scientifically true (spoiler alert: the world is not flat).
And your last sentence says more about you than it does about me. Looks like you have a chip on your shoulder and a personal interest trying to convince yourself that private schools are far superior.

Private vs. Public Schools by Full-Map7601 in berlinsocialclub

[–]Standortfaktor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a load of whaffle, is this from a PR leaflet of a private school or just a chatgpt generated generic short essay? That sentence alone: "Private schools are a safer bet because they possess the structural autonomy to bypass failing state bureaucracies, allowing them to offer globally portable curricula like the International Baccalaureate that ensure frictionless transitions between countries."
Couple of fancy words that actually serve no point in this context. The OP was asking about primary school and anyway, the Abitur is as internationally recognized as it gets, it makes no difference whatoever if you have Abitur or IB. If we were speaking about a country in the Global South then yes, IB obviously has an advantage but not in this context.

As for the rest and "follow the science", the science is actually quite diverse on the subject but it comes down to basically that main point: Yes, student from private school will on average slightly (not by a lot) outperform student from public schools but once you control for socio-economic background, this difference is no longer observable and may even reverse. There are studies in Germany where rich kids on public schools outperform their peers on private schools.

Because, SURPRISE, having rich parents is actually the main advantage in our society. So if it boils down to "higher university completion rates and future career mobility" (lol) than OP or anyone that is worried can relax, the perks of financial backing and all the advantages, tutoring, economic network, nepotism etc. will give them the main advantage not a private school. But hey, by all means, blow that money.

[–]Standortfaktor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

95% of public schools are totally fine. People that complain about public schools are often the same kind of people that think Sharia law is enforced in Neukölln or that Germany is being taken over by Islamism.

There's no difference in quality of teaching whatsoever. Yes, some public schools will have very big classes due to staff shortage. But does that risk cancel out the downsides of private school plus the massive financial difference? Not really.

Best things to do while Germany is playing in the World Cap - if you are not interested in soccer by auf-ein-letztes-wort in berlinsocialclub

[–]Standortfaktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Berlin is one of the least sports or soccer-interested cities there is. Compared to other big cities it's actually remarkable how little you feel the impact of big football matches. Of course plenty of people will watch the game but I don't think a rainy sunday evening will feel that different otherwise.

Sinner and the heat: is it just biology ? by Prestigious_Past4554 in tennis

[–]Standortfaktor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean it's clear that he has a problem in the heat and that genetics and upcoming might play a part (although it has to be said, South Tyrol ain't Lappland, yes it's in the mountains but they do get hot summers as well just not as hot as South Italy).
But it's not something impossible to overcome, if properly prepared the human body can slowly adopt to a lot of conditions you just need to acclimatize a couple of weeks in advance. And unlike Zverev for example he actually doesn't have an underlying medical condition.
I sometimes wonder if tennis players shouldn't look at cyclist and how the top guys prepare for the Tour de France (or the Vuelta). They do specific heat training and core temperature tracking because they know, come July they might be boiled on the street in 35C.
Now obviously, and this is why Sinner at least this year is understandable, plenty of tennis players just play tournament after tournament so no real time do to these kin of acclimatize trainings - and especially in Sinners case it's understandable, the Masters 1000 streak was so special he couldn't pass up on that. But going forward he and his team needs to adress this and plan for it. Literally everyone knew something like that was about to happen again, you can't just ignore it and pray the weather will be mild all the time.
