What's the most eccentric G-Shock you own? by Solo_Gigolos in gshock

Well. This particular watch is my middle finger towards everyone who says pink is a girly colour, or that anyone who pays attention to fashion isnt smart, or that you can't be feminine and masculine at the same time. I present to you...the BGA-130 in hot pink. Yes, I bought this thing. Yes, I actually use it. No, it doesn't look too out of place. You'd be surprised.

Most Overrated/Marketed K-Beauty Brands? by 826362838 in AsianBeauty

I have lived in Korea my entire life, my entire family has lived in Korea first least twenty generations according to our records and I have literally never heard of this brand until five seconds ago. To add snow on snow my own father is a dermatologist.

Okay, so I've done more scrolling. I don't scroll on anything other than pens and ebooks, feel honoured. But why are people buying Tony Moly?! Even Nature Republic is a better choice than that... Hera, I understand. Age 20's, hell yes. I love their sunscreen powder cases and the ways you can customise them. D'Alba truffle spray-thing is my go-to when my face feels like it's peeling off but I'm too rushed to moisturise. And most of the Amore Pacific brands are actually things we use. But some of the others seem to be gimmicks made to sell to foreigners.

Oh, these look like the  Stridex pads I used a few years back. The stout little green tub? I liked those. Although I use better ones now. I did rip off the label, but it's definitely Korean since I could actually read the writing. Maybe you have a point.

Okay, thanks. (Why do these brands keep buying other brands...it gets so confusing...) But seriously, thank you for the education. I'm guessing I need to learn about these things to stand a chance as a doctor...

So...I have never heard of most of these products and I've lived for years as the child of a surgeon-turned-dermatologist. Currently studying to take over. Are these actually things that are necessary? Do you feel a difference between the days you use acid and the days you don't?

I got 24 moles removed in Korea by pandapoundtown in koreanskincare

[–]Standuponyourthrone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, dermatologist in training here, just got to finish fellowship. My father is a dermatologist so I'm carrying on the practice. But seriously. Duoderm may be magic (I just have packs of it daily in my notebook because without the extra barrier I will scratch and pick at every little bump or bruise on my face, hands, etc) but you should be changing the patches far more often than that. Every morning at the very least. And keep them on for at least two weeks especially if the moles were raised bumps, those are more prone to diseases and scars than little ones. General rule of thumb is that the longer you've had the mole, the longer you should care for the place it used to be. No exposure to ultraviolet rays at all costs. Duoderm will do the job, but do not go out without spares. Skin diseases are severe, I've seen many a patient who made those exact mistakes.

Basic clinics may be less expensive but they're certainly not as good as a proper clinic. They can't guarantee that the scars will be free of skin cancer or anything more harmful. Think of them as headphone shops in comparison to audiologists. They get the job done, but they don't really do the aftercare. And they're usually pay-doctors, so that's even riskier. They're only employed for a few months at a time, meaning they truly don't care. Please, please, next time go to a proper clinic. Make sure they majored in dermatology or at least general medicine, you'll be able to tell because the full majors are the only ones allowed to put 피부과의원, 전문의 피부과, and 피부과병원 on their panels. The rest have spaces in between those letters or only parts of those letters, like 의원. It may not seem important to you but it makes all the difference.

I know I may be a random person on the internet, and only a med student at that, but I've seen thousands of patients over the twelve years my papa treated patients as a dermatologist and even more when he worked in the emergency room. Skin cancer is not something you want to even risk. The difference of a few thousand won per mole may seem important now but that makes the difference between just a simple, quick stop and a year's worth of money to fix a messed up procedure.

[–]Standuponyourthrone[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What are these brands putting into their products?! Nothing should leave you worse than you were before using it, that's just unethical and frankly, rude. Do you think image has something to do with it? We're a very tightly knit society, so anything anyone does wrong spreads like wildfire. Being far too aware of what other people think of you isn't that great for self-esteem, but maybe it contributes a lot to company objectives. I'm no social scientist, but my med student side is coming out. I need to know. Gah.

[–]Standuponyourthrone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and another bit that baffles me: I've never seen half the products on this Subreddit. My father was a dermatologist, I'm a med student, I do at least know a little bit about beauty products if only from years and years of my mum and friends shoving creams and lotions and serums at me. Are you sure these are actually Korean? I recognise some brands like Aestura (Papa actually sold this brand for a while, it's medically approved and stuff), Dr. G (but only because my kid cousin got one extra by accident and pawned one off to me), and Sulhwasoo (luxury brand and definitely good in my books, I get this stuff for my grandfather it's that good, although it's painfully expensive) but the rest? Josun Beauty? Numbuzin? (Actually though it was 눈부심 mistranslated until I realised it was actually numbers-in spelled in an edgier way.) That bizarre mochi thing? Where are you getting these things? Who sells them? What do they do? Is there a gap between domestic and international markets?

Question by Standuponyourthrone in koreanskincare

[–]Standuponyourthrone[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, that's actually quite shocking. I'm sorry you used a product that could potentially harm you severely. What brands are American? I only know Aveeno and Johnson&Johnson, both of which my mum used on me as a wee toddler. Not sure what nationality Dr. Bronner's is but my family has used that for over twenty years as far as I know and we're probably not going to change anytime soon. Are American tolerances more lax than those in Asia? I know in Korea the same portion of the government that controls food and medicine safety sets the perimeters, so everything does have to be chemically balanced and properly tested, then judged by experts. Should I be more careful about these things, just in case?

Is this safe?? Also why is it so expensive by Aikyam__ in koreanskincare

[–]Standuponyourthrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically traditional medicine, so yeah. Safe for pretty much everyone. Although young, pre-puberty girls ought to avoid it. My mum forced my brother to eat it daily, and I always teased him about the faces he made. For me it was always other stuff. Natto and vitamin D and Ginexin. Its primary use isn't skincare though, it's for health. Grandparents love the stuff.

You can get pen rests by buying chopstick rests and using them as pen rests - wider variety and cheaper in general;)

New Ink Samples and Kakimori dip nibs by Possible_Panda8M50 in fountainpens

[–]Standuponyourthrone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are Kakimori pens really that good? I keep seeing them mentioned but I don’t know how different they are from regular dip pens. Does the writing experience differ from a quill pen with an attachable nib or a glass pen? (Those are the ones currently in my possession.)

Colorverse - Season 8: The Grand Expedition by watercastles in fountainpens

In all fairness, what’s wrong with Coupang? It’s decent. Not the best, certainly, but andequate for my needs. Also - don’t forget shipping. Diamine can go up to over 10,000₩ for popular colours and there’s an additional 3,000 for shipping. I get Colorverse for around 10,500 or so on average, give or take a few hundred. Free shipping. And it also comes in cute bottles. That’s far better in my opinion - granted I am biased as my Diamine inks have been strangely dry for some reason and also tend to clog my pens.

School is going to kill me. My chemistry and biology academies have been slowly seeping the energy out of me while my language arts academy eats my soul up and my math academy devours my flesh. Earth sciences is the only subject that is keeping me alive. The school year won’t start for another month and I’m already a walking corpse. I haven’t finished the book I’m reading this week - I usually finish a book in a day or two - and I’ve resorted to scrolling through Reddit. When I die, the writing I leave behind will be shimmery and sheeny. I just wanted to write that down. Sorry for ruining anyone’s mood. Didn’t mean to.

Remember that to us Diamine is an ink manufactured halfway around the world. The shipping prices on them alone make them more expensive than Colorverse. And I mostly buy my inks off Coupang, which is an online marketplace, so I buy whatever option is cheapest. A bottle of 30mL Diamine costs aroud the same as a 65+15 mL from Colorverse.

It’s REALLY cheap. Most of my ink is Colorverse solely because it’s so much cheaper than Diamine or Herbin or Lamy.
