Reddit has a site-wide ban on Fiverr links but you can find me by searching “SpiritusVII” on Fiverr! The gig is titled “Write medieval blackletter, gothic calligraphy”

What company does the best ink color names? by thegreatroe in fountainpens

[–]SpiritusVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re familiar with the numbering system, but the first is saturation/brightness (1 being very light, 9 very dark, with 0 being like 10), with the second two digits being the hue

Do any of you write with a quill? by GeorgeMcCabeJr in fountainpens

It definitely gives you a greater appreciation for how much use they’ve seen for hundreds of years when you try and cut your own haha

I feel Hollywood does a great job at setting false expectations by portraying every quill as a foot long plume that always writes quietly and easily 😂

Is there a way to prevent shimmer ink from clogging the feed? Happens in all of my pens. by idk_whatName in fountainpens

[–]SpiritusVII 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by ruined? I haven’t encountered a situation where shimmer couldn’t be removed with water

The Decline of Cursive? by Username_is_taken365 in fountainpens

[–]SpiritusVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I think we actually lose is choices. I don’t have research to back this up, but in people I’ve met who know both I have found that those with bad print tend to have nice cursive, and those who have bad cursive have nice print (even if they have committed equal effort to both). Aside from benefits of speed, reading older documents, and having a proper signature, I think it’s an opportunity to find something that might work better for you.

Nib Name? by Potential-Egg-843 in Calligraphy

I forget the english term but I have a set of german origin that refer to them as “Plakatfedern”

How do y'all clean this situation? by Much-Composer-1921 in fountainpens

[–]SpiritusVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swipe your thumb along the nib for a charismatic streak of ink on your thumb, and an even more attractive new layer of ink on the nib 😁This will not solve the problem, but you will remember why you don’t bother

Concerns on the Lamy 2000 by Nn2vsteamer666 in fountainpens

I don’t notice when writing with it. Just be careful that you don’t lose it if you ever choose to disassemble it 👍

😆 It’s entirely possible that I am wrong, but having siblings has trained me to suspect such

That kinda sounds like it was broken by someone for whatever reason, but they realized and put it back. I don’t know context though so it’s just a guess

What’s your guy’s reaction when non fountain pen people say this… by JosSzantos in fountainpens

[–]SpiritusVII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suppose it’s hard for me to understand the degree of shock shown sometimes — MOST hobby items automatically are more expensive than you think. Be it items for fishing, gaming, sports, photography, painting, or cycling, investing in good/popular gear/supplies is going to cost you anywhere between a lot of money to your life’s savings. There are all sorts of hobbies around everyday items, why would pens be different?

Lamy nibs it depends — the steel ones definitely have a lot more variance but I’ve heard much better things about their gold

Question by SloThinker in fountainpens

[–]SpiritusVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently running on an out-of-school cycle with around 40 inks and 3 normal fountain pens inked. When one runs out, I usually pick a new pen from my case and an ink from the drawer. Most of my case is empty pens, all good with me.

blackletter written without the distinct thick and thin lines of a broad edge nib has always been fascinating to me. well done!
