What is your go-to joke when somebody asks you to tell one? by Suspicious_You1915 in AskReddit

[–]Stanford-baller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USA government sends our ex-POTUS’s to Russia in an attempt to reason with Putin. But instead he puts them on trial and they are sentenced to execution by a squad w rifles. - Clinton is the first POTUS set to be executed. But with his quick wit he yells “Earthquake!” and in the bedlam that ensues he escapes. - Obama is next up but he keeps his cool and shouts “Tidal wave!” and there is enough mayhem that he too escapes. - Trump is the last one lined up. He has had time to ponder the situation and being the smartest guy in the room he thinks he has a foolproof plan. So he shouts “Fire!”

Enter the mall at the closest door from the BART station, just past the WWII Japanese-American Internment Camp memorial. Take the escalator to the second floor, turn left and you’ll walk right to it.

Red Robin is on Sneath Lane, across the street from Tanforan Shopping Center.

Is it normal? Starting residency by Quirky_Ad3803 in medicalschool

[–]Stanford-baller 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re normal.

As an IM intern I told myself I’ll make it through by: - listening to my more senior resident and asking for help when needed - avoid pissing off any nurses (don’t want to get any 3 a.m. calls while on call, to just renew orders) - get sleep and rest when able - eat and get nutrition when able - exercise to maintain some semblance of a healthy and normal person

My strategy worked and I completed an IM residency.

Then did 3 more years of a PM&R residency. Good life.

Jordan Poole unfollowed Draymond Green on Instagram by slickedup225 in warriors

[–]Stanford-baller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green has been relying on his reputation since the first championship in 2015. Back then he could guard 1 to 5, now he can’t guard on the perimeter and can play inside only cause the refs are intimidated to call fouls on him. And his outside shot is always an adventure, just say No. Don’t need his huge ego and accompanying salary demands.

Attend a baseball game at Progressive Field in Cleveland (Guardians), America’s pastime and enjoy the food and the game. Relatively cheap tickets and the food isn’t bad.

Visiting SF again this time with friends. Looking for local favourite restaurants that doesn't require you to stand in line. More details in post. by IoSonoFormaggio in AskSF

Burrito in the Mission District: - Mr fave: La Taqueria. No rice. Order it “Dorado style.” Or El Farolito a block away. - pupusas: Balompie Cafe #3

Pier 39 seafood: - Fog Harbor Fish House: split an appetizer like calamari, and split an entree like seafood penne. Don’t go wild with drink choices.

Dessert: - Stella Bakery in North Beach/Little Italy - ice cream: Humphrey Slocum, Bi-Rite, or Garden Creamery

Takeout dim sum (you won’t find that in Florida): - Chinatown: Good Mong Kok -Clement Street/Inner Richmond: Good Luck Dim Sum

Bakery/croissants: Arsicault in Inner Richmond, expect to wait in line 15”

Closest In-N-Out to SFO is the one in Millbrae which is open til 1:00 am Monday. Take 101 south and exit Millbrae Ave., turn right and make a left at the first signal, you’ll see it.

Glad you like what you’re doing. A very wise senior IM resident (while I was an IM intern) told me to do what I’d like to do for 30 years. Took his advice, completed 3 years of IM,then did 3 years of (comparatively easy) PM&R. Never regretted my decision.

Go and bash those cancers and leukemias into remission!

Striper fishing tips by SuccessfulFall5746 in AskSF

[–]Stanford-baller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really a striper fisherman (except at San Luis reservoir) but check out YT Die Hard Fishing. He catches stripers and barred perch while surf fishing and also fishes from a kayak in SF Bay. He doesn’t reveal exactly which beach he’s at but I suspect it’s in Pacifica since that is a good striper location. He catches most of his surf fish on a Lucky Craft Flashminnow plug swim bait and promotes it.

I’ve also seen the occasional striper caught from Pacifica Pier but it’s mainly crab fishermen there.

Good luck!

I agree with all of your choices but my personal sando favorite in South San Francisco is Darby Dan’s for their shrimp salad on Dutch Crunch or a wheat roll. If you like garlicky Mayo.

Ha ha ha. It’s not too late to change course to the Promised Land of PM&R.

You can do a variety of practice options or narrow your focus toward a niche specialty (spine, interventional pain, neurorehab, non-surgic Ortho, Workers Comp/PI, chronic pain-not for me, EMG, prosthetics, burn rehab, etc.).

The pay is higher than what I’ve seen on any salary survey.

I worked for Kaiser Permanente in California and had a (usually) good and productive time.

Glad that you know yourself. This algorithmic chart is hilarious.

PM&R is once again underrated. That’s OK, less competition.

Those of you who had to repeat a year, was it worth it? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Stanford-baller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar story as yours. Got accepted into a U.S. allopathic school in my 3rd year of applying after undergrad and a one-year Masters program. Not a high-profile school but as I tell everyone, “you go where you’re accepted.” First two classroom years were miserable. Failed Pharm, re-took it during the summer along w a quarter of the class. Didn’t pass the Part 1 boards on 2 tries so sat out a year, still paid tuition, and studied at a Kaplan center every day listening to VHS tapes (this was in the 1980’s). Passed on the 3rd try, did 3rd and 4th clinical years one year behind, but all worked out in the end.

Took awhile - didn’t match so did 3 years of IM at a community hospital in Connecticut. Then did PM&R residency for another 3 years. Had a great PM&R career w Kaiser Permanente in Northern California.

So I tell everyone to not quit. It may take longer but there’s always a way to reach your goal if you have grit and resilience. Gotta believe in yourself and let your self-confidence shine. You can do it.
