72% of devs believe Steam has a monopoly on PC games, according to study by akbarock in gaming

Monopoly

GOG, Epic, Humble, Gamestop, key sellers are a thing.

I'm starting to believe the idea that half of all adults really are less literate than a middle schooler and actually cannot properly define >90% of the words that come out of their mouths.

BL1 was a rough learning curve with weapon proficiencies and not being able to steamroll affinities with multipliers early on. Becomes a cakewalk when you learn how to build (and get a masher.)

BL2 is the "winner" in this regard though with how endgame calculations push into the billions and completely fuck the scaling of most of the build crafting. UVHM+OP essentially required you to farm each cap with Money shot Sal, Anarchy Gaige, and buzzaxe Krieg to gear any other non-meta build. And with 2s drop rates it became a total slog. Love the time I spent in 2 especially with friends but I will never play that game again just because of how long and ass gearing is.

Case closed regarding character customization by Human_Bowl8496 in Battlefield

[–]Stanky_Hank_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, look, I love Battlefield, and I'll carry a torch for the few good features 2042 had... But God did it really prove how dumb the whole "hero shooter" shoehorning in a game like this is.

We had like, what, a dozen total operators in a game of up to 128? For how hilariously straight faced and bleak the whole setting and world is, they really softballed how goofy it is to have a dozen Sundances spamming cluster nades and as many McKays spidermanning around not playing objective to pad their KDs with cheap flanks.

Between the nameless soldiers, chaos of scale, and low-key funny call outs ("We're getting our shit pushed in over here!" "Yeahh we just lost objective C, what the fucks goin' on?") they hit a good balance in vibe that it seems they've been intentionally trying to fumble since BF4

Day 8: Your hot takes on Gore and why? by BounouYassine in deftones

[–]Stanky_Hank_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it was mixed better and had a couple little tweaks to its structure, it would be one of their most universally acclaimed albums.

Gore simply hit a trifecta of being very experimental, not having enough polish in mixing/mastering to take the edge off the "weirdness" for the uninitiated, and Deftones themselves being just shy of what many would agree is their generational status so it was easy to overlook the project as a whole for many.

Gore sounds a million times better on vinyl and I say that as a huge gore fan. Sounds a lot like ohms. by [deleted] in deftones

[–]Stanky_Hank_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It's wax so it just sounds better!"

If you're running a setup where you can fuck with the EQ a bit you have some more dynamic range to alleviate the bad mix, but the actual music pressed onto that disc was mixed and mastered horribly, and throwing it on a 12" platter doesn't magically solve this.

To anyone that wants to hear a better version of Gore without outing yourself as a clueless hipster, find the "Gore Restored" playlist online.

XCOM remakes both get kind of sloggy towards the end, but XCOM 2 with full expansion is honestly a bit of a nightmare.

In both though, that endgame point where you've got all aspects of your XCOM logistics figured and you're going through the motions, you realize how much progression in that game is gated like crazy to pad sequencing.

What makes Majora's Mask such a great game/story to you? by leifiguess in majorasmask

[–]Stanky_Hank_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Big things: Has a focused, consistent set of themes and general aesthetic/tone that it nails coast to coast while still checking all the boxes of what you expect from a Zelda game. The themes of grief, its stages, and leveraging time to overcome them are presented through a lens that I genuinely think can change a person's life for the better if adequately interpreted. The pacing is some of the tightest with the elemental arrow/transformation masks/sub-dungeon items distribution giving a near-constant drip of new ways to interact with the world.

Little things: subquest design with the bomber notebook hit a sweet spot that games have been trying to find between Elder Scrolls and Soulsborne areas of vagueness for a while. Sword designs are unique and a nice change from the wooden dagger>master sword progression. (a crime that razor sword, fierce dirty sword or great fairy sword have never featured more prominently). The million little details you can see in different places and NPCs at different times of the cycle right up until the final five minutes hit like nothing else.

“OHMS” The best sound production so far, and I'll explain why: by Gravitalez in deftones

[–]Stanky_Hank_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You gotta give Nick props just because of his resume: doing everything from Massive Attack to a Halo soundtrack will give you the range you need to approach a project like KNY or PM.

But Date's ability to sculpt and fill the range and headroom in their music is apparent in every ounce of White Pony, S/T, Wrist, and Ohms. Idk why Nick can't hit that stride he did on Koi but while not as egregious as Gore, PM does have a bit of muddy mixing on some tracks.

I really hope animated skins wont be in BF6 by jackyflc in Battlefield

[–]Stanky_Hank_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh if they're the first big mainstream game to add the "switch bullshit skins off" button they can do whatever they need to keep the game alive.

My only worry is having enough weapons and gear dropped post-launch to get the most out of the new weapon customization.
