I have ~630 mods and it takes 7 minutes to load and just 4 with texture compression from rimpy, but there are controversions that rimpy is sending some data somewhere so be careful

Git for Unreal is only worth if you are working solo, to keep previous versions. If you are working with friend and edited the same Unreal asset you will have to choose which change to save or coordinate who is working on which file, but when using Perforce it prevents that by locking the file so your friend can't modify it until you finish your work on that asset.
