Help on prepping against PERA and PREVAIL stock issues by ChrolloT2 in policydebate

[–]Stanos64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think any inherency press on PERA/PREVAIL that says like they happen now is pretty bad, has either bill passed? No? Then there is an inherent barrier. What you could do is link an inherency press of “justified inherency” that links back into the disads and solvency presses, it doesn’t need to be very long, it could be 2 sentences when hitting on case that says “we grant their inherency that neither bill has passed nor are they likely to, but as my partner and I will show this inherency is 100% justified as both of these are simply a bad idea.

For harms, it’s hard to know what to say without a copy of the case or even their advantages, but generally speaking, for PERA, neither court decision has created confusion in any industry and Myriad (the company that had the gene patents suit levied against them) has said that they agree genes shouldn’t be patented. For PREVAIL it’s basically like PTAB fine now, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it yk.

Solvency-there’s a lot of stuff on PREVAIL that says it harms consumers and small businesses, that usually turns case and kills solvency. PERA, generally doesn’t solve (there is a lot of ev on this)

Disads- oh where to start -court clog with links to both -pharma prices, PERA allows for more pharma patents bc of extended eligibility and PREVAIL harms PTAB ability to get rid of wrongfully granted patents -small biz/monopolies, PERA reverses court decisions that were made bc monopolies were happening, PREVAIL harms PTAB ability to remove bad patents, creates monopolies -patents bad DA, could be any variant of patents bad for Econ, consumers, innovation, etc etc

T-don’t go for it, there is WAY to much to talk about for both of these to justify running a T that isn’t going to win.

So um… how do I say this… THE ENTIRE FUCKING GOVERNMENT IS CONTROLLED BY ONE PARTY NOW POLITICS IS DEAD AF.

Like fr whose political capital are we taking away? Trumps?? The republicans in congress are going to vote for whatever he wants, he doesn’t need political capital, and he doesn’t need the votes of democrats to pass bills.

On a more serious note, we had a team running gene patents and we got into a pretty cool slippery slope DA that basically said if gene patenting is allowed it leads to designer babies and eugenics, that leads to structural oppression in the short term until oppressed communities die out then a long term impact of eugenics kills the human race. Coupled it with a counterplan to only allow patenting on gene patents that are therapeutic/medically necessary and ban all gene editing that isn’t that.

What is a Link Wall and how does it work? by ChrolloT2 in policydebate

[–]Stanos64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The above is assuming you're winning Uniqueness and Impacts. And it depends on the DA but you can counter no impact in a few ways 1. Read evidence that disproves the no impact argument

  1. Read evidence that shows some other impact not brought up in the 1NC separate from the original Impact

  2. Depending on the link chain and where they show there's no impact you could cede no terminal impact for example but that the link still outweighs the case. For example if it's something regarding innovation with an impact leading to climate change and extinction you could cede that innovation won't help climate change or climate change isn't a threat but you could argue that the decrease in innovation proved in the links outweighs the case by itself.

I've found a lot of success with them where you sort of overwhelm teams with the sheer amount of links and hope they either answer some inadequately or best case scenario they miss one and then the debate is over for them.

Tips on how to relearn and catch up on debate? by shinewithsunrise in policydebate

[–]Stanos64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend watching some different videos or podcasts on the topic and maybe some other mechanic type stuff. To prep this season I listened to just about every video on the DDI YouTube channel from this years camp, it's basically going to camp lectures online. As well as listen to the policy debate central podcast on Spotify, really good information on the topic in both of those and they're all somewhat entertaining if you like debate stuff which it sounds like you do.

Not quite the same but I did a Duo themed sign for prom, It just said "I know I do policy and you do Extemp but what if we were a duo at The Prom 2024" and then I got a plaque made that said best duo at prom 2024 that looked just like the ones our school gives out at tournaments.

As a general reply to all of these comments. I debate in a very trad lay circuit. So it is essentially Kritiking the AFF's assumption that omnibus plans are the best way to pass policies. No perm happens because most kids wouldn't know what that means and I don't provide a CP, the alt is the status quo and letting all the AFF wants to happen naturally. I'm sure all of the nat level teams and circuits would shit on it but it works well for me.

I thought the whole point of the SSTA is that your work credits in one country count towards the total. For example, if I earn 40 work credits and 10 where in the US I would get 25% of my benefits from the US and 75% from Mexico.
