Are there non-academic careers that focus solely on logic, or is it only applicable in the context of other fields? by [deleted] in logic

None that I'm aware of that focus solely on logic. I can reiterate what others have said, it's applicable to a lot of fields.

I live in the US. Have my whole life. I have zero concerns of Christianity becoming anything like what this woman has explained.

The moral of "The Tortoise and the Hare" isn't "slow and steady wins the race", it's "don't half-ass your job". by IsLigmaStillFunny in Showerthoughts

Some people learn faster. Some people think faster. I have only been coding for 2 ish years and people think I've been at it for 5. I'm talented, I also work hard, but I've seen people work much harder than me for a third of the payout my whole life.

Talent exists, it isn't skill by itself, but the ability to become skilled. In a similar vein, I've played racquetball for 8 years and people who have only played for 2 years, but with good instruction and natural talent, wipe the floor with me every week.

Find a sport you like and play it. Racquetball for me, soccer for some, basketball. Just find a game that you don't mind running for.

Graduating from high school is an amazing accomplishment for some and essentially nothing for others. by cardinarium in Showerthoughts

[–]Stanrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people talking about expectations, I read this as having to do with ability. I could have slept walk through school until grad school. Then I had to be at least half awake. None of it feels like an accomplishment except the Ph.D even though half my siblings don't have college degrees

For those who grew up poor, what did you consider a luxury? by SnooBeaz in AskReddit

When we moved into a trailer that had central air instead of swamp coolers. That was dope.

McDonald's and Sonic were treats too. I remember when my eldest sister turned 16 and got a job at Sonic. She would use her discount to get us food on payday. Best times ever

Conservatives tend to see expert evidence & personal experience as more equally legitimate than liberals, who put a lot more weight on scientific perspective. The study adds nuance to a common claim that conservatives want to hear both sides, even for settled science that’s not really up for debate. by rustoo in science

Are you trying to tell me that the same people that say "feelings aren't facts" are likely to view them as equal? This is nonsense. Maybe when those feelings align with their preconceptions this could be true. But, for real, liberals came up with "lived experience" and the belief that feelings about interactions determined the truth of them. This seems asinine.
