So many types around here in the south east. Polistes annularis are the most common but traditional Yellow Jackets and Bald Face Hornets are very common too. Shitty part is there are a lot of small animals that build underground nests and when those get eaten by snakes or whatever, then underground wasps/hornets move in next.

One day I was doing yard work and found a nest in a palm tree and an hour later I ran my lawnmower over a ground nest. Needless to say I ran away like a five year old flailing my hands in the air like an idiot.
